When Keita Returns

Activate the ledge :)

Per Rothstein
Sedee Keita (knee) is "progressing well in rehab", but still has no set timetable for return, per Chris Mullin. Keita has yet to play this season. St. John's opens Big East play Saturday at Seton Hall. #SJUBB #shbb.
Only a St Johns player can get injured in a game he didn't play in. C'mon Rothstein, do some leg work.
Rothstein obviously still drinking his christmas egg nog

On the Big East coaches' teleconference, asked where Keita is at right now, Mullin answered, "Queens, New York."
Sounds like he's a longshot for Saturday
Why give a sarcastic answer to a legitimate question? Unnecessary IMO, and a question that should be answered.
Well, if that was the exact phrasing, it was a sloppliy-asked question. And the response a bit humorous.
If the question was: "What is Keita's status for Saturday's game"? And the response was equally flippant--that's something else.
Ok, so maybe come out and say that this isn't a situation like we had last year and when he is ready he will play instead of having fans that support the team and school thinking it is.

But there’s no similarities between the two injuries other than the body part injured. LoVett was a 1 in 1000 case where he just quit and didn’t want to risk further injury.

Post op rehab varies person to person greatly and I doubt Keita is going to be rushed back before he is ready.

For this team to be playing more than 1 ncaa team, and possibly even to get there, we need Keita to contribute imo. He brings interior size and strength and lengthens the rotation and depth by one. Can't rush him back or knee will be a concern all season

Zach B this morning & no surprise re Keita playing v SH;

“All signs point to him being out”

You make a good point, but 3 things: 1) Coaches are asked tons of dumb questions by a media looking for a ‘gotcha!’ moment, and so do not bother to answer a sloppy Q; 2) Why not give Willard ‘some’ pause as he preps for our game; 3) Keita wants to play and is rehabbing—unlike LoVett. As people have said, rehabbing cannot be rushed. Meanwhile, let’s hope we can prevail tomorrow on our quickness and talent—which this year includes the starting 5, plus 1-2 solid bench contributors.

Really think we can win tomorrow w/o Keita. However, not as optimistic against Marquette. They have 4 bigs who play significant minutes (the Hauser brothers, John and the Morrow kid who transferred from Nebraska) - we could really use Keita in that game but looks very doubtful if he is still not practicing. Oh well, hope he can at least play in Gtown game.

In Chapel Hill for the Tarheel - Davidson game at noon tomorrow; will be interested to see Little play.

All I will say is that if we end up losing certain conference games due to lack of an inside presence, which I believe we will if do not get Keita back soon, this is squarely on this staffs shoulders. A) for not bringing another sorely needed big man in here and B) for not getting Roberts enough minutes in OOC games to develop him as quickly as possible. If Roberts was or is that much of a project then they should have went the JUCO or 5th year senior route to bring someone in here who could contribute for exactly this reason, in case of injury etc. it’s just very annoying as a fan.

If he's not fully practicing he's obviously out. Even if he played he'd offer nothing without practicing.

It's annoying that it took him this long to be ready from such a minor procedure. Some guys just don't want it.

Maybe I'm being influenced by LoVett's odd situation from last year, but it really does seem like our players never come back from injuries within the projected time periods.

Since in this case "4-6 weeks" will be at best "7-8 weeks plus", why not just say 1-3 months? Unless Keita is really that outside the norm for this type of injury recovery.

Anyways, doesn't really matter I guess, but all is does is increase expectations and annoy fans and Zach on Twitter lol. It's an unnecessary repetitive narrative every game.

Not sure if this was a rhetorical question but Marcus was last seen leading a team in the top league in Serbia averaging 18 pts and 5 assists per game and shooting over 50% from 3. ;)

Unless you have inside info concerning the injury and the kid's rehab, this post strikes me as a bit harsh and irresponsible.

Maybe it's taking longer because we are using the same rehab techniques they used on Mickey Mantle when he hurt his knee in 1951.

Seton Hall is a tough team and I would not be surprised to lose. But, I think we should win this game with or without Keita. They had a more imposing big man last year and we almost beat them without Ponds and Lovett.

SH traditionally has played 2nd fiddle SJ and, as a result, has always played with a chip on their shoulder which has helped them - especially in a Newark. Roles are somewhat reversed in that we have the chip.
I have only seen SH play 2 or or 3 times this year but I think their only real big that Mamaluke guy shoots threes
Gill is over 7 ft and he seemed like more of a factor in less minutes than Mamuke...(6'10) vs UMD. They've also got Thomson at 6'11 and the other kid at 6'8. They have a definite size advantage as well as depth advantage and they are playing at home.

Our athleticism is at another level however. We can beat them if we speed up the game unless the refs take Clark and Heron out with fouls and my guess is that is exactly what the strategy will be. Slow it down and get it inside as much as possible and get our guys in foul trouble.

Also Cale had a near perfect game vs MD. I'm not sure that wasn't a fluke. We'll see.
