When Keita Returns

Zach B
“Soon, Clark may not have the burden of all his minutes coming at the five. Keita, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right-knee, is inching closer to a return. The hope is he can return to practice next week and possibly be back either for the Big East opener or the following contest against Marquette on New Year’s Day. The 6-foot-9 South Carolina transfer will be needed against the bigger league foes.”

And very importantly 5 more fouls to give. The hope would be that Robert's can improve enough to offer spot minutes that turn into hold down the fort mins when foul trouble takes both clark and keita off the court

"Soon, Clark may not have the burden of all his minutes coming at the five."???????
That would great except for the fact that he hasn't burdened himself at 5 or 4 for that matter. Offensively he plays the 3 and defensively he rarely is in the paint. If there is no Keita in the equation for at least 15 minutes a game the losses may pile up rather quickly in conference play.

Nobody wants to say want you just said, but my guess is plenty of posters are thinking it. The Big East has less strength at the top, but everyone in this league can play. I am concerned that, after a soft schedule, an undersized team is being thrown to the wolves. Winning that first game is key. Marquette will be a tough matchup, as they have size and strength and can shoot. Villanova is getting better in a hurry. It's easier to envision a long losing streak instead of a nice winning streak. After last season, that first win, in a winnable first game, is everything.

We're much bigger than the 4-Guard Nova Final Four team was. That team had 6'4 190 Randy Foye playing PF. They made opponents pay on the other end with 5 guys who could shoot, pass, and dribble.

Clark is big enough to keep any center honest and he can space the floor like no other big man in the conference on the other end.

I think the Hauser brothers have something to say about that.

Exactly. Same with some other teams as well: While Clark's keeping their center honest, who's keeping the PF honest?

And we’d all be happy if he can give us 30 minutes. Chances are he won’t. We need Keita

Hope Keita is at least practicing by now. If not, doubt we'll even see him against Marquette.

For the first 9 games or so I would totally agree with you. Last 3 I thought he did a better job rebounding and playing tougher down low.

Activate the ledge :)

Per Rothstein
Sedee Keita (knee) is "progressing well in rehab", but still has no set timetable for return, per Chris Mullin. Keita has yet to play this season. St. John's opens Big East play Saturday at Seton Hall. #SJUBB #shbb.

Don't believe what you read. Keita is THE SECRET SET that will be unveiled in Big East play! Since he has not played this season no opponent will know how to prepare for him! When we knock off Marquette in a week the secret will be out.

What can we realistically expect from the
‘big fella’ in minutes, pts ,rebounds? Anyone have a clue?
Thanks!

He's played 14 minutes this year: committed 5 fouls, got 4 rebounds, 1 block, took 1 shot scoring no points & had no assists or turnovers. I think too much is being expected of this young man. He will have to cut way back on his fouls or he will not be on the court much.

We went through this last year with Lovett. Now the BS starts with "progressing well" , "No timetable set for his return" etc. I don't expect to see Keita for the rest of the year and that will wind up hurting us during Big East play. You need some type of inside presence. It's ok not to have one against cupcakes in the OOC schedule but Jesse Govan will go for 30 and 15 on us. Theo John of Marquette will wreak havoc on us inside rebounding wise. Every season it's something. Well, just root like hell and hope for the best I guess.

Sedee Keita didn’t practice fully with team yesterday. Still building up strength in knee. Not ruled out for Saturday yet #shbb
