When Keita Returns
Zach B
Sedee Keita didn’t practice fully with team yesterday. Still building up strength in knee. Not ruled out for Saturday yet #shbb
He won't be ruled out for Marquette, Georgetown or Villanova either until they finally put out a press release that he will not be returning this season. ;)

Keita not Lovett. My attitude about Keita is similar to Ivan Drago's about Apollo. Just substitute play for die.If he plays he plays....

Chris Mullin sounds like Sedee Keita will not play against Seton Hall Saturday. "He hasn't practiced with us." #SJUBB
John Fanta

Someone text Ron Linfonte to pick up a knee brace and a jar of Tiger Balm at Dick's Sporting goods on way to Prudential Center...

My guess, he may get a few isolated minutes in 2nd half at best.

On the Big East coaches' teleconference, asked where Keita is at right now, Mullin answered, "Queens, New York."
Sounds like he's a longshot for Saturday

Why give a sarcastic answer to a legitimate question? Unnecessary IMO, and a question that should be answered.

The one game will really need some size is when we face Georgetown with Govan. Hoping he will be ready to go by then. Also hoping that Roberts can prove he’s worthy of a few mins that game to try and contain Govan as best as he can. Even if they can at least limit his offensive rebounds and not give him any easy shots.

It wasn't sarcastic it was the correct answer to the question if that's the way it was asked. I know 72 would have answered the same way and I am never sarcastic.

I don't think we see him ever again. He'll be out for year, blame staff for mismanaging injury, and announce intention to transfer in April.

They originally said four to six weeks. Saturday will be 6 1/2 weeks since the surgery on Nov 14th. I just wouldn't plan on seeing him play again this season. This makes Roberts development all that more important.

Well, if that was the exact phrasing, it was a sloppliy-asked question. And the response a bit humorous.
If the question was: "What is Keita's status for Saturday's game"? And the response was equally flippant--that's something else.

Damn, do St. John's and the Mets share the same doctors?!!?
We seem to suffer similar sports injury fates...

My guess is we see him around the 3rd week of January. Definitely don't want him coming back too early. That's how you lose him for February and March.

That said, we're done with the cupcakes. It will be much harder for Clark to hold down the fort now. Not expecting anything from Roberts. I like him for the future, but he looks far away. Earlington may be in over his head. For this year, Keita is our "ride or die" in the paint.

Not counting on much from him this season. Whatever time he plays will be as a sub to rest a starter.

So you rather a kid play who is not fully recovered and risk permanent damage to please you? Geeez some of you are something else man.

Maybe it was a coach who strategically does not want to give too much info up to the competition.

Per Rothstein
Sedee Keita (knee) is "progressing well in rehab", but still has no set timetable for return, per Chris Mullin. Keita has yet to play this season. St. John's opens Big East play Saturday at Seton Hall. #SJUBB #shbb.
Only a St Johns player can get injured in a game he didn't play in. C'mon Rothstein, do some leg work.

We went through this last year with Lovett. Now the BS starts with "progressing well" , "No timetable set for his return" etc. I don't expect to see Keita for the rest of the year and that will wind up hurting us during Big East play. You need some type of inside presence. It's ok not to have one against cupcakes in the OOC schedule but Jesse Govan will go for 30 and 15 on us. Theo John of Marquette will wreak havoc on us inside rebounding wise. Every season it's something. Well, just root like hell and hope for the best I guess.
Has anyone spoken to Sedee's dad to get his position on coming back this year?

The gratuitous drama really doesn’t do anyone any good. The “4 to 6 weeks” projection was just that — an estimate for returning after arthroscopic surgery to address a sports injury. Some athletes (human beings) are quick healers, some take a little longer than others. And making this into “Lovett, Part 2” is just silly. I understand disappointment over last year’s situation, but carrying it over with PTSD about a student athlete’s return is, again, unnecessarily dramatic.

I am hopeful that he returns quickly and in good health — and I’m confident that he and the staff have that objective as well. In the meantime, let’s root like hell for the student athletes who have been putting it all on the line during what has, to date, been a pretty incredible season. Hope to see it continue Saturday night!!!!

On CNN they were also criticizing Mullin for signing Make St John's great again caps
