When Keita Returns

Taurean has talent but he’s not a good defensive player and only averages 2 rebounds per game. He’s offensively talented when he wants to be for sure. Having Keita back near 100% would be a big help because he’s big and mobile and a solid athlete. Would be a big upgrade for us over Clark who won’t be able to contain Taureans offense...
If SH is Keita’s first game back, I would be surprised if he played more than 10 minutes. Will probably be rusty & not in game shape. In any event it will be good to have him return.
Which is fine because Taurean usually doesn’t play much more than 10 minutes. On top of that he’s foul prone. Gotta drive at him and he’s out of commission early.

2 teams that I can’t stsnd losing to in conference Gtown and Seton Hall and Seton Hall probably surpasses Gtown for me now

Points re Taurean T & hoping to have Keita back by SH game make sense. To me more importantly is who or how SJU defends Powell. Taking the ball out of his hands a bit and forcing him to take difficult shots will be key to success imo. Let the other guys beat us & I like our chances a lot. I know easier said than done. :)

Problem is this team doesn't drive enough. It's either fast-breaks or three's or a combination of the two.

Agree. Powell is by far our biggest problem. We don’t defend guys like Powell well either so not sure what we will do there? Coaches?? It’s your turn...

Playing like Hardy this year.

Combination as we switch plenty. i would recommend Simon as the primary defender. if Powell plays 35min. We use Simon for 25 and when Trimble is subbed in he gets the other 10. Also will depend on foul trouble.
p and when we

Totally agree on Powell being the key. Unlike our team this year, Hall doesn't really have a second go to scorer. Not sure who is best suited to cover him. Both Simon & Shamorie are not always great at closing out on the three point shot which would be fatal with Powell.

Powell will eat Trimble alive, I'd rather switch LJ on him for a few minutes. Agree Simon is primary defender he has to stay out of foul trouble.

if you keep him on him for 10min Trimble will do fine. He is a very good on the ball defender and will be physical enough to prevent him from driving to the basket. Will have to sacrifice some of the weak side ball help if he is covering Powell but should not be a huge issue as SH has not demonstrated a strong low post offensive presence.

I have a built in strong dislike for Ewing from his playing days at GTown. Never warmed up to him as a Knick either. I thought he was going to be the best defensive center since Russell, and maybe better. During the strike year, when the players finally got back on the court, Suny Purchase's season was taken, so the Knicks needed a practice facility to get in game shape that would give them carte blanche. They used the Island Garden in West Hempstead. At the end they asked the Knick players to sign a easel board flip chart, which they eventually framed. All signed except Ewing, who refused. I put it in the basket of the old arrogant Georgetown bred and inspired attitude fostered by John Thompson.

John Thompson has mellowed with age and is now seen as a heralded, greatly respected guy. But in the day, his antics and words were deliberately inflammatory. It created an us vs. the world atmosphere, and some of the outrageous disrespectful things he said would not fly today.

So I guess, yea, Gtown and their smug we're smarter than you fans, would be at the top of the list.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Trimble. Don't think he's quick enough to guard Powell on the outside. And if he tries to body up on him he's just going to foul. They're going to be running a lot of high screens for him so switching may be the issue here.

We should play a box and one against Seton Hall. Put Simon on Powell man to man the entire game and box the other four guys in a zone and make there other guys beat us from the outside. Take the ball out of Powell's hands and if he does drive the other four guys are there in a zone to help with him on the penetration.

LJ is not a good defender. He plays defense with his arms instead of getting there with his feet. He also plays very high.

The obvious choice would be Heron but he is likely needed down low. Simon has been very disappointing on the perimeter this year. He gets beat regularly.

Trimble will at least nullify Powell's strength and can keep him honest laterally. Powell is a bit too savy for him and will draw some fouls.

Hahahaha He's not THAT dominant. He can get a tough 20 and we can still win by 10. They are going to need 75+ to beat us.

Run him off screens all night, foul him hard on some open drives, box him out hard each shot while contacting his shooting arm. Wear him down old school.

Chris Mullin told me post-game Sedee Keita is doing better. Has been on court working out. Still not practicing, but medical reports have been good. #sjubb
