When Keita Returns

Zach B
Sedee Keita did his most work yet in practice today. Chris Mullin says he will be a game-time decision moving forward. #sjubb

Marillac and anyone that co-signed that ridiculous post in this thread owe Keita an apology. Can’t believe what I read on here sometimes

Oh I can unfortunately believe it. Just look at twitter ans see how disgraceful people can be when they don't have to put their name to it.,

When Keita returns i would expect very little in the way of positive contribution. He has barely played in a game situation over the last 2.5 seasons and showed little to get excited about in his brief appearances for SJU.
Expecting little and will be delighted to have my expectations greatly exceeded.

Agree.

With that said, if he's able to play tonight, then give us a few minutes to help others (particularly, Clark) catch a breather.

You don't miss a game like SH with an ouchie on your knee if you can shoot pregame warmups and jump around like you're at a house of pain concert on the sidelines. 5 minutes at center was all we needed and he left his teammates to fend for themselves. Low T has made many of these older posters forget what used to be. 30 years ago this kid would have never even had arthroscopy...he would have just played with pain like everyone else. Walter Payton had his damn finger cut off to return to a game.

Anyone who has ever played a sport after middle school knows there are guys who milk injuries as long as they can.

And one final thought on this matter. Lance Thomas of the Knicks underwent the same procedure as Keita on the same day. He was back practicing less than a month later and he was activated for 8 games before our game with SH. He played over 19 minute his first game back and he plays PF/SF where quickness and lateral movement is needed much more. He is 9 years older than Keita and has much more more wear and tear with hundreds of more games under his belt. They were given the same timetable for a return.

There is more that goes into recovery than most realize. You have to show up for treatment--which is a MAJOR problem for some athletes. You have to rest and rehab the injury as prescribed by your trainer and you have to avoid doing things you shouldn't.

We can talk about "everyone is different" but I don't buy that bs. Sorry. The only thing that would keep a player out after the 4 week period is his or her own comments about the discomfort they feel. That's it.

Again, this kid plays CENTER. We needed him for 5 minutes. He's not asked to play point and shake and bake, plant repeatedly, and move laterally. He is asked to jog up and down the court in straight line and body up for a few minutes at a reduced pace of play so Clark, Figueroa, and Heron don't accumulate fouls and can't play aggressively.

mjmaherjr dislocated his knee first basketball game of my senior year high school cyo league ( Joe Theisman injury disgusting ) ruining my lock of finally Winning the mvp award and I’ve still never fully recovered 30 years later. Knee injuries can be tough. Plus he’s big which can be tougher on the knees

Every injury is different. We do not know what other damage the docs found when they went in.
This kid is not a star and needs to play to prove what he's got.
Obviously, Keita wants to get in there.
Let's be patient and as other have said, it'd be worse if he came back too soon and blew the knee the first game back.

If all Keita provides is the 9 minutes a game he did as a freshman for SC it would be a big help. I see nothing but upside from his return.

GTFOH

Yea, using what athletes did with injuries to try and prop up your argument is an excellent idea.

You know there were still hockey players in the NHL who played without helmets in the 1990s? Just because little marillac rubbed some dirt on his boo boo back in the day doesn’t mean that physical therapy and treating injuries hasn’t changed dramatically and become more precautionary over the years as more and more studies and results have shown it is important.

As for your lance Thomas point. The guy plays for a multi million dollar franchise with some of the finest personal doctors and it’s probably a lot easier to rehab your injury when it’s your actual job. Keita has been required to go to class and actually isn’t a millionaire.

Bottom line is you accused this kid of milking an injury with nothing to back it up other than the fact that you saw him take a couple shots pregame and also stand up and root for his teammates.

You were watching him on the sidelines? So was I. And I saw he was the most engaged player on the bench. What I saw was a passionate kid who would’ve played if he could. I guess you see differently. Fine by me, I’d rather be someone who supports our guys as opposed to the one who just accuses them of being soft because they are recovering from a knee procedure. To each his own

I was actually happy to see him in warmups putting up some shots at SH game. Much better than him being in street clothes.

Agree that he was also the most engaged guy on the bench and in the huddles during time outs. Really surprised to see him in suit again during gametime... very sharp. On flip side, Caraher kind of looked like he rolled out of bed in pajamas... Didn't see Eli Wright at SH game.

Great news, Sju grad 13 - thanks for that. If he can give us 6-8 solid minutes that will be huge. I have a good feeling about tonight's game, but I also had a good feeling about the Hall game. Wish it was the usual 6:30 start, as I can't wait for tipoff!

Well, NCJ we should not forget that despite our struggles in the 2nd half—that game was in our win column until the refs stole it.
But let’s move on and root hard tonight!

I loved the way Mullin eased Keita back into action tonight
Spotted him in and out for a few minutes at a time in each half
Keita will be an important factor for us down the stretch
Glad to see him back on the court and moving well
