Westchester Community College issues-

Not that it matters, but I wonder how he is doing in school. Does he retain his academic eligibility. If the kid really struggles academically, maybe he uses this year to study hard, get decent grades, and become eligible next season. Is that possible?

he never earned the grades to get into school. Even if he paid his way he would have to go back to a JC I would assume.

Why is that? Assuming he was willing to forgo playing ball, and assuming St. John's was willing to accept him with the actual credits he earned, why couldn't he stay enrolled?

Agree how many times does Lavin have to go this road ! Especially this year you would think they would go to extra step to make sures bigs are eligible as we are so thin. Kiss NCAAs goodbye this year.

If he has enough actual credits to be enrolled into the school, why wouldnt he be allowed to play ball? Serious question, im not up to date on st johns academic requirements but would assume it is more lenient if you are an athlete, not the other way around.

Good question. No clue.

You enter college as a freshman with no credits. Let's assume he went to CC for a year and wanted to transfer to a 4 yr college. If he met the academic requirements, he could do so. This is conjecture, since I don't know anything specifically about KT's academics. He could, theoretically, still be eligible to be enrolled at St. John's. The rules regarding athletic eligibility are beyond me.

Why do kids then go to JC for 2 years? Why not go for one year, get your grades up, and then transfer to a 4 year school? Maybe there's a rule which says they have to obtain their Associates degree once they start?

I think the poor kids begging on the street in downtown Lima today were having more fun than St Johns fans. It freaking never ends

Time to go drown my sorrows in some Ceviche and Pisco sours to forget about this debacle.

Thomas was the player I was looking forward to seeing the most this year

I don't get how you can put this one on Lavin. What did you want him to do? Randomly show up at his classes to make sure he was going and passing? As a coach and university, you have to believe that the academic transcripts that you are receiving contain accurate information. If a company commits financial statement fraud, do you blame its investors, saying that they should have done more research on the company?

As far as this season going forward, we all need to relax some. I think our expectations of Keith Thomas may have been a little bit too high. No one knows how his game would have translated to the big stage. Was he going to be the next Marcus Hatten and be an absolute stud, or the next God's Gift and be an average big man? My guess is that he would have been somewhere in between. I think he would have given us about 6-8ppg and about 6-8rebounds per game. Those numbers are easily replaceable.....

With CJ out I'm not on the Dom as a 4 bandwagon like Rothstein and I'm assuming others here.

Let Amar play.

Im with Amar too, I wish we could get some news on Jones, is that too much to ask?

BTW, one positive that comes with Jamal playing the 4 is that when Branch comes in, it almost certainly wont be for Dlo or Rysheed.

Agree on the points, do not agree on the rebounds. And then there's the presence and depth that he adds. While I was not expecting huge things from him, make no mistake that with our thin front line his loss is significant

Exactly.

With our luck homeland security is going to find a problem with his citizenship status

No kidding, but in honor of Nat's flick I'm going out for Peruvian tonight to drown my anger too! Did you guys check out Picca when you were here?

Those who are saying that SJU can't possibly be blamed for this aren't looking at the full situation.
We don't know to what degree Thomas's transcript was tampered with. But in the case of Jamell Walker, one of the kids at Florida A&M, they forged a whole transcript. He took 1 class the whole time he was at WCC, and they said he graduated with an associates degree!

If it's that type of situation with Keith, then you're damn right its the staff's fault. Not the compliance office, but the coaches. You cannot possibly recruit a player for 6+ months, speak to the people around him, talk to his coaches and family, and not know that the guy isn't taking any classes.
I would buy it if the assistant coach changed an F in World Civ to a B, to pass the kid through the clearinghouse. There's no way SJU could know that.
But if he's like Walker, and wasn't taking classes the whole time he was in community college, then the SJU coaches needed to see that, regardless of what they were being told.

And how are the coaches supposed to know this? When they sit down with coaches or administrators at WCC do you think Lavin asks about his transcript and how classes have been going for Thomas and they reply, "Well we've actually been forging all of this and he has never stepped foot in a classroom." Are we supposed to hire PI's for every recruitment to make sure we aren't dealing with crooks like these at every turn?

At some point, you ask him what classes he's taking?! How they are going, and what he wants to major in! etc. If you're recruiting a kid you should be able to tell he's at least enrolled in classes at his school! If he was skipping classes occasionally or getting special help, then I'd agree. It's hard for SJU to know that. But being registered for 1 class his entire two years at WCC??
If that's what happened to Keith, like it did with Walker, then you're damn right the staff at SJU should've had a wiff of what was going on.
You make everything seem so simple

No. We didn't hit any peruvian restaurants out there. Now that Nat's movie premier red carpet stuff is over I literally stuffed my freaking face all day today with my favorite peruvian foods and more importantly ended my ( less sugar ) diet and ate parts of 4 desserts tonight. Got down to 192 pounds for the red carpet last night and fully expect to be back to 205ish by the time I eat myself through the rest of peru, argentina and uruguay

Silly question, but why can't KT enroll as a freshman? Since his transcript is not valid (no actual classes)?

There's a reason why he went to JUCO in the first place. I'd assume his HS grades weren't up to par.
