Welcome David Jones

Hopefully that summer trip to Dominican Republic rumor comes to fruition.
It’s not just a rumor 😃

Will be tremendous for this team to get on the floor together against different teams.

Ironing out some roles, gaining some familiarity will pay huge dividends. We can actually come out of the gates in non conference and have some of the kinks worked out.

No doubt it will be tough to see one of our own especially a key guy, transfer within the BE, but it's been a common event in other major conferences.
Have to realize this is college hoops in the 2020s and continue to add talent, build depth, and reestablish St. John's in the Top Tier of the Big East on a consistent basis.
The thing that I think will help CMA out and that helped him out this off-season is CMA is honest with kids almost to a fault. He tells kids straight up he doesn't care about their recruiting ranking and that when they come in they are going to have to work hard for everything they earn. It works sometimes, but then other times, with kids that are highly rated that want to know they are going to start they don't like this.

But, I think with the NIL and new transfer rules old school coaches like CMA that build trust and a family atmosphere are going to benefit from this because there's a lot of coaches out there that will lie to a kid just to get the commitment, those coaches are going to be the one's losing the most kids to the portal, because now that it's so easy, they don't like any little thing they can easily transfer, so if there's no family bond or trust in the coaching staff, it's 100% chance now the kid is gone.

Maybe instead of late February we’ll have things figured out by mid February :ROFLMAO::)

I sure hope Bing Bong doesn't become an SJU thing. That was Knicks thing for like 15 minutes right?

I get the excitement, but new ones are much better then Champ and Wheeler?
Didn’t say that, last year we had a lot of transfers, this year we don’t have any , should gel earlier. But, time will tell.

I think right now, talent wise, we are probably on a par with last year. The retention of talent is huge and they should all improve. At the moment, I see us as an NIT team, but with the addition of one or two more key players, we should be dancing without a doubt. As you say, time will tell.

I think Jones and Curbelo both have more talent than Wheeler. And if Curbelo is healthy and plays up to the level of his natural ability he can have more of an impact than Champ. JC was frequently great but we still accomplished nothing with him postseason-wise. I think Curbelo could actually lead to wins that would have been losses in past several years.

Agree, L J S A. We've got a different mix of players, lost Champ and Wheeler to Pro-ball ambitions (and wish them the best), but nobody to the transfer portal, two potential All Big East players transferring in, all core guys returning, and 2 solid freshman joining the team.
I think it's key that most of these guys are used to CMA's System and should improve with at least a year under their belts.
Plus, I expect that a Posh / Andre guard combo should wreak havoc and generate elite passing and many open shots.
I'd like a solid 3-pt / outside shooting addition, but it's very possible our current roster can get us into the Top 5 in the B.E. and a dance card.
We shall see.

Curbelo is a big ?. He could take a leap forward from his freshman year and be phenomenal, or he could disappoint. We won't know till he gets on the court. I'm not as convinced as others that his poor play last season was largely a result of his injury. Agree with what you say about Champ, but IMO he's not going to be as easy to replace as many think.

I think Jones can replace most of his scoring, but that still leave Wheeler's Big East production to replace. I want to see another starter-quality portal guy here to fill that gap, but if not, I'm counting a lot on Pinzon. Other posters will have their own starters penciled in though.

Kudos to CMA for retaining all current players and for choosing Van and Shoes.

Also, kudos to Mike Cragg who I suspect is instrumental in developing NIL opportunities for our players. I have to believe we have something comparable in place for Posh to stay and Curbelo and Jones to come.

Not me I have no issues with it at all but I know it will happen sooner or later to SJU. The difference between this one and the UCONN transfer Corey Floyd Jr going to PC is Jones was incredibly productive and was certainly going to be a key piece for DePaul next year. I am not sure how much UCONN is going to miss Floyd. At least immediately.

I will say I do have some sympathy for DePaul and Coach Stubblefield who I think is going to do a good job. That job has been tough and he has worked really hard and to see a top 100 type of kid you recruit and shows in 1 year he can be a key building block for your future and then leaves for a rival conference program, I mean I feel for him a little. I am glad SJU is the beneficiary for selfish reasons but I am not going to lie I feel a little sorry for him.
I don’t feel sorry for Stubblefield. How many skeletons or body bags that you have as a recruiter?

Oth Curbelo and Jones are attack the basket type players. If Wisu doesn’t fall in love with his outside shot, we have three to four players attacking the basket which should open the outside shot. If you remember teams played us on the three point line. Perhaps institute a dribble drive offense aka Calapari.

No one would have traded JC and Wheeler for Jones and Curbelo
Listen since we lost those 2 we did better than most of us thought restocking. But I do think people are confusing relief at not being potentially horrible with actual roster improvement.
