Welcome David Jones

Vincentians are an order that helps folks--I look at the Vincentians at dePaul helping their brethren in Queens at St. John's. David stayed within the Vincentian sphere.

The depth on this team is tremendous, unlike anything we have had here in years. We can withstand any unforeseen injuries and foul trouble. Not knowing how "big" Traore plays, I still think we may need some more size and depth in the front court for the last scholarship player. I hope, and expect, that the scorers are already on this team. I also think that the drivers and slashers will get great opportunities driving to the basket that could more than offset any middling 3-point shooting percentage.

Great pick up. While it does not fill all the needs a great athlete and player that should fit the system well. That being said, I have a problem with poaching players from other Big East teams. What St Johns and Providence has done has set a bad president for the future. Will schools like UConn now offer a top kid from a fellow conference school a special NIL “deal” so they don’t have to face him anymore? We all remember how upset many posters were when Jaquan Sanders (who had not even signed with The Johnnies yet) switched to The Hall. How will everyone feel if another school approaches a Posh level talent on St. John’s lures him off with a financial package? The rules have changed. College basketball doesn’t look like college basketball anymore and the worst is yet to come.
To paraphrase Lincoln Riley, we didn't take Jones from DePaul, we took him from the portal.

Even without one more, we are pretty dang deep and quite a few solid big East starters at multiple spots. There aren’t a lot of huge holes, except maybe swiping from the outside, but I think we have some that can certainly do damage.

Pinzon was only a frosh but I think will end up a good shooter, Storr is a stud who we haven’t talked about. Jones is a multi-level scorer. We even have 2-4 bigs. I expect us to make jump just by adding Curbelo and Jones to a pretty seasoned team, even without Champs. Gonna be fun. Let’s add one shooter.
I agree that MAY happen if things break right. Again when you use terms like depth and talent you are banking on at least some players who are unproven and some who will need to take a pretty sizeable leap. Can that happen? Yes. Will that happen? Some of you like to bank on it as if it will.

My point is if they can get another proven player with the last scholarship then some of the kids like Storr and King and Pinzon lives will be made easier as they will be counted on much less. And that is good all around.

Uber competitive kid. Obviously talented but staff has put an emphasis on finding kids with a competitive edge. King is a great example. Very talented yes but one BE asst told me kid will “rip your heart out for a 50/50 ball. And that’s in practice!”.

Good post. Prior to last season, most posters (myself included) were celebrating the so called depth of the program and that was based on experienced players, not freshman. Realistically, when you look at next years team at this point, while there is depth in the back court, aside from Jones, who can you count on in the front court, most specifically at the 3 and 4 spot. Soriano and Nywe are 5s so that leaves Stanley and Traore aside from Jones at the 3 or 4 position. If coach plays a three guard game with Jones at the 4 thats one thing but if more rebounding is required, Stanley will have to play the four. One would hope Stanley improves ver the summer to be counted on as a "depth " player but that still remains to be seen.

Mr. Rothstein has us ranked behind NOVA, X, UCONN, Providence, MQ, and picked to come in 6th. Can't argue too hard as we have much to prove but it'd be nice to outperform this 'ranking'.
Oops, missed Creighton. Damn, yeah, hope we do better than 7th--tied for 7th last year. Have to say, that'd be a disappointing finish and would likely, once again, miss the Dance.

If I am Anderson facing a key year, I say screw tradition and “moral high ground” nonsense to take a player capable of making this team a potential Dance participant. When things like rules change, adapt or perish seems equation.
He is absolutely right to do this and it is within the rules.

But it is fair to point out it is inevitable that this will happen to SJU ( a key player will be poached by another BE school). Just remember what everyone is saying now when that does happen.

More so than past years, I think it is hard to predict the BE teams and projected finishes. I usually look at 3 tiers, and I am having trouble identifying them given all the turnover and changes in coaches. I am confident Creighton should be the class of the conference, but after that I think all teams will be jockeying for position. With good results in a strong OOC schedule, there could be 7 BE teams in the tournament, but we need to ensure our fate and be in the top 5.

Regarding Rothstein ranking, we definitely need to finish ahead of PC and see no reason we can't beat out UCONN. No way Nova is a top 10 team if Justin Moore is unable to play, hope for his sake he makes it back though.

I'm sure many of you would feel morally better if Jones had gone to UConn or Providence versus coming here!

Not me I have no issues with it at all but I know it will happen sooner or later to SJU. The difference between this one and the UCONN transfer Corey Floyd Jr going to PC is Jones was incredibly productive and was certainly going to be a key piece for DePaul next year. I am not sure how much UCONN is going to miss Floyd. At least immediately.

I will say I do have some sympathy for DePaul and Coach Stubblefield who I think is going to do a good job. That job has been tough and he has worked really hard and to see a top 100 type of kid you recruit and shows in 1 year he can be a key building block for your future and then leaves for a rival conference program, I mean I feel for him a little. I am glad SJU is the beneficiary for selfish reasons but I am not going to lie I feel a little sorry for him.

No doubt it will be tough to see one of our own especially a key guy, transfer within the BE, but it's been a common event in other major conferences.
Have to realize this is college hoops in the 2020s and continue to add talent, build depth, and reestablish St. John's in the Top Tier of the Big East on a consistent basis.
