Welcome David Jones

No one would have traded JC and Wheeler for Jones and Curbelo
Listen since we lost those 2 we did better than most of us thought restocking. But I do think people are confusing relief at not being potentially horrible with actual roster improvement.
If you offered me a two-for one swap, I think I make that deal. I watched us not make the tournament, and JC airball the most important shot of his career. I think I might take a leap into the unknown after that.

Even swap probably gets the GM fired, even though I'm really high on the new guys.

What are you talking about???

Curberlo was a pre-season All-American last year and pre-season first team in the Big 10. Curberlo had a concussion and covid last year, so he had an off year. If he's 100%, there's no doubt he can have as big of an impact here as Champ or even more. You ask most college basketball experts this time last year who they'd rather have Curberlo or Champagnie, and it would probably be a 50/50 vote.

With Jones, he's just an overall better player than Wheeler. And I say that as someone who said I didn't think the staff could find a replacement for Wheeler. Jones is rated by ESPN as the 16th best transfer. I highly doubt if Wheeler announced he was transferring instead of going pro he'd be ranked higher than Jones at #16. Kudos for staff for proving me wrong, I would have bet money they wouldn't be able to bring in 2 top 25 transfers.

So, if Curberlo is healthy, Jones is what he was at DePaul last year, with the staff retuning most of the roster and guys being more comfortable in the system, it's not unreasonable to think the roster improved from last year, time will tell.

Yeah last year you would not have traded JC for either.
I really like Jones and happy with Curbelo but we did not upgrade from last year.
We did upgrade tremendously after losing our two best offensive players however
Last year everyone assumed we would make the tournament and we were picked 4th in conference.
Can we be good, I think so but thought we should have been good last year.
Wild card is the coach.

Great pick up. While it does not fill all the needs a great athlete and player that should fit the system well. That being said, I have a problem with poaching players from other Big East teams. What St Johns and Providence has done has set a bad president for the future. Will schools like UConn now offer a top kid from a fellow conference school a special NIL “deal” so they don’t have to face him anymore? We all remember how upset many posters were when Jaquan Sanders (who had not even signed with The Johnnies yet) switched to The Hall. How will everyone feel if another school approaches a Posh level talent on St. John’s lures him off with a financial package? The rules have changed. College basketball doesn’t look like college basketball anymore and the worst is yet to come.
I don’t have a problem with the intra aspect. Wouldn't like it if we were in his ear before he announced. That is the type of stuff that, when coupled with NIL, can really make college sports ugly.

not saying we tampered.

I’m excited and can’t wait to see Jones crush it! I’m hopeful for next year. Seems like the program is trending in a positive direction. Last years losses by coming up small time and time again is over. These 2 kids have more moxey and will not wilt in crunch time, I bet. And whether or not you agree with me. I believe champ got owned in crunch time by his timidness.

Exactly. Lots of talent here with a subpar coach.

Hopefully they can put it all together because the roster has some very clear flaws that a good coach may be able to mask. MA… I’m not too sure.

Jones' first full year was last year (he had 9 games in 20-21). Consider him a soph this year and he has a lot of upside potential. Compare his 21-22 to the first years of Champ and they are quite compatible and better the Wheels.

I think it's weird that posters don't want to take Jones from DePaul because we wouldn't want it happening to us. It's likely to eventually happen to us regardless, so would we rather have it happen and not have Jones?
One person in particular is doing most of the barking. Many of us know he's full of it.

We Are Nostradamus
Soriano 8 ppg
Should avg double figures but Anderson doesn’t seem to agree
Jones 17 ppg or we will stink
Mathis/Wusu/Storr combine for 18 ppg
Same as Wusu/Mathis/ Vermont last year
My hope is that Storr emerges here and takes most of the mins at the 3
Curbelo 11 ppg
Posh 15 ppg
Backup centers combine for 6 ppg
Pinzon 5 ppg

Wildcard for us to make tournament IMO is Storr
If he can show he can knock down shots and Anderson can see that he can earlier than he identified Wheeler’s abilities....

I don’t understand why anyone is worried about getting someone from a Big East Conference school. This is the way college sports is going. The genie is out of the box without any rules. I don’t know where this is going to take us but this is a bastardized version of professional sports. All the old rules no longer apply. We ABSOLUTELY will lose players to other programs. No way around it. Count on it. Unless their is some secret spigot of cash somewhere? I doubt it…

I'd like to see us use the last schollie either on a seasoned shooter like Bandoumel who's willing to fight Mathis & Pinzon for minutes or a late class of 2022 signee like Klintman (if eligible) or Awaka.

Kudos to CMA for retaining all current players and for choosing Van and Shoes.

Also, kudos to Mike Cragg who I suspect is instrumental in developing NIL opportunities for our players. I have to believe we have something comparable in place for Posh to stay and Curbelo and Jones to come.
I think Storr is gonna be a big one for us as well. Plus we had several new players at this level who will be better next season.

I know you’re talking about 2 for 2 exchange here but it’s a lot more than that. I look at it as both these guys are clearly better than any of the guys we brought in last year. And those guys last year were joining 3 players. And I said then I didn’t think we got better than we were before the max exudes by bringing in the 5 transfers.

This year these 2 are joining a much larger collection of guys who have some semblance of chemistry and experience together. At least enough to have 5 guys with a sub.

So if the question is now at this point would most people take champ or Wheeler to return, or replace them with Curbelo and Jones? You’re probably right, keep those 2 especially considering the player Wheeler became. But if the questions is did we get better than we were last year all things considered? I thinks that’s also a yes. And honestly it’s not that far of a stretch to choose Curbelo and Jones over Champ and Wheeler in any scenario. Especially if you believe guards make a team go.

Again I like both guys especially Jones
My only point for those getting carried away is it is an argument about if the roster is improved and shooting wise it is def worse. So I don’t see how people are saying we are a tournament team when we were not close last year.

NC, that’s an interesting take. I believe we have one scholarship left. The question is does the staff go for the seasoned shooter or a kid like Awaka? From what I’ve read Awaka is more of a big and certainly not a “shooter”. He seems like the EXACT type of kid any Program would love to have.

So the question is do we look to solve next year’s problem OR go for a good kid like Awaka?
