Welcome Andre Curbelo

I watched Curbelo a lot last season, not so much his freshman year when he won 6th man award. I was not at all impressed with his decision making, especially in crucial moments in close games, and his shooting. In fact I was extremely unimpressed. I mentioned that on this board several times during the season. Whether the drop off was because of his injury, a sophomore jinx, not being prepared to run the show, or some combination of factors, is unclear to me. As far as how much his presence will improve this team, he adds depth to the guard position which is nice to have, but his commitment does not help out most glaring needs. All in all, a very good pick up for a variety of reasons, but I'll curb(elo) my enthusiasm about this team till I see who else we pick up, and what Curbelo looks like after he's actual played some games for us.

Much better freshman year all around. My optimism is saying his second year issues are mostly due to his circumstances he had. I saw him play freshman year and he looked much better. And yes we do need more. I am hopeful staff is on it.

I see it as he was required to run the show after Ayo left and then never gaining traction after being hampered by injuries.

Valid points but as someone who has seen him play a lot, I consider this past season an aberration. A clean fresh start with his support system here and I think we see a big turnaround.

Onward and upward.

About the backcourt fit you know Anderson plays 40 minutes of hell so he could just stagger their minutes if shooting becomes an big issue. There was times when Posh went out last year and the ball handling and playmaking cratered. Now with Curbelo he could interchange the whole game and not lose a second of Playmaking. That in itself is worth an extra win or two.

If I recall properly, probably quite a few more than one or two extra wins.

We will be able to take the ball out of Wusu's hands and have the ball in a very capable ball handler's hands. For some reason Anderson liked to play Posh off the ball a lot and this really will cut down on some bad plays. This will allow Wusu to play off the ball which in my opinion, will be better for both the team and Wusu. It also allows us to set up a play for either Curbello or Posh and we can make it look like one of them is going to run the play but switch to the other as the clock will be running down allowing us to make a play using which ever one has the weaker defender on them. Lots of options with 2 point guards. As others have said, don't think of it as 2 pg's, think of it as 2 smart basketball players on the court at the same time.

Reminds me of a guy named Phil “Flip” Pressey from Mizzou. Which coincidentally is Paul Pressey’s youngest son.

Not as explosive, but the flair, eyes in the back of his head, and ability to play at different paces reminds of the younger Pressey for sure, who played about 5-6 years in the NBA at 5’10.

Makes it pretty impressive dont you think?

Still waiting for the better backcourts after you said it was quite a stretch.
Good comeback…😂 But hey if you must have it….. let’s see Creighton, Nova etc. And why you ask well consider this. You have two PGs on the floor who can’t shoot threes? Curbelo last year shot 17% from three and the year before , 16% add Posh at 22 % and you want to anoint them the best back court in the Big East?

I hope they do well together and in Anderson’s full court pressure D should cause some issues but once the other team is in the front court, who is going to guard the 2 guard on the other team? Did you not notice we had problems defending big guards last year and this won’t improve it.

Again I’m not saying this isn’t a good pick up but that depends how they are used and how much their shooting will improve. But in no way can their current liabilities enable anyone to call them the best back court in the conference.

What’s novas starting backcourt game 1?

Creightons two freshmen, who had a good year and are both very promising. One shot 31% from 3 and the other 28%. Real flame throwers. That’s who you are using to say my point is a stretch? I’d take posh over all of them. I have zero concern about him guarding BE 2 guards, the likes of which who are 6’5- 6’6 and capable of beating him inside are not all that common. You making it out to be some sort of hyperbole must be you confusing me with someone else. You’re going to see a lot of people projecting it.

Not sure we have the best backcourt in the Big East (time will tell and certainly some legit question marks regarding Andre based on first two years performance) but we certainly appear to have the deepest backcourt.

Mase......like you, I am excited to see the Posh-Curbelo tandem. I am hoping not to get sucked into the "best backcourt" debate, but I would throw out RJ Cole & Caleb Love, assuming they both return to UNC.

I’m talking about the Big East Johnnyfan. Unless you’re referring to uconn and rj cole? He’s already said he won’t be returning.

Davis and Love from UNC will be on everybody’s short list for best BC in the country.

Oh....got it. Thought you guys were talking nationwide.

I try not to predict anymore. There's always so many surprises.....good and bad. In any event, Posh-Curbelo is real good stuff.
