@Villanova, Wed. Feb. 7, 7p, CBS SN/570AM

I just got home as I had a late starting meeting that ran even later. My wife and kids all texted me the news while I was on the LIRR. Received an e-mail of congratulations from a co-worker who is a Nova fan and grad after telling me two upsets in a row was not in our cards earlier today. He also mentioned that maybe it was not the best night to have invited his dad (St. John’s grad and season ticket holder) over for dinner and to watch the game?.

It will be a late night as I am about to watch it on DVR. Reading this thread will have to wait until the train ride to work in the morning.

As an added bonus, no more of that “no wins n the Big East”, “one of two major conference teams without a conference win” crap.

How’s Pitt doing? I hope they take the collar this year. Enjoy your cut of the cash and irrelevance in the Carolina conference. Traitors!

I think I should say "if we lose by 10 it would a win" before everygame! And, Ron Linfont wears a tie for the rest of the season!:)

Some random delirious thoughts:
Ponds is the player I expected him to be when I watched him play at Jeff. Shame on those who trashed him during his drought. Had he not had that drought, we would still be looking for an NIT bid.

We won with just 6 players. These kids are iron men! Mullin used his rotation perfectly and remembered to forget that Alibegovic was on the bench.

Jay Wright outbitched Mullin with his referee act while Mullin used his Irish charm for a complete 360.;)

Beating the #1 & #4 teams in days, regardless of what record says is an historic achievement. If we didn't lose 4 of the games that were close losses we would be getting votes. Heck, we may get votes with a losing record.

Finally, I think this is the most successful losing season in St. John's history. These two wins should be ingrained in every recruit through the signing period and beyond.

I finally close with two words - Shamorie Ponds

Yes we had some things in our favor tonight, most notably Paschall being out. But, my Lord, our guys played great! What a tribute to the players and staff to hang in amidst the most unbelievable adversity this year!
Shamorie, come back next year and nothing can stop us from NCAA run.
Know you weren’t diminishing our team performance. But, in all fairness We’ve been missing one of th 10 best payers in the whole league for most of the season. Played 6 guys. Nothing in our favor. If Paschall plays, they don’t get the contribution from th freshmen guard.

After a long day at work I fell asleep after halftime - I awoke when I heard my son’s text - and I could only think of a four letter word:
Nice!!!
Go St. John’s
:D

Does anyone still want to move to the MAAC, and blow the program up?

Mullin isn't a game technician yet (and may never be), but he has a pulse of the kids. The kids know Mullin has their backs.

And he knows the type of kids who have a tough make-up. That is a trait you can't see through highlight videos.

Life is worth living again.

I’ll fall asleep with a smile on my face tonight.

Thanks guys - you showed them you can play this game well enough to beat the very best.

You’ll be the talk of the town - and rightfully so.

Going into the season (assuming we had Lovett for the whole year) most of us felt it was an NIT team or possibly an NCAA bubble team. It's been a year of more downs than ups until this past week, but if we finish well NIT is still very much within each; plus two historic victories that will make the year sweet no matter what! Congrats to Chris, team and rest of staff for hanging in there!

Great job to stay out of foul trouble. I love this 6 man rotation and it gives us our best chance at winning. Great win. so pumped. This may sound far fetched but if we win out and take 1 in the BET, that would put us at 19-14 with multiple wins over tournament bound teams. We could certainly be in the NCAA bubble conversation.

Well this has been a fun couple games. That was awesome.
Who would have thought the last two games could have happened. Last 2 games has been like sitting through Texas Chainsaw Massacre and all of a sudden the end of Hoosiers or Rudy started playing.

BTW I counted 75 times Lappas mentioned Booth and Paschal weren't playing.

1. Unreal W. As 72 said, this win coupled with Duke (and back to back) will help the program more than winning 6 or 7 games in the Big East.

2. Fully expect us to lose some of the remaining games. You can only get away with playing 5 guys for so long. No doubt that we lost so many close ones prior to this game is that the kids wear down and there is no margin for error if one or two players has an off game.

3. Biggest bucket of the game was Clark's three point play to extend the lead back to 4 when Nova was making their run. We ran the exact same inbounds play as the prior one in which we got whistled for the 5 second violation. Difference was that Simon should have inbounded the ball the first time to Owens or Ponds and screwed up. Once he got it in the second time, we had a mismatch down the court and Clark exploited after getting blocked a possession or two earlier.

1. The best thing about winning against #1 and #4 is that it sends a positive and reassuring message to J'Raan Brooks, his Mom, and the other current and future St.John's recruits.

2. St.John's is now 12 wins and 13 losses with 6 league games remaining. The NIT is still a possibility.

3. Congratulations to the St.John's players and coaches for not giving up when most would have given up. There is a lot of fight in the kids and they deserve the St.john's community's support for their continued effort and spunk.
