@Villanova, Wed. Feb. 7, 7p, CBS SN/570AM

Three top 8 teams fell today, which I think will be a story all day tomorrow on the various sports programs. Tony Kornheiser likes St. John's, so I expect to hear some kind words on PTI.

We won this game with 6 kids. Can you imagine what we might be able to accomplish with a full team. ;) It has been like this for years and I am hoping (no praying) that we have a full bench next season. Right now on paper we do. Let's keep it that way.
Game-callers regularly brought our attention to Nova's not having Phil Booth available tonight, but (unless I'm mistaken), never noted that LoVett, our second leading scorer, wasn't available to us.

Looking at Nova, they are, of course, an elite team, but their interior defense is suspect, something that could hurt them as the season goes ont. We were at our best when we took the ball to the basket.

I think it's because they know Booth wants to be there. ;)

75 times they said it
OK, OK. Obviously I didn't hear it. (Was it really 75 times? I've got my doubts. But at this point, who the hell cares.)

Thank you God! 18 point underdog, yeh sure. Just think what these kids and Mullin have accomplished. After losing 11
straight games one would expect a team with only 6 players to pretty much give up, yet they have continued to play harder then most of the opposition.
Interesting first half as far as foul calls, only Bronson's two with 8 seconds remaining.
Serzbiak' comment at half time - I challenge anyone to find a better player then Pond's in the country.
And Lappas' comment giving St.John's credit for their defense. When have we ever heard that? Guess Mullin and staff have shown marked improvement. Guess Mullin isn't such a bad coach afterall.
Hopefully, Ponds is coming back next year. Give us one more please.
Our recent play can only impress our recruits.
Once again, great effort and win tonight.

"Hopefully, Ponds is coming back next year"

I expect him to do exactly what Bashir Ahmed did last year so don't be shocked.
Had a horrible day. But this game turned things around for me. But, I’m beginning to think if Ponds keeps playing like he does, which is a good thing, he might be in the NBA next year. Really want him to stick around . W no major defections and Brooks, we can make noise next year. I know a big if, but looking more likely after this week. Beating Duke and Nova back to back really helps negate our awfull Jan.

One of the greatest weeks in the program's history, off an 11 game losing streak when all looked lost. I like to dvr the games and start 45 minutes in, so I can fast forward through commercials. With a few minutes to go my cell was blowing up with calls. I was hoping the game had ended with a win. When I caught up to "live" with the game on the line, I had that sinking feeling of deja vu. Except it was the Duke game deja vu this time. I'm just so happy for the staff and the players, who have taken heat from us posters, who are supposed to be the team's biggest fans and supporters. One thing about college basketball: when you have a guard that has been playing like an all-American, you only need a few other good efforts to compete. Simon and Clark came up big. I have erased those 11 losses from memory.

I am just like.......

Mullin has been telling the players all along to keep working and good things will eventually happen. He put in a solid strategy on offense based on his clear belief that our guys, especially Ponds, Simon and Ahmed, could take their guys off the dribble all night long. Mullin should be given a lot of credit for putting in excellent game plans to beat 2 teams that were huge favorites to win.

Unbelievable win!! So psyched for Chris and the team. For those of you going to the game on Saturday, PLEASE give the team an extended standing ovation! They deserve it! Plus it will mean less time sitting on those comfy benches at Carnesecca!!

I am amazed at the poise shown in the last 2 games when both Duke and Nova made late runs and appeared to have all the momentum. Clark’s 3 point play at the end was a thing of beauty....

A great win for the kids. A great win for Mullin, who for a while now has taken a lot of shots, had a lot of doubters, but who said all along. "We are close." Through it all, he has been calm and I think that quiet came from how well he knows the game that quiet allowed the kids to play scrappy even when we were getting beat. game after game. Mullin isn't a flashy coach. He doesn't jump around. He's not overly emotional. He is just a guy who is a gym rat, and who knows the game. I think with a little time, he will be the guy to take us back to national prominence. He loves the game, he loves his alma mater. He hates to lose. I think the school picked the right guy to head the program.

Zach in the NY Post

There was no wild celebration after the victory. A few players exited the locker room with smiles, but nothing over the top. St. John’s is just getting started.

“We can’t go backwards,” Ponds said. “We have to keep going up and up.”

Amazing the past two games. Ponds is on a mission right now. I've been a Mullin supporter since day 1 and was preaching patience through the tough times. At some point the 11 straight loses started to get to me and I started questioning the staff a little. But I'm willing to eat shit because Mullin is earning his stripes right now. Very impressed something seems to have clicked with the team and they are playing much smarter. They have been playing hard all year but they seem like they have figured out how to win now. Would of been nice if it was a little earlier but what's done is done. Hopefully we can win out and make the NCAA tournament; shoot I'm not doubting these guys anymore.

Wow, awesome to wake up and see texts from my family about the win. A huge congrats to the guys. They haven't quit and deserved the past 2 weeks. Maybe the staff has had an aha breakthrough with them like Dunlap did. Hopefully they can nab a few more and garner NIT consideration.

This season has that feel of 2003, except this low is lower and the high might be greater. We were on the couch for the second time in four days, stunned and elated. So happy for these players and staff. I agree with those posters that emphasize how important this is for our signed recruits, you really don’t stop recruiting your own players anymore, and these wins have to get them excited to ball next year. Great week to be a Johnnie

Amen gang. Great game. I live in Philly and actually went solo as my friend who got the tics, had to bail at the last minute. Just a handful of our St. John’s faithful there, given mid week game and terrible weather. It was great. Credit to the team and staff all around. Great win. Let’s go 4-2 down the stretch!
