@Villanova, Wed. Feb. 7, 7p, CBS SN/570AM

Was tied up tonight and couldn't catch the game. Popped open my laptop to see a "St. John's upsets..." headline and assumed it hadn't refreshed since the Duke game on Saturday. Did the double-take, followed by the spit take. Unreal! Well done, guys...

Two fantastic wins in a row. Post season could be back in play with a .500 overall finish and resume building wins. Best thing about it is could yield a boon in recruiting.

Unbelievable, The Nova excuses already coming out about Booth and Paschalll. Nobody mentions we are missing Lovett who cares though.

Great win!

Clark with the biggest rebound of his life finally stopped the bleeding to seal it. A major difference for this year's team is the "hands" Ponds, Simon, Clark all got good hands. Owens has improved exponentially and now in the good hands category.

(AP) PHILADELPHIA -- St. John's took down another of the nation's elite, and stunned No. 1 Villanova 79-75 on Wednesday night for its second win over a top-five team this week -- and first over the top-ranked team in 33 years.

Shamorie Ponds scored 26 points to spark the Red Storm (12-13, 1-11 Big East) to its first conference win of the season and easily their best week since Chris Mullin was in uniform, not the coach.

Mullin played for St. John's when it beat No. 1 Georgetown 66-65 on Jan. 26, 1985. And he was on the sideline exhorting his players in the final minutes of this shocker.

St. John's beat then-No. 4 Duke Blue Devils 81-77 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, snapping an 11-game losing streak. It was the first win for St. John's since Dec. 20 against Saint Joseph's.

The Wildcats (22-2, 9-2) ended a nine-game winning streak and will surely tumble from the top of the national rankings, where they've spent the last five weeks at No. 1.

The Red Storm used just six players -- and had the one that mattered most in Ponds. Ponds, a 6-foot-1 guard, scored a career-high 37 points against Villanova in early January at Madison Square Garden that led the Red Storm to the brink of an upset. In a season where the Wildcats have routinely roughed up the Big East, St. John's only lost 78-71 and stayed tight until the final 2 minutes.

St. John's can hang with the nation's elite -- it lost by five points to No. 5 Xavier in a streak of three straight games against AP Top 25 teams.

I know this is a pipe dream, but hey dreams are great to have until reality sets in.

Imagine beating #1 Villanova in Philly, in a 5 day period beating #4 in MSG in front of all those recruits, then going to #1 Villanova and everyone saying it's back to reality for SJU. Then going out there and just some how, some way, pulls it off.

That would be freaking insane, like a storybook ending, then beat Marq, and seeing ourselves at 2-11 in the getting votes section (Is that even possible?)

Then yeah, dream is over and back to reality. Oh well, it was nice to dream.

Holy Craps, my dream became reality. in a 5 day span we beat #4 and #1.
What an unbelievable feeling.
Dream me up a million bucks!

No go back and read all your posts from the week before the Duke game and you will feel kind of silly. ?

Silly, For what? Starting 0-11 in the B.E. going 10-13 after a good ooc part of the schedule? Last place team?
I call it like it is, a crappy record. I can't be all rosey when things horrible like that after thinking that they could atleast make the NIT. Guess you're a better man then me.

Hopefully they found their way, and we go on a run now, all ya need is confidence, and skies the limit.

now lets pick of a few more teams and may we can make the NIT with greta wins and the 5th hardest schedule IT CAN BE DONE

Great win. I was saying a Rosary at the end. So nervous and wanting to see us win so badly. Love Ponds. What a heart. Let's savor this. Wow!

Good Post , Boo . Where are the MAAC advocates ? Where are the Mullin detractors ? Where oh Where did they go ? Yes , Paschall and Booth out So , all teams have injuries .

ESPN, with their BPI index, gave us a 2.3% chance to win this game (and I'm sure that number was raised after the Duke game). That puts into perspective how improbable this win was.

Regardless of how the season finishes, this three game stretch (because Xavier was a great game, too) will be one that we will always remember fondly.

Yes, the 11-game losing streak stunk. However, there is no going back on that now. We just have to focus on continuing to be a tough out for teams the rest of the way. 4-2 these last six games is very doable, especially now that the guys have learned what it takes to taste victory.

Last line is ridiculous. After mentioning the games we played against the #'s 1,4, and 5 teams in the nation he characterizes it as 3 games against top 25 teams in the nation. How about 3 games against the top 5 teams in the nation!

With as brutal a month as January was, you still needed to see a dominatrix?
