Transfer Portal Mania

Ian just signed with Adidas so might be some interesting developments with him.
Lots of whispers around the program and the portal..Pautz is SPOT on..the money is there. Difference this year is Rick will have time to scout and fill roster to his scheme.
Have heard 2-3 names all of which would more than satisfy needs and fan base

I see him left completely out of most mocks. Which is why I'll never be a GM I guess.
Yea, sorry I meant “looks” to me (I was not clear) but I guess the GMs disagree, probably for the reasons DK423 points out. But I thought this year he added a new dimension to his game with a bit more of a face up game and ability to knock down the 3 with decent volume.

No worries, I thought you were clear. You'd think a guy who can score on a winning team and has an NBA body would get at least a sniff from scouts. Luckily I like college game better and a guy like him sticking around (for the right enticements) is great for the game.

Speaking of- I do wonder how long the Nike agreement is.

it's been said the staff thought they had Onyenso from Kentucky locked up for the Zuby role and that he was forced to enter the portal by his handlers who wanted him here but he eventually made the final call to stay at UK. He's going to be absolute monster. Missed the first month of the season due to injury but has games of 8 blocks and 10 blocks already this year both against solid SEC teams. Trilly said he's going to the highest bidder.

As has been mentioned already, Trilly did mention us as a potential suitor for Jordan Pope but only that we're likely to get involved and that he'd have a ton of options.

If it works for Shaka Smart long term, I like his approach building continuity through HS. Takes a lot more scouting, communication etc to find right kids who are committed to bigger vision than just 1 year salary. But if it works, it can really build something sustainable.

Donovan Dent from New Mexico is a name that clearly stands out. I’ve only seen him twice but he looks like he could be a guy that could play in the league if he keeps improving. He’s a drive and kick guy that needs to be paired with shooters (CJ Wilcher?). He’d play well with Sim too and he’d be best friends with Brady.

New Mexico has at least three guys that should move on to major programs. It’d nice if Junior could help send him our way as he’s not keeping him and there is plenty of overlap between styles of play.

Sr. helped NJJ go to him last year. Maybe Cruz Davis soon?

I think one thing Rick and staff learned this year, is that offensive production is something where you never know if its gonna translate. Don't get hung up on PPG, instead make sure you are getting players who are all true two way guys. That's the way to win in CBB imo. Offense comes and goes in college, but if we can always put 5 out there who can guard multiple guards/wings, we are going to be able to compete and win. This doesn't mean totally ignore offense 😂 but strike a better balance.

This is why Zuby is such a key piece. We already have a defensive center who can switch onto wings and hold his own. Get players in the other 4 positions that are quick/athletic and tough. One thing this year has taught me, is we need the personnel to match Rick's playstyle. Marillac has hit on this a couple times recently, but we need to be a high flying/up and down team next year.

Plus an old Knick lesson from the Charles Smith acquisition. Do not confuse a scorer with a catch and shoot wing. Those catch and shoot players are a constant threat that stop defenses from collapsing on bigs. Scorers, particularly rhythm shooters, give defenses the time to recover from ball movement before the ball goes up or in to the paint. Not a Knick fan so I forget who coached that Charles Smith team.
