Transfer Portal Mania

For everyone saying we can do better, he doesn't move the needle, Key wouldn't be the portal class' top dog.

If we only bring in three kids that's one thing, but if we have a five-man portal class, I don't think there's any way the worst one is better than Key.

And I promise you guys are going to love him. He's better than he's shown this year, and he actually tries.
I don’t know how many guys are going to jump in the portal now while the season is still going. They can wait until the official opening and do it.

I expect Wilcher and Dunlap to stay. Dunlap leaving for non-basketball reasons worries me a tiny bit. I drank with Tim Doyle a few times back in college and he really didn’t like the atmosphere at St. John’s and wanted a more traditional campus experience.

Zuby I’d expect to stay but will be fielding good offers after what he’s shown. He could be VERY good next year.

Luis has really hurt his NIL chances with the injuries, poor body language, and inconsistent play. He’s played like a freshman. I think he really fits with what Pitino wants and will ultimately stay. If he leaves it will really hurt his draft stock.

I think Taylor stays. I think he loves most of his teammates and will be glad when two seniors move on. He will have a huge leg up at SF over whoever we bring in.

I’d like to see Ayo and Davis stay, but I think it might be wise for Davis to go get some minutes elsewhere. Maybe New Mexico after they get raided by high majors.
Having personally known both athletes and non-athletes ( pre and post dorms) who have left for the more “traditional campus experience”, that concern is always in the back of my mind.

Sense for obvious reasons staff will be $uper invested in portal talent this year. We’ll see how that translates to results and team chemistry, but at least $ seems to be there to compete.

People theorized Ian Jackson, former client of Matt, was going to break his UNC commitment, but to date has not happened. That said, his former client list is hopefully germane to portal quest.

Rest of Octagon agents are rep either Europeans (which I am not going to look into, sorry, lol) or pros.

I watched a bit of VCU-Dayton. Almost everything he does is back to the basket, and almost nothing is face up. He plays a very old school

Just look at this highlight tape:

It's not until the 8 minute mark of the 2nd half that he takes a 3.

Don't get me wrong. He'd be a huge get for us. But I don't think he plays in ways that translates into the way NBA does today
