Transfer Portal Mania

The chatter about a local big landing here has been out there for a while, but I am cautious about the validity.

Booker of MSU as noted seems more realistic, but wonder why he got so little time under stand up guy and solid coach Tom Izzo?

Who is the local Big?

Booker may not be the bigtime established name we’d want in an ideal world but think he’d be a very good pickup. Not playing much at MSU but is playing decent in his limited minutes. Obviously a very high ceiling with him too.

He and Zuby would also complement each other well. While Zuby is the more athletic one, Booker is more of a physical type but can also step out and make shots from the perimeter in pick and pop type action and space the floor to keep the driving lanes open.

Not sure we could do much better.

Latest read is 4 portal guys, 2 guards & 2 interior guys, so why not w
Booker?

Number of portal guys will be fluid depending on circumstances.

The difference makers have to be guards. We don’t need any more wings. We could use a rim protector, sure, but we NEED guards.

We could make the tournament and win games next year with Zuby, Ayo, Maker, Luis, Dunlap, and Traore playing all the minutes at the 4 and 5 if we landed a pair of monster guards.

We show up to every gun fight with a handful of rocks this year.

If you listened to the latest Redstorm Report and what Pitino said. I believe there will only be 5 players from current team returning. Rick mentioned numerous times that this team is not athletic enough to play his style of defense and to run up and down the floor. I think he took the best portal guys he could get even though they didn’t necessarily fit his style. He’s now trying to force them to play that style lack of athleticism be damned. I think he’s doing it because he wants the five kids who will still be here next year fully integrated into his system. Is this the best thing for us as fans probably not but Pitino is thinking beyond this season. I also think Matt A is out there targeting and contacting only kids who fit Pitino’s style this time around. I think we’ll be a much better and cohesive product next season. I think Wilcher, Luis, Taylor, Dunlap and Zuby will be the five who are kept. They fit what he wants to do. Glover, Lefteris and Maker also fit. Pitino’s teams press and they need a rim protector at the back of the press, Maker can do that. We need two quality guards and a 4/5 type player who fit his system from the portal and we’ll be fine.

Agree we need a couple stud guards.... But in BE play... if Zuby is out only Battle tested BIG... don't think we survive many games

Did he mention Taylor once in the interview? The vibe I got was, he wants Luis/Wilcher/Dunlap/Zuby to be back. Luis needs to work on limiting turnovers, Wilcher/Dunlap on conditioning, and Zuby on offensive game (said that in a prior interview).

I'd guess Traore, Ayo and Davis would all be invited back, but with the explicit expectation of not playing much.

Noticed the same. When talking about next year and the future in general he always mentions Luis, Sim, Brady, and Zuby. Never Taylor. I'm assuming he's gone

He talked about what he needs in players in order for his system to be successful. He specifically cited excellent athleticism and defensive effort. He spoke about being able to run the floor. He specifically spoke very highly of Luis, Wilcher and Dunlap. Zuby is a dog , he’s staying and I think that the fast paced style of play fits Taylor’s game well. I think Taylor can flourish with the right type of players around him. Plus, Pitino is big on guys knowing and having experience in his system. If he keeps Wilcher, Luis, Taylor, Dunlap and Zuby he can start all five to begin the season or at least 4 of them and play his system effectively. Otherwise, it’s completely starting all over again and I don’t believe he wants that.

Taylor is a junior…the rest are freshmen or sophs. Perhaps that’s why. Those 4 will also be the prime NIL targets from other programs so Pitino needs to get out in front of that early and often.

I really like Taylor and agree with you, but I think something happened w/ him and the coaching staff that's totally cooled them off of him. No clue what, and I think it's actually cost us in some games.
