Transfer Portal Mania

He talked about what he needs in players in order for his system to be successful. He specifically cited excellent athleticism and defensive effort. He spoke about being able to run the floor. He specifically spoke very highly of Luis, Wilcher and Dunlap. Zuby is a dog , he’s staying and I think that the fast paced style of play fits Taylor’s game well. I think Taylor can flourish with the right type of players around him. Plus, Pitino is big on guys knowing and having experience in his system. If he keeps Wilcher, Luis, Taylor, Dunlap and Zuby he can start all five to begin the season or at least 4 of them and play his system effectively. Otherwise, it’s completely starting all over again and I don’t believe he wants that.
Ayo is as athletic as anyone on the roster too. He will do well in that style with 10 lbs of muscle. He will be able to shut down the 4 and 3 and switch on anyone + press.

I really like Taylor and agree with you, but I think something happened w/ him and the coaching staff that's totally cooled them off of him. No clue what, and I think it's actually cost us in some games.
Agree DK, hopefully it can be worked out. We’ll know by how much Taylor plays the remainder of the season

I’d be very surprised if either Ayo or Cruz return.
I do feel Cruz will leave and probably should to get a bigger opportunity. New Mexico seems like a great fit and they will be raided by high majors in a matter of weeks. As crazy as this era is maybe he comes back after his junior year.

I wouldn’t fault Ayo for leaving but I would really like to keep him to see what he could do on an athletic, open-court team with a stretch 4 body.

Did you watch him a lot at Iona? don't think I seen him more that a couple mins on the floor for us...

Totally agree. Taylor played lots of minutes first half of the year. After that one game where he only played 30 seconds he has rarely gotten any significant pt. It’s clearly something beyond reluctance to shoot because he plays excellent defense which is hard to find on our team.

I watched him a lot in high school when he was playing with Wusu and Posh. What I’ve seen here and the clips from Iona back up my feelings.

He has a very high ceiling on the defensive side of the ball as a 220-225 lb 4/3 that can switch on 2’s and even 5’s. He won’t be totally lost on PGs either.

He’s an open court player that will be very good in the press and will be able to hit a 3, dribble in space, and make a pass.

He’s not a guy you want to slow down and play half court with 50 possessions a game. He’s not a high skill guy either.

Hoggard always struck me as a gamer and senior leader. Numbers aren't eye popping but there should be no doubt he's a Big East starter & leader.

I love the idea of getting former 5 star recruits from big time programs and coaching them up. Booker/Zuby combo would be most athletic and highest upside in the Big East

I really wish we were so loaded with NIL that we could use New Mexico as a farm system -- take their best transferring player and overpay our end-of-bench guys to drop down to them.

Kansas City Star beat reporter was asked this last week:

Four out of the last six McDonald’s All-Americans have transferred from Kansas after one year. If you had to guess, do you think Elmarko is next? —- @joeyygrimes

That’s a great question. It’ll depend on what Jackson’s role will look like next season and whether he’s willing to wait until Dajuan Harris leaves so he could potentially be KU’s point guard of the future. Harris, of course, is poised to come back for another season.

If Jackson is willing to stick around, I think it would be more beneficial to his growth than leaving for an opportunity to perhaps play more minutes elsewhere. We’ve seen KU players take a leap in their third or fourth season (Jalen Wilson, Ochai Agbaji) and end up in the NBA.

Right now, Jackson is learning to make an impact without being the primary ball-handler this season — a skill that’s crucial for his NBA dreams. He’s trying to improve; he was recently seen putting up shots with a student manager after a KU women’s basketball game.

I came back this year after a very long break as a season ticket holder. I tried hard to get more invested in the game. SJU struggles aside I do enjoy going to the games but the sport is completely crap now. You can't keep up with this stuff when each year its an overhaul. It's sad.

Wow he was seen practicing his shooting. I’ve never heard of that before. 🙃😳
