The Tulsa rumors

This rumor seems to be lingering too long for it not to have legs.  The season is over and it is the right time to put something in the press thanking his team and advising about next year if he plans on staying.  I am for resolving this issue quick and moving forward with CMA ort starting our search asap.  This already seems like a normal SJU post season.  Always has to have some sort of drama.

Got to watch the transfer portal to see if we have another mass exodus.

How old is Mark Jackson?

He was involved with Girard because he has a connection with Jimmer Fredette who is Joe’s idol and hometown mentor. This is one situation I can speak personally on.

as can I.

In fairness to CMA, there's no way he/Cragg would make an announcement while the team was still playing and I'm certain they thought we'd make the NIT. It's not yet been a day since the season officially ended, have to cut them a bit of slack.

Nobody like Shaka Smart is coming to SJU. The current coach is considering leaving to take over the mighty Tulsa program. The most optimistic viewpoint would be that SJU could get a guy like Stubblefield and go 4-14 in the Big East next year. And then maybe win seven games the next year. And then leave. If CMA leaves for Tulsa (Tulsa!) what is the pitch to the next possible coach? Any solid up and coming coach has enough faith in themselves to wait for the endless better options out there.

What can the school sell? SJU has the worst workout facilities in the Big East. The worst fanbase in the Big East. Students won't come to games for free, they need to be bribed with food and gifts. And you have to play five home games a year on a neutral :)at best) court.

SJU is now BC, or Northwestern, a program that has no real interest in winning but happens to be in a conference that generates income for the school. They do the bare minimum to run the program (and paying a coach $2 million these days is the bare minimum) but nothing else. The AD has been here four years and he is still writing up a plan to submit to upgrade facilities. Any school serious about a program could do everything, plan, raise funds, and build, in that timeframe.

CMA staying or going is a shrug to me. The very fact that he is considering it shows me that this school has no intention of doing what it takes to build a strong Division one BB program. And I'm not talking about Top 20. I'm talking about over .500 in their own league.

This news is awful, and even if CMA stays it's awful. The very fact that it's on the table is confirmation of the decimation of the program. Tulsa! Imagine if Willard or Cooley were rumored to go to Tulsa? I can't either.

We’ll do you disagree then about the relationship?

I guess to be fair Willard was mentioned with mighty Holy Cross before he crossed over to the good side of the fan base.

If there's no statement put out by the AD or coach today, then I believe that there are legs to this and there is negotiations ongoing.  No other reason not to put it to rest.

If that happens, I hope it is quick, but I assume that means a lot of defections in players and recruits.  Notwithstanding that, I agree with what another poster said, I would not stand in his way and I would waive whatever break-up fee there might be.  I think that this would advance the inevitable and allow us to regroup a year earlier.

of course there will be a lot of defections. They signed up to play a certain system under Anderson and any coach we bring in will not be playing the same system. It is total rebuild time again if CMA leaves. I hope he does not.
We need to hear something today. If not then I agree with the posters who are saying the story has "legs".

Don't forget that when CMA arrived here he was able to recruit back Mullin's players to stay. Including the important ones at the time like Heron and Figueroa. So we never know if there is a new coach who he will be able to retain.

At that time, transfers had to sit out a year.  It was a very different environment than today/

I, for one, believe that the roster severely underperformed its talent level.  As I have said throughout, just a little short in several aspects and a few bounces of the ball or free throws made and we are playing post-season play.  Yeah, yeah, you are what your record says,.  But it is not that easy.

You could say the same thing for a number of schools

If that article is the source of the rumors. I put no stock in it.  Has no more value than rank speculation on this board.

I have no idea now if that article is the source of the rumors, as it is being reported by a number of sources; we do not know if there are other independent sources for the rumor.

In reviewing information on this thread, the one thing that struck me is how large Tulsa's endowment is.  With that endowment, perhaps the school is seeking to raise its profile and hence seek a "big-name" coach like CMA after not having ever been a successful program before.

Wait, I just learned that Shaheen Holloway is from Queens and not NJ.
Game changer.
Let's get him.
So long as he keeps Van.

Short of a complete denial, and very soon, the damage will be done even if CMA returns. I mean, if he's flirting with the Tulsa job then IMO he already has one foot out the door and for all intent and purposes, he's a lame duck coach. A complete denial soon could mitigate the damage, but this already isn't going to bode well with recruiting, both at the high school level and the transfer portal. Other coaches will undoubtedly use this against us.

I meant if he was leaving. Agree with you that were he staying, the statement should have gone out already.
