Hope it isn’t true as I don’t want to lose any of the core players nor the recruits. But, if it is, short of a home run, should include Lavin among those considered.

Lavin?  Whether or not you think he should have been fired the first time, rehiring somebody we previously fired would be a new low even for us.  Can we all agree that if we do hire  a new coach, it should not be somebody who was previously fired?  I’d go further and say we should hire a young, hungry coach with local roots.

If you can name anyone who has or can recruit like him I’m all ears.

For perhaps a number of reasons, Lavin did not recruit all that well his last few years.  I have serious doubts he would be able to recruit at a high level if he were come back again.    And then there is the issue of his in-game coaching.  If Anderson does not return, we need a fresh start!

Plus I think he's a great analyst. I think that's the best place for him to be.

If coach is staying, I would hope he has already reached out to the current players and recruits.  If he has not reached out to them, I would imagine he's leaning toward leaving.

My guess is we will know by the end of tomorrow.

I sincerely hope that CMA promptly issues a statement stating that he is staying at St. John's to completes the rebuild he has undertaken.

If however CMA is attempting to use the Tulsa opening as leverage to renegotiate then I hope that Fr. Shanley and Cragg say "no" and allow him to take the Tulsa job.  If CMA would rather be coaching Tulsa then Cragg should not stand in his way.

If CMA departs then St. John's should undertake an aggressive search and find a solid young head coach with college head coaching experience.  Youth and ambition are good qualities that grey haired posters frequently overlook.

St. John's fans must face reality; the St. John's head coaching position is not the destination job as it once was. If the St. John's position is a 'stepping- stone" position than so be it;  Xavier and Dayton have done well with revolving door coaches.

Yes, we are proving it again this off season that, We Are St. John's.

It gets worse, Father Shanley and Mike Cragg have entered their names in the Transfer Portal !

If there's no statement put out by the AD or coach today, then I believe that there are legs to this and there is negotiations ongoing.  No other reason not to put it to rest.

If that happens, I hope it is quick, but I assume that means a lot of defections in players and recruits.  Notwithstanding that, I agree with what another poster said, I would not stand in his way and I would waive whatever break-up fee there might be.  I think that this would advance the inevitable and allow us to regroup a year earlier.

The longer the silence, the greater the odds something is going on. It would be easy for the university to release a statement and quash the rumors.

The other way to look at it is maybe the university already knows he is leaving but did not want to say anything until after the NIT selections.

I am on the fence. Never a big fan of Anderson, but I do realize he is a solid coach and better man. If home calls, sometimes you have to answer. It is human nature.

But it goes without saying that if Anderson leaves, Cragg must hit on the next hire. I expect a younger head coach this time, who would be excited to make the jump to the Big East.

We will know soon enough.

I wonder how many mid-major coaches will suddenly negotiate a contract extension if CMA does decide to leave, which I am not calling for..

Holloway, Grasso, Young, Macon, Bobby Hurley life raft, Yale coach. This is the list right? Better young options than the last time but no sure fire upgrades. Wouldn’t hate any of them and I could get excited about a few of them but you couldn’t convince me they’ve proven to be better than CMA.

Let's hope he leaves. Then let's go after Pitino. Pay Iona whatever we need to. We need a top coach with a big name to recruit. We win with Pitino!!

If this didnt have legs it would have been denied  Craggs answer to the question was no comment.

Balls are being put away after a disappointing season that all the “coulda, woulda, shouda” feedback won’t change. Time to move on and re-recruit the good guys and add really solid players quickly.

Heard Bill Self say how many teams this year who played transfer game well had very good seasons noting the added experience was a pivotal piece. Not crazy about 23+ guys playing college ball in greater numbers, but it is what it is and you have to play the game. Staff really has to play transfer process successfully this off season to avoid treading water. You can retool much more easily in “free agency” era but you need to add the right, needle moving guys who make sense re fit and current roster.

If Anderson goes, so be it. If not, he and staff should be working immediately to stabilize and better the roster like their jobs depend on it. Even if this Tulsa rumor has no legs, Cragg needs to communicate something loud and clear to avoid stoking panic and giving competitors grist to use to differentiate their program from ours. Silence will only create a vacuum and preclude any degree of stability this program desperately needs.

I hope Anderson stays, since I think he's building something good here for the long haul (although this season was a big disappointment).  I won't be heartbroken if he leaves, however, and would gladly sign up for a proven mid-major coach with a track record of building a program and ties to the area.  To me, that means Shaheen Holloway, King Rice, Jared Grosso, and James Jones (we were a little harsh when he came up he last time, myself included).  I'd be fine with any of them.

The Administration doesn't even have to put out a press release, or even a tweet.  Just shoot a quick text message over to Paultzman, and that will be taken as gospel. :)

Cragg is in over his head.  He's part of the "feet on the desk" legacy that has handcuffed the Johnnies for decades.  Cragg was a "yes" man at Duke...a program that ran itself like a utility...  This job is way different.  He's no communicator.  Just giving Coach Anderson an extension till '26 should tell you something.  There's no way the school can afford to fire him and bring in another coach unless Cragg is fired and his salary goes towards Anderson's replacement.

Van Macon
Roll of the dice, sure. Won't generate huge headlines. Folks will think back to Mahoney/Norm.
But short-term he's the best chance at keeping the roster together. Kids love him.
Long-term, I'm bullish on this guy's career. I think he will be a great HC somewhere.

of course there will be a lot of defections. They signed up to play a certain system under Anderson and any coach we bring in will not be playing the same system. It is total rebuild time again if CMA leaves. I hope he does not.
We need to hear something today. If not then I agree with the posters who are saying the story has "legs".

I agree with you on Cragg.  But regarding Anderson leaving, no doubt he will negotiate something reasonable regarding a buyout. He wants out of here, stat.

Why are we so concerned about keeping a roster together that couldn’t make the NIT and is losing its best player?
