The Tulsa rumors

I checked out the Tulsa forum...

not a lot of chatter on Anderson at all, though I did find it interesting one poster suggested both Paul Pressey and Norm Roberts

Short of a complete denial, and very soon, the damage will be done even if CMA returns. I mean, if he's flirting with the Tulsa job then IMO he already has one foot out the door and for all intent and purposes, he's a lame duck coach. A complete denial soon could mitigate the damage, but this already isn't going to bode well with recruiting, both at the high school level and the transfer portal. Other coaches will undoubtedly use this against us.
100 percent agree, Monte. I'm surprised there hasn't been a full-scale denial from the school or coach first thing this morning. Without that, we have to assume conversations are happening. And if CMA is open to those conversations, it's evident the St. John's job is not his dream job.

I'm not thrilled about the prospect of another coaching change but I've learned not to get too attached to anyone leading our program...

I did a little research on Tulsa too . In addition their over$ 1 Billion Dollar Endowment , they are a very decent school Academically for their size . Less than 4000 Undergrads .  They rank 5th in the Rankings for Petroleum Engineers . 5 th!  So , you can see where the $$$$$ comes from for the Endowment .

Go get Sean Miller and whatever penalties he brings with him. The guy wins wherever he goes.
If we are going to go for guys who throw assistants under the bus, may as well just bring in Pitino.

Pitino would require an exorcism prior to his consideration.  /media/kunena/emoticons/sick.png

And Willard was mentioned with South Florida the year after Whitehead left during the season.  And flirted with Virginia Tech a few years ago to get more money.  That's 3 at 3 different times.  By the way, we don't have the worst facilities in the Big East -- I know Hall fans who tell me our practice facility is first-class and destroys their practice facility.  And we certainly don't have the worst fans.  Smart coming to Marquette was akin to Anderson coming to SJU.  Guys who were proven winners who fell out of a favor at a big football school type job.

Nobody like Shaka Smart is coming to SJU. The current coach is considering leaving to take over the mighty Tulsa program. The most optimistic viewpoint would be that SJU could get a guy like Stubblefield and go 4-14 in the Big East next year. And then maybe win seven games the next year. And then leave. If CMA leaves for Tulsa (Tulsa!) what is the pitch to the next possible coach? Any solid up and coming coach has enough faith in themselves to wait for the endless better options out there.

What can the school sell? SJU has the worst workout facilities in the Big East. The worst fanbase in the Big East. Students won't come to games for free, they need to be bribed with food and gifts. And you have to play five home games a year on a neutral :)at best) court.

SJU is now BC, or Northwestern, a program that has no real interest in winning but happens to be in a conference that generates income for the school. They do the bare minimum to run the program (and paying a coach $2 million these days is the bare minimum) but nothing else. The AD has been here four years and he is still writing up a plan to submit to upgrade facilities. Any school serious about a program could do everything, plan, raise funds, and build, in that timeframe.

CMA staying or going is a shrug to me. The very fact that he is considering it shows me that this school has no intention of doing what it takes to build a strong Division one BB program. And I'm not talking about Top 20. I'm talking about over .500 in their own league.

This news is awful, and even if CMA stays it's awful. The very fact that it's on the table is confirmation of the decimation of the program. Tulsa! Imagine if Willard or Cooley were rumored to go to Tulsa? I can't either.

I guess to be fair Willard was mentioned with mighty Holy Cross before he crossed over to the good side of the fan base.

Iona -a Catholic school- has taken care of that already. He's good to go.

Do we even know if the administration is aware of the rumors?

You would think the sports media, local and national have been calling St. John's for comment. Interesting to hear what information they are getting.

How could they not?
Borzillo , among others addressed it and Cragg was asked about it.

Going with an alternate take with my rose colored glasses on:

The Tulsa opening isn't even worth it... CMA is not even wasting his thumbs' time to tweet about it! What's he doing instead? Glad you asked- He is busy making sure Gardener has all his HS credits complete before he drops his vintage lightning rod picture as he reclassifies and commits to the Red Storm! He is making sure Zendon is spending as much time (as legally allowed) with Soriano / Nywie / Drissa and Stanley so we have one of the more formidable frontcourts in the BE next yr! He is making sure Posh and Wheeler get invites to the Steph Curry and Lebron camps this summer (they still do those?) so they are ready to dominate from Day 1. He is calling Saban to get Wusu a try-out at Strong Safety (lets be honest...). CMA is doing what he does- working!

Ok- back to your regular scheduled rumor mill

Is it too much work to dash out a quick press release thanking the fans for their support this season and re-confirming your commitment to SJU?

Maybe it would be better to be "on pot" (for medicinal purposes for those who can't get their Ambien) until this "blows" over.
