After having read through this thread, I would like to offer my perspective on how this transfer process works. When I was involved in AAU basketball and a situation came up where a young man wanted to transfer, I would call 4 or 5 coaches and let them know. The coaches would say that they would keep an eye on the young man and get back to me after the season. This "did not" mean that they were truly interested in the young man, only that as a way of keeping a good relationship that they would keep an eye on him. Now once the word was out, one of the coaches I spoke to may have heard from a coach at a different school that he is looking for a player like the one I have and he would let me know. I would then call that coach and see what could be worked out.
What is believe happened in this situation is that the player's AAU or high school coach reached out to the schools listed and informed them of his desire to transfer. The schools will reply that they will look into the situation. Then in today's Digital world, they will list these schools on Twitter, Instagram or wherever. This also alerts other schools to the situation and the player ends up with offers from schools not listed.
All I am saying is let's not get too carried away with this situation.
Appreciate info on process Panther. Could be wrong, but I sense Matt really likes this kid. We'll see. In any event, let's upset Butler this week.

As much as I don't like the suggestions of a player leaving, I assume the staff loves the 50% three-point shooting for the season, on 6.7 attempts per game. That's a pretty good shooter. Not much in the way of assists, at only 2 per game.
. I think it's pretty even amongst the two, but again, this all just an assumption. We don't benefit from McMurray replacing Lovett but at least we don't take as big a step back.
I get the feeling it's one replacement for two guards, so it needs to be as impactful a transfer as possible.
Know Matt has excelled in transfer game and staff will do appropriate due diligence. Also recognize it just doesn't work out at a particular school for a kid sometimes.
But any concern over a departure after suspension + only 3 games this year, when he played 35 mpg last year and this, taking 14-17 shots per night? Apologies if this was already discussed.
Seems like kid can clearly score, but last year was very much at high-volume/low-efficiency rates, and sample size far too small this year to know if the increased 3% is real. Very few free throw attempts suggests a lot done on the perimeter, which might explain the lower efficiency (although that's not necessarily a good thing), but don't know if that's the case.
Don't know enough about him to draw any conclusions one way or other, and as roster construction conversations suggest maybe we just think we'll need kids that can play. But seems at least a little curious we're after another smaller guard that is more of a volume scorer than true point (at least to date).
The thing this staff should get more time and patience with than anything is building a sustainable year over year roster given what they were left with. Just hope we really are moving towards that model. Things change quickly with college kids and you have to adjust, and doing so quickly and effectively via all options available is a strength. But given Sima we are now at even scholarship-wise with Brown, and seems like we could potentially have 2-3 more scholarships available after the season without a tremendous amount in the way of options at present.
Seems unlikely we'll make major strides with 2017 class, although perhaps if we have a change in circumstances that could make us more attractive to to certain kids that didn't previously see us as a real option. Otherwise it will be 5th year/transfer/JUCO route. Not necessarily a bad thing, but think you need good mix of quality HS kids with a few elite like Ponds to really make program consistent. Guess either way 2018 will be year we'll know where we really are.

I concur with your desire for achieving a "sustainable year to year roster" model. Instability has obviously plagued this program far too often. You are right, 2018 should give us a clearer picture of that targeted foundation.
Good god, I leave the interwebs for a few days and find 80 posts on this.
So Lovett is leaving and we're getting this chucker/malcontent?
Per Zach B, staying a few days
South Florida transfer Jahmal mcmurray visits St John's tomorrow through Friday, per source. Talented guard. #sjubb
I get the feeling your upcoming trip and internet ban is going to be good for you. If half these rumors are true about our players transferring. The one thing I'd think even with our record not being where we would like it is if you are a guard who wants to score this is a great destination. It would be nuts to transfer and sit when you can get all the playing time you want especially if you don't intend on playing 4 years
That being said nothing pretty much surprises me anymore with our program
