South Fl Transfer

MCMurray is from sunrise Christian school in kansas. Same program as Marvin Clark. And the other kid they are looking at. There is the connection. Obviously Matt A has made a pretty good relationship with the program

how is everyone listing Simon or Clark as starters ahead of what we have now? I hope they do but looking at their stats from Zona and Mich St i don't see stat stuffers. Why would any of our starters transfer unless we were bringing in clear cut studs knocking them out. Even in Sima situation I wouldn't of left.

Clark yes, Simon part of intriguing guard rotation. Clark is a much more complete player than Yakwe and stronger. Not sure if Yakwe and his handler happy with the prospect. It's not like he's a 5 star competing for the starting job against another 5 star like at Kentucky. Some kids should focus on improving as players and deflating their egos.

If they aggressively pursue McMurray, a PG as noted with baggage, that speaks volumes re roster expectations IMO.

That's what the staff gets pd for anticipation ,planning ahead etc. Really could not care who leaves, for if that player does he did not want to play for us and is better he moves on. Thus the chance for bringing in a better player for the future of the program

Paultz the last thing that's needed is another small, score first guard. If one of the small guys leave they should try and replace him with a guy in the 6'3"-6'6" range that can play guard not small forward. Rim protection, while important, does not compensate for the absence of length on the perimeter. And at a time in basketball where defenders can't put their hands on the guys they're guarding length becomes critical. It's one of the reasons Justin Simon is important but they need another guard that brings length to the table.

Totally agree John!

Agree John, but if Lovett should depart who plays PG?

I wouldn't be surprised if Mussini leaves after this season. I would if either Ponds or Lovett left. I think this is jus Matt A. keeping all his irons in the fire. How many times did Lavin and Co, get caught short by players leaving or recruits going elsewhere with nothing to fall back on. That will never happen with MattA. He's doing what he should be doing, lining up players just in case. If one does leave , he's got someone else already lined up ready to come in. It's what a good recruiter does.

Can't imagine this kid would come here to be a backup pg. If we really are seriously recruiting him, one would think the staff is pitching guaranteed major minutes. Unless the staff is not candid with recruits this would suggest the staff thinks that somebody is leaving. Otherwise, why recruit another guard for next year, let alone one who clearly will only be happy with a major role next year.

Luther Muhammad has size ( 6'4), and is a fantastic offensive weapon. Long story short, he's a more athletic and taller version of shamorie ponds.

More like a shorter more refined Bashir Ahmed.

The staff wouldn't be pursuing this guy to replace Mussini. It would be a starter they're worried is leaving.
And my completely uninformed opinion suggests that can only be Lovett.

Won't know for awhile. And I wouldn't lose sleep over it anyway. Simon will be the starting PG next year.

They weren't "stat stuffers" on ncaa tourney teams, we're far from that level.

I think if we loose Mussini , but have Lovett,Ponds ,Simon , and Ellison ,there is no need for him. Makes you think it is to replace either Ponds or Lovett. The loss of any of those 2 bothers me a lot. My gut tells me Lovett even though my head tells me it doesn't make sense for him to leave. We are St. John's. The question I have is if Lovett stays , you think Simon would start over him,?

I admittedly have no idea how this stuff works. But assuming it is lovett who may not back I can't imagine what he or his camp would possibly be saying at this point to put the staff on alert. I mean Lovett is getting unlimited playing time and taking plenty of shots so that can't be a concern. Expressing unhappiness would only serve to jeapordize his current playing time which is against his interest. I don't get it.

And the last 72 hours sums up being an SJU fan. From basking in the glow of a total beat down of Syracuse to now worrying we're going to lose one of our starting guards. Never can count on more than a few days of bliss.

Simon is a wing, but agree with your initial thought. They will go all out on McMurray.

Some guys sometimes want to get paid no matter the locale. We'll see.

The only conclusion I can come up w is that Lovett thinks he won't make the NBA, Since transferring doesn't make sense. He may not be a fan of school and may want to start making money in Europe. I hope my theory is wrong and he stays. But the reality of the situation is the staff is not pursuing this kid for no reason.(didn't see Paultzmans previous post).
