So Lovett is leaving and we're getting this chucker/malcontent?

I understand that many of the kids playing college basketball, including perhaps Mr. LoVett, face financial challenges while seeing non players around them getting rich, however my fear is that if LoVett bolts college for the glitter of the NBA that as a 6 footer his fate will end up similar to Omar Cook and God Shamgod.

Granted that Omar has had a long career playing in Spain, Italy, Lithuania and Montenegro but I would be surprised if he did not see himself in the NBA after being drafted by Orlando in the 2001 NBA draft.

Everyone wants to play in the NBA. But some of these kids would just be satisfied to get paid to play basketball. Anywhere. Some kids also don't like school. Also there is no guarantee that staying in school gets you any closer to the NBA. Some kids might just want to start the journey sooner and get paid while they are trying to get where they want to go.
Honestly no one on here cares about Lovett's future, they just want him to stay in school so ST John's basketball will be better. I understand that and feel the same way, I am just honest about it.

I think most posters are fine with guys leaving the team as long as they get to dictate the timing and terms. But seriously, Lovett is an extreme long shot to ever play in the NBA so why not start earning money in Europe if hoops is his future. And to the later poster about differences twixt Lovett and Ponds, primarily Ponds is 18 Lovett about to turn 21.

perhaps the interest in McMurray is related to Walker since McMurray attended same high school as Derrick Walker. We'd have 3 kids from Kansas City

I would soften that sentiment a bit. I agree that most here, myself included, care more about the program than an individual kid's career path. But most of us root for the kids to do well after they leave -- even if they transfer. For example, I find myself looking at the UNLV box scores after every game to see how Christian Jones did.

If Lovett leaves, more posts of "Good luck" or "He is stupid and we are better off w/o him"?
And again, I want him to stay because we are better with him. Not going to get mad him for leaving though. And honestly as good as he is and as much as I like him, 2.
or 3 more years here is not helping him make the NBA. If he ever finds his way into the league it will probably be the overseas, NBDL route that gets him there
Is your analysis any different for Ponds? If so, I'm curious to hear the difference between he and Lovett in terms of their path to the NBA.

Rumor is Lovett, which is why I used him.
Lovett leaving actually helps Ponds individually. If Ponds can show he is a point guard over the next 3 seasons he might have a more direct route to the pros. Still way too small but I think he is more skilled than Lovett.

If the question is would there would be same animosity toward Ponds leaving as there would for Lovett? SLIGHTLY LESS. Lovett's nomadic ways would make it a little worse for him.

My question related to your statement that "2 or 3 more years here is not helping [Lovett] make the NBA. If he ever finds his way into the league it will probably be the overseas, NBDL route that gets him there."

I'm wondering whether the analysis would be any different for Ponds. I think you've answered that by suggesting that Ponds may have more skill than Lovett. I think Ponds is terrific, but am not sure there is anything inherent in his game that suggests he would have a better chance of developing in college that Lovett. Curious what others think.

Excellent point and one that I did not consider.

Yes the age thing and I think Ponds is a better athlete and even with funny release a better shooter. Odds are long with him too based on size but if he can show he can play the point...who knows. But as Austour pointed out because he is younger probably not in as big a hurry,

Yes we are sju you are the last honest man. Do you ever get tired of patting yourself on the back? Think I can answer my own question with an emphatic NO! ;)

When I self gratify myself I generally like to start lower and opposite direction of my back

Oh no. Not again. In one week, you have now made reference to yourself naked, defecating, and now this. I may have to invent a neuralyzer like the one used in the Men in Black movies to erase my memory before I read another WASJU post. However, so I'm not off topic, I recently visited USF. Didn't see the potential transfer anywhere on campus. Not impressed with the place overall. UCF much nicer.

It could be that it is Winter break on a 1,000 acre campus or he knew you were on campus looking for young black men. :p

I am a fun guy

Any player that leaves college for the glitter of the NBA should understand that playing professional basketball in Europe or Asia, depending upon the league is not always glamorous nor lucrative.

Below is a portion of an article regarding former Providence star God Shamgod who left college after his sophomore year believing he would have a career in the NBS.

.... "It is not surprising to find God philosophical, serene and more than a little wise. It is, however, unexpected to find him in a setting that many would consider hell—a rundown hotel in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi, China. But that is where God Shammgod could be found this past fall and winter, playing in the China Basketball Association.

Taiyuan is gray, non-descript, sprawling and home to much heavy industry. Routinely rated as one of the world’s most polluted cities, a gray haze hangs over everything and no one visits there unless they have to. It is also home to the second-worst team in the China Basketball Association, the Shanxi Yujun.

In short, the team is a dysfunctional mess....... Shamm lives and breathes hoops, spending most of his time in China watching downloaded NBA games or clips, or talking on the phone to old friends like Chauncey Billups. They have remained tight since playing in the ’95 McDonald’s All-American Game alongside the likes of Kevin Garnett, Stephon Marbury, Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Tractor Traylor. “We considered ourselves the best high school class ever and vowed to remain friends forever,” Shamm says. “And most of us have...... He spends hours sitting in his hotel room IMing and video chatting with his family and friends.....".

McMurray visit going well. A shot of him in the City;

Maybe the staff heard the rumor and now they are just trying to make Lovett jealous? Maybe a nice mix tape with a bunch of old Journey songs is next on the list for the staff.
