South Fl Transfer

FYI; ASU has already signed this four star PG for next season.

Again, stating the obvious, keeping Marcus & Ponds together with evolving Ellison and talented Simon far outweighs adding McMurray to fill a void. Clearly Marcus & Ponds have great chemiststry & that can't be replicated easily.

Didn't Hurley have some highly regarded ASU freshman recently announce he was transferring?

Yes

Spent time today at work with Todd Galas. He is USF basketball radio broadcaster. I asked about MCMurray. He said he was a real nice kid, good in the locker room. Said he can flat out score.

I asked about the 6 game suspension. He basically said kid made "a stupid mistake." He didn't want too elaborate. But reiterated that how good of a kid he is and "kids make mistakes".

Seems the kid is transferring cause of the direction of the program. Not cause of suspension....... and Antigua was fired today. Also noted he is real close with his HS coach in Kansas.

Sorry but for me there is no sense.

I would only see it if we will lose two backcourt players, not one. Simon will be available on next season.

Is this glass half full scenario out of the question? Simon will be utilized at small forward next year and LoVett intends to stay one more year leaving 80 minutes of playing time for the three small guards.

Will this team ever be able to develop any chemistry? So many moving parts, I guess it's all part of the rebuild but we need 4-5 really talented guys to hang around for 3-4 years.

(Am assuming Jahmal McMurray arriving = Lovett leaving.)

Maybe everyone stays and Matt is selling the Villanova model that won a bunch of games a while back.

Ponds is a great rebounder for his size, so he can fill the Foye role while Lovett and McMurray fire away. I can dream, right?

Sense Matt will land him. We'll see.

Uh oh!
You and I have been agreeing a lot. The problem w landing him is you have to figure Lovett is gone.

As the Springsteen song says: "One step up and two steps back"

Very underrated song by The Boss

Some fans didn't but I liked Tunnel of Love album

Little Stevie and I lived in the same building for quite a few years. I'm going back 30 years. Stevie a real good guy. Bruce would come and visit him frequently. Also a very nice and down to earth guy.

All we need then is a Pinckston or Ochefu up front and we'll be all set.

I'm in the minority on this but I believe McMurray would be a great addition for this team. First of all, reading the inside info from another poster that he is actually a nice kid and the suspension was out of character is the most important thing. In addition to that, on the court I believe he can help in a number of ways:

1. He averages over 15 per game for his career so you know he can play and put the ball in the basket at the D1 level. I know his shooting percentage isn't great but that's what happens when your the best player on a bad team. South Florida's RPI has been north of 200 the past 2 seasons.
2. Also, I don't believe it necessarily means LoVett is gone. LoVett is a true point guard, McMurray is a small shooting guard. If we felt LoVett was gone wouldn't Matt A and the staff go after a true point guard? I believe if anyones leaves after the McMurray addition it will be Mussini.
3. Therefore, if my opinion holds true I believe LoVett, Ponds, and McMurray compliment each other greatly. When LoVett, Ponds, or McMurray need a breather it won't be such a drop off in play. At all times we can have 2 of these players on the court, which is huge to keep the pressure on other teams.
4. Also, the McMurray addition could help us get Derrick Walker, who is becoming a must get player at this point because of his frame. Also helping keep the pipeline goin at Sunrise Christian.

I don't dispute that McMurray would be a great addition. But losing Lovett would be a great subtraction.

Your scenario above would be a dream come true, I hope it does!

If one of the top guards leaves this would be a must get, if it's Ellison or Mussini then it's a nice to have because even with Ellison's improvement it would be nice if whichever of those two is left was just the 5th guard.

Can't see Ellison performing as a 5th guard. Carries himself like he is best guy on the team
