South Fl Transfer

Fading perhaps

The optimist in me wants to deduce that this is a positive sign that Marcus will be back next year. The realist in me tells me not to jump to any sort of conclusion. The constant inner turmoil of a diehard St. Johns fan.

If the kid is going the Juco route as Paultz' avatar suggests, I think it's safe to assume that there is an issue with his grades.
I'm thinking the avi means we are going the JC route w a big.

It is not like it will be a top BE team but is it too much to ask to see Lovett, Ponds, Ahmed, Owens and Ellison joined by Clark, Simon and maybe a decent JUCO big and or the real Yakwe escapes from wherever he has been kept?
Honestly would settle for Lovett, Ponds and Owens staying at this point.

South Florida transfer Jahmal McMurray tells me that he will enroll in junior college for the rest of the year & then pick a school in June.

It is very unlikely St. John's will pursue Jahmal McMurray now that he is headed to junior college, I'm told. #sjubb

Does that mean he has to sit all next year if he transfers to a D1 school? How many years would that leave him with?

Another sign that we are anticipating being down a guard next year? Interested in McMurray if he's eligible second semester next year, not so if he can't play until 18-19 when we'll have more time to address the need?

Believe if he completes this semester as Juco in good stead, could be eligible for D1 play January 2018 with a season and a half left at that level.

If that's the case it will enable the staff to see what happens w Lovett at the end of the season. If Lovett leaves we will still have a shot at McMurray.

Sense they have moved on, too "iffy" of a situation.

Hopefully Lovett will stay and his thread is moot.

i don't get all the LoVett leaving talk. He seems happy at games, on his videos and tweets. Damn, he already sat a year and paid his dues. Full steam ahead now.

FWIW I think it's whether he wants to keep playing in college or go play for pay somewhere. Don't think he's unhappy, maybe just a little anxious to move on, hopefully not.

That plus some kids don't like school.

I'm not familiar with what Marcus parents do career wise, but Lovett has shown a high interest in trying to make money oversees. I really think he loves being here, but if he needs to make money for his family he's going to leave.

To whom has he expressed this high interest? I'm not doubting you, I'm just wondering. I know there has been a lot of speculation on this thread, but I'm curious if anybody has heard (second-hand or otherwise) that Lovett has expressed the desire to leave early to play overseas.

Its like that Richard Gere gerbil thing. You hear a rumor enough you start to figure it must be true.

His profile on the team roster page says he's majoring in liberal studies...

which almost sounds hard, like extra philosphy courses...

His teammates must be keeping it a secret about sport management.

John Rothstein's article here about McMurray oddly leaves out mention of St. John's considering he did come on campus for visit

http://www.fanragsports.com/news/south-florida-transfer-jahmal-mcmurray-will-enroll-juco/

Prior to his decision to enroll in junior college, he was reported or rumored to be interested in Arizona State, Baylor, Texas, New Mexico State, Western Kentucky and North Carolina Wilmington.

was it an interest in SJU or a couple of good meals in NYC with family?
