@Seton Hall, Sat., Dec. 31, Noon, FS-1

So much for shaking up the starting lineup!
It has ZERO effect when one of the replacements is Wusu and you bring in the two guys you sat within a couple of minutes.

Today three players were particularly bad on both ends of the court.......Posh, Wusu and Mathis. Combined they shot 21% from the floor and 11% from the three. Their defense was just as bad. Productivity wise only Jones and Soriano were making a difference in the offense.

I've come to the conclusion that this team is not as deep as some thought and that CMA has few options off the bench for improving the offense.
Defense, once thought to be a coaching skill CMA specialized in, has been a complete disappointment.
It has been 40 minutes of hellacious defense alright but not in a good way.
Today that defense made Richmond and Dawes look like All Americans.

Both our point guards have reverted to whining during the game and getting easily distracted. That kills team play and is a reason our offense is struggling. All it takes is two or three players checking out mentally during a game to make the other team look better than they actually are.
Today those players were responsible for a SH 32 point turnaround. Today those players played embarrassing basketball and perhaps they will learn from it or they will further regress and cause their team to lose confidence in them to point where it becomes total street ball.
We pay coaches a few million dollars a year to prevent that from happening and restore the team concept.

Finally, this is not a post-season team because the defects are too great to overcome without a turnover in players. Thank God for the transfer market.

Agree, Marks been out of the loop too long. He has no star power as todays kids may not even know him. And the game has changed significantly since he’s been involved in college hoops.
Even if by some miracle he were decent, we'd need to bring Steve Kerr in to get the team over the hump.

Truly dumbfounding how CMA goes from coach of the year 2 seasons ago to this. How could that makeshift first season lineup play together better than this experienced group? I have no answers. How can Posh look so lost? I can't blame it all on Curbelo. Can anyone offer some thoughts other than the CMA can't coach?
It's a poorly constructed roster. Despite being a rag tag group that team had Figueroa and Heron, both of whom are better than anybody on this roster. That roster had guys that could shoot the 3 and therefore not allow teams to just pack the paint. That opened up lanes for guys like Greg Williams and Nick Rutherford who certainly had their limitations but were able to generate some points when playing with guys that can shoot. Our current team has no shooters and therefore is easy to defend.

We are equally poor defending the drive, the 3 point shot, and the isolation in the paint. Plus, CMA's past teams did turn teams over in bunches and go on huge runs. Not now. Is this team just not equipped for that, or have the coaches in the conference just figured it out?

I'm mystified by Posh this year. He's not even remotely what he's been. Complains about every foul, can barely make a layup, his midrange game is non existent. Careless TO's and his defense doesn't stand out, lots of bad fouls. It's not good, to say the least.

Here’s my take. First of all in Anderson’s COY year, the league was the worst it had been in decades. Secondly, what the staff did best was to keep the team healthy. All the other teams had extended COVID breaks while the Johnnies never stoped and were always healthy. In our big win against Nova, they were on an extended COVID break prior to that game and were exhausted. You may recall in the second Nova game when they were healthy, they swamped us. Similar games against other opponents as well but even finishing in 4th place in BE didn’t get the team in the Dance.

In terms of Posh, the worst thing that Anderson could have done is take the reigns of the team away from him or even shared with Curbelo. Clearly the change has had an effect on him.

What many overlook is that the team actually underperformed significantly last year. I believe that last year was Anderson’s most talented team. No one on this years team comes close to Champ and his contributions. The reason, as seen this year, why the team has not been more successful is that all the players have to create their own scoring opportunities. You would be challenged to even find a pick and roll throughout the game much less a set play. The other consistently has been the horrendous defense played.

Have to think with on-ball menaces like Posh and Curbelo as well as versatile athletic wings like Mathis, Wusu and Jones that we'd be able to turn teams over more but we aren't even in the top 100 in defensive turnover rate in the country and that's with all the cupcakes we've played the first two months of the season

I'm going with a combination but it doesn't seem that many coaches are afraid to play this style of game!

An absolute embarrassment.
The word fundamentals does not exist in our program's vocabulary
The worst part is that I have to face my friends tonight
I know that I am going to get a rash of $hit from them!!
Wishing all of you a Healthy and Happy New Year

Very easy to defend a team that can't shoot the 3.
