@Seton Hall, Sat., Dec. 31, Noon, FS-1

Our starting backcourt of Wusu, Posh, Mathis shot 1-9 from 3pts. Bad 3 pt shot led to runouts on other end. This on the staff recruiting another pg in Curbelo instead of going get 2 knockdown shooters.

Already was ugly. It got uglier. 3 straight BE games where one coach (not ours) adjusted and the game completely changed.

How many more games like this before we see holes in the walls behind Mase from punches in his rapid reactions ? :)

I'm mystified by Posh this year. He's not even remotely what he's been. Complains about every foul, can barely make a layup, his midrange game is non existent. Careless TO's and his defense doesn't stand out, lots of bad fouls. It's not good, to say the least.
Very easy to defend a team that can't shoot the 3.

“I didn't do a good job of getting our guys prepared,” Anderson remarked. “I take responsibility for today.” 'Nuff said.
This the response you get when the coach knows it's getting hot

Curbelo has good skills but his passes are dumb, dumb, and dumb.
He's got good dribbling skills. That's about it. His passing, shooting and decision making leave a lot to be desired. His defense is erratic at best. He's small and not particularly strong, so he can easily get muscled snd posted down low. IMO at best he's a 6th man(that we're he did his best work while at Illinois) who can give a team a burst of energy when he comes in. He's not a starting point guard on a good team.

The truly disheartening thing is it isn’t just a case of not executing well, which can turn around. . we’re not even trying execute things that are worth executing…as a result, we are totally dependent on having a hot hand

Yep. What's even more disheartening is that when a team that can't shoot gets hot, all the opposing team needs to do is let them continue to shoot, since the team that can't shoot eventually regresses to the mean.

I agree. The only coach I ever openly criticized and wanted gone was Jarvis. I will critique a coach's in-game decisions, but grant him the right to make those decisions. Anderson seems to have made many bad coaching decisions this season, but as long as he is coach I will support him and the team. Having said that they are completely unwatchable. That is the fault of the coach and the players.
This sums up how I feel...
Pitino would be so perfect.

does anyone know how many years Anderson has on his contract, and whether the brain trust at St. John’s negotiated a reverse buyout to allow StJ’s to terminate early ?

Through 2026-27 season.

I have absolutely zero knowledge of his contract(none of us do since that's been kept a closely held secret), but something tells me that CMA's agent, knowing full well he had SJU over a barrel, worked out a deal that was very favorable to CMA and very unfavorable to SJU.

I agree at this point - unwatchable I was looking forward to going to those MSG games Nova Friday night other games are on the weekend at noon The garden is going to be empty

It's a poorly constructed roster. Despite being a rag tag group that team had Figueroa and Heron, both of whom are better than anybody on this roster. That roster had guys that could shoot the 3 and therefore not allow teams to just pack the paint. That opened up lanes for guys like Greg Williams and Nick Rutherford who certainly had their limitations but were able to generate some points when playing with guys that can shoot. Our current team has no shooters and therefore is easy to defend.
Heron didn’t play half the year and he was ineffective the other half

How don't you recruit one shooter in this day and age of basketball!

Inappropriate content
It is painfully obvious that this team is poorly constructed and, other than David Jones, Anderson did not bring in the comparative talent we lost.
First, Anderson made the team smaller. Posh and Curbelo are barely 6 footers. Montez Mathis is a 6'4 guard and David Jones is 6'6.
Last season we had Champagnie at 6'8, Wheeler at 6'9 and Soriano at 6'11 as our front line. Mathis, Wusu who are both 6'4 were bench players. Stef Smith was solid as the two guard and fit better in the backcourt with Posh.
Heck, we even had Tareq Coburn off the bench at 6'5 who was a better shooter than anyone we have now coming off the bench.
In short, we the fans were duped into thinking the additions of Storr, Curbelo and Jones were an improvement.
The fans have been awarded with smaller seats and beer.
In the end it's the same shit, different year with mediocre basketball, an old hot box of a gym, an uninvolved student fan base and more questions rather than answers about the future of the program.
I am hopeful Father Shanley can make a difference but he may be too focused on turning St. John's into another woke university than a traditional basketball power.
