Seton Hall Game

Just got back from the game. I haven't had time to read all the posts with regard to the game but here's my take.

The refs calling a lot of ticky tack fouls in the beginning of game took away our aggressiveness and affected our defense. The last 2min and 30sec of the first half when we went from a 4 pt lead to a 5 pt deficit was the second blow and D-Lo missing those two foul shots on the technical was the final blow. Sometimes it's just not your day. That's how I feel about this game.

All I can say is, if we win the next two games at home against Butler and Villanova this game is forgotten about. We were goingto go undefeated in conference anyway and Seton Hall is not the best match up for us. Plus this was an away game which are always tough. We move on.

Oh, and I'm not jumping ship.

Losing a road conference game isn't the end of the world. It happens.

When it's the first league game of the year, you are favored, and the other team is missing a key player, it's a bad loss, whether we want to admit it or not.

Hmmm. Ironic this is the first thread you've made an appearance in since you bashed the team for blowing a lead against Syracuse.

Saturdays game is huge, must win.
Lose that and we could be looking at 0-3

Are you bi-polar? Your fanaticism has made Marillac look like a downer in comparison, and you are ready to jump ship after one road loss to a quality conference opponent? SH is 11-2 with a top 30 RPI. There isn't a team in the top 25 other than maybe UK that won't lose on the road in conference to a team like SH.

Deep breaths, guys. 11-2...rub some dirt on it...protect the home court on Saturday to stay in the top 20. The only "must win" games are against Depaul because of what a loss will do to the RPI.

C'mon, Marillac - you know he was just the same dupe with his new 'oldschool Redmen' handle. This was his over the top, super fake and overly positive fake account that he used to mock the "yes men' of redmen.com. I don't know how anyone could fall for this old mans BS. What a pathetic life it must be to be so old and spending the last chapters of your life being a ridiculous troll on the internet for a school you supposedly 'root' for. Quite the life but at least it gives me something to laugh at and make sure that I'm nothing like when I get to the last chapters of my own life.

I know - what a shock that FranWho? decided to show up now. TobinGrad will be here any minute followed by JohnnyFan, etc. What a surprise!

The refs calling a lot of ticky tack fouls in the beginning of the game took our defensive aggressiveness away in the first half. The last 2:30 of the first half we went from a 4pt lead to a 5pt deficit that was the second blow caused by our early foul trouble and not having certain guys on the floor, that was the second blow. Favored by a point? LOL.

It is not a bad loss. SH's RPI and record says otherwise.

It is considered a "rivalry" road game.

Some of you assume we'll just go into other teams' arenas and sweep the floor with them.

Get off the ledge.

Had to work, didn't see the game. How did JDR look?

Played 3 minutes - got 1 rebound and committed 2 fouls
Actually played alongside Obekpa for a minute or so
JDR did nothing of note in this game

The Hall had 18 assists on 23 made baskets
Give credit where credit is due
They played very well together today on offense
I knew that Gibbs was a good player - Sina was better than I expected
Delgado was also very impressive

Seton Hall played very well. This is truly one of those games where you have to credit the opponent, not to deflect from your own failings like Norm used to, but because they deserve it!
We isn't play our best, but we also didn't play awfully, Seton Hall though had a great game and really limited their mistakes. They didn't foul, made open shots when they had them, and fought hard defensively.
They might not be a great team, but they played a great game today.

Don't think we were out coached today. Simply outplayed.

Delgado absolutely bullied CO. Lavin can't be worried about JDR picking up fouls because that's what he's here for. Should've left him in the 1st half after he picked up 2. CO could barely make it down the court near the end of the game.

Sheed, Sheed, Sheed. He kills SH consecutively going to the hoop, then he clanks a 3. Can't hit FTs. Euro steps the ball off the backboard. Hits Gibbs with the ball.

He is delusional if he thinks he can go Pro.

Hats off to SH. Delgado controlled the boards. Sina hit open shots. And Gibbs carried them.

We better play desperate against Butler.

He outclassed CO tonight. What a beast. He never stops working and he plays within his abilities...Rysheed Jordan should take note of that.

Sheed had an excellent start to this game, and then got away from it once again. Gibbs called him out when raftery interviewed him post game too. When bill asked him about his prayer at the end of shot clock which sealed the win, Gibbs said he knew rysheed Jordan would go for the pump fake.

I really like rysheed. I feel for him, he's trying to feed his family and get to the nba, but he's just struggled this season. He wants to score but he doesn't really have a long range game. I'd like to see more of him getting screens and using them to drive and pop free throw line extended jumpers. He seems good at those.

Delgado is very coachable. Jordan not. John Lucas summer vacation is in his best interests.

Haven't read all posts but three comments:

SHU played much better after Sina got loose.
I knew we were in trouble when Burr was the ref and particularly after he called the early ticky tack foul on D'Lo in the back court.
Would have liked to see more JDR plus Obekpa as as the help defender to see if we could stop their second chance and penetration game.

Keys:

1) We didnt turn them over
2) They played smart and shot better than they normally do
3) We got back in it...but the 2 Technical FT misses hurt

Not in their heads but I think when we got up early (and, at that point, appeared to be the better team), they took for granted they would impose their will whenever they wanted...took some bad shots and let them take some wide open 3s which to their credit they made..

Phil Greene should not be allowed to shoot unless he is fully set...he is not a reliable shooter, at all, when on the move or with little time to gather himself...takes a lot of shots..so when he doesnt hit them, big momemtum changes

Today is my anniversary. I was hoping to get another present. Oh well, I still have my wonderful wife. :cheer:

You got married on New Years eve???? Man that must have been one hell of a party. Happy Anniversary.

Really wish we got Delgado. Like that kid a lot

This was a bad loss in my opinion. Real bad. Yeah road wins are tough but with our kids being older this is a game we should have won. Beating Butler on saturday is critical in my opinion

This game pretty much sealed my decision to get a taxi home tonight

One of the worst officiated games of the young season. There were at least 4 Seton Hall fouls not called. The technical on Jordan was not justified as it appeared he was giving up the ball that hit the Hall player inadvertently.  Foul shots and the ball?? The refs did everything but gift wrap the game with that call.  With the commissioner sitting at Courtside she should realize an incompetent Jim Burr should not be a Ref next season.
Sounds like sour grapes but the number of foul shots given the Hall was ridiculous.
As for the game and the players, Seton Hall was clearly better prepared and Sterling Gibbs showed SJ what it lacks in spades, a point guard that is a scoring threat.  Jamal Branch was clearly outplayed. In fact, except for D'Angelo Harrison, the Hall has a talent advantage at the guard positions even with Whitehead out. There is no consistency from players like Greene, Jordan or Branch to compete with the better Big East backcourts.  The best guard recruited by Lavin last year is a walk on. The best bigs are ineligible and Amar got no burn which left Obekpa sucking air in the final 5 critical minutes. As I suspect, this lack of depth will translate to tired legs by mid February and will only be one of the factors why this team will likely be  unranked and a bubble team by the time the Big East tourney starts.
Which leads us back to Lavin. The wardrobe has made him a joke to announcers. Wearing a turtleneck or open collar seems like too much work for this apparently lame duck attitude of his and the ever professional John Wooden is rolling in his grave. Of course his wardrobe will not win or lose any game but the negative comments by the press is embarrassing.

Congrats to the Hall but I think we'll win the rematch.  They have some nice young talent but I doubt Whitehead stays and Mobley is a senior. Unless Lavin pulls some recruits out of his butt they will have better talent next year even with those two losses.  Criticize Hit, me or other fans here but more games like today will be the norm without a bench or the inability by Lavin to make use of players like Amar and Christian to compensate for poor shooting guards that make us smaller than we really are.
