Seton Hall Game

@TomPenders: St John's losing at Seton Hall was not an upset . SJU will go far when they commit to a fullcourt press from the get go . Not just down 10+.

with more depth I could agree with Penders.

Agree . We beat SH if Greene only hit 2 more 3s He shot 6-16 please if you are off give it to someone else to shoot That lost the game for us How can we beat them next time when Whitehead will play

Think our talent is over-rated Just have to sit back and enjoy the games and hope for the best
We need a talented shooting class for next yr or we are in trouble and so is lavin'

You have to win a game like SH with all those Freshmen or now to do well in confer you have to get more than one player having seasonal best games Going back to Greens performance coach should at some point put someone in like stewart perhaps he hit a better % could not do worse than 6-16

is was a great wakeup game for us as fans. We are simply not deep enough or talented enough to run through the Big East with ease. The predictions of 13-14 wins are just not happening, and if you look at the schedule, there are not going to be very many easy wins, even in a depleted Big East. home and homes are tough to sweep for us because our talent margin is not great enough to offset a home disadavantage without great effort. That being said, I think that 11-12 wins is quite achievable, and along the way see some extremely competitive games. No surprises here yesterday. Seton Hall is a talented team, and we didn't play well down the stretch.

Disagree with some of our fans here. Lose to Butler at home this weekend, and we will regret that loss later on. We also really want to beat Nova on our court, because winning on theirs will be much tougher. One game at a time, but to be a top three team in the BE, we have to win home games.

Incredibly well-put. Big East conference play is a math equation based upon the simplicity of home and home. I'd like to see 11-7 and this is how hard it's going to be just to get there (most likely path):

Go 7-2 at home. Think we can beat them but would have to mark Nova as a loss based on probability. That means only one game margin for error, and I don't particularly love the way we match-up with Georgetown this year. In any event, even if we beat these two teams, 7-2 is a tall order and would be difficult to explain how Butler isn't about as close to a must win without being a must win as there is.

Go 4-4 the rest of the way on the road. Nova, Georgetown, Xavier going to be very tough, likely means 4-1 v. Creighton, Marquette, DePaul, Providence, and Butler. Again, I'm sure there are many different opinions on who we do and don't match up well with, but playing even the rest of the way on the road is a big ask no matter what.

I think 11-7 is very attainable, would be my prediction for us, just pointing out how difficult it is just to get to that.

Lavin can't even out recruit Kevin Willard!! :eek:hmy:

Lav and his hardworking staff offered Sina and Carrington who chose to play for Willard

My point exactly Otis. Also, Considering that Lavin and his staff took the 2014 recruiting year off, They should have done whatever they had to do to get Whitehead to SJU. Say what you want, but Willard isn't doing anything illegal to get these players and he's not doing anything that will get Seton Hall sanctioned by the NCAA. He's cutting deals and getting players, good for him. Wish Lavin could do the same.

Not defending Lavin and his staff, but we didn't have immediate playing time to offer either of them like Seton Hall did. That very well may have been a factor. Both Carrington and Sina are averaging 25+ minutes a game this year.

That's true Room 112, but Whitehead should be here. Whatever deal Willard cut Lavin should have cut. If Tiny wanted to come along then so be it. College Coaches do it all the time. Kansas did it with Danny Manning's Father years ago. It happens all the time. It's not uncommon.

Whenever Carrington's name came up, he was ridiculed on this board.

I can't dispute that at all.

I was one of those people you are probably referring to. I watched him in HS and he did not play like this at all. That being said he's a lefty version of Phil Greene who shot 2 of 7 from field against us so lets not cloud certain thing.. And as much as we kill Lavin he and the entire staff were all over him. He probably saw the amount of guards we have and chose to go somewhere else.

*And I wouldn't say ridiculed. We had other pressing issues not another guard and one that performed like he did in HS.

I don't think that's true. He wasn't a blue chipper so that will divide the fan base right off the bat, but I think 80-90% of us would have gladly taken him. He looked different to me every single time I saw him...sometimes he was outright dominant and other times he was passive and non-factor.

Seton Hall just beat Nova in New Jersey. That is two home wins against ranked teams in the last week. I wouldnt be shocked if they are ranked in the top 20 and ahead of SJU when the polls come out Monday even if we easily win today.

I would say Seton Hall will come in somewhere in the 19-21 range and SJU will be 22 with a win today.

Moose, I have only seen Carrington twice.. IMHOhe has way more game as a freshman than Phil has right now... He can penetrate and being lefty he uses that to thwart the defense in the paint.. Hit 2 clutch FT'S to win the game for the Hall..

Phil is Phil, good role player.. Carrington will be a quality player for them for several more years, even with Whitehead coming back.

As for Lavin not getting him, you never have too many guards that can play.. PT can be won in practice and in games, Who is to say he wouldn't have pushed ahead of Branch or Greene or, even Jordan, at some point? He showed me a lot today.

Here is his bio for anyone that is interested. I expect a lot more out of him then Phil Greene. Time will tell.

He goes left and Phil goes right. They have identical numbers as freshman.

There is no mistake Lavin busted it with Carrington. He was always there watching him. You're not wrong in competing for a spot but when these kids see minutes in 1 place and senior laden team elsewhere they are gonna go for the minutes nearly ALL the time. We have all these other guards on the roster and they aren't playing. Nobody is going to get minutes over our guards this year. Sorry but thats the truth.
