Rysheed Jordan - Stay or Go?

Agreed that this is all strange. Have heard from sources that he hadn't been to class in many weeks. My guess (complete speculation ) is the new coaching staff wants him to get his head on straight, "play the game" before acknowledging him as a member of team.

Judging by Twitter he's back in NYC as of today. The issue is of course that he may not have been here for weeks. If that's true could he become ineligible?

St. John's College and The College of Professional Studies, within SJU, where most of the liberal arts majors and sports management majors attend, did not have an attendance requirement when I went. If he extended his Easter break by a few days, for whatever personal reasons, then he should be able to make up any missed work just like any other student doing the same.

Thanks for that. I recently graduated the MBA program and teachers had attendance policies- I think the administration was pushing them to enforce it. Of course this may be different for the undergrad liberal arts majors.

Another issue, aside from attendance, is homework, tests, etc. during that time. Hopefully they can find out from the teachers what his status is.

Only at SJU there's drama after a player announces he's coming back. Wouldn't feel right without any. Personally, I think this gets resolved and Sheed is here next year. He's on campus as of today.

so no classes for him in a month?

No big deal. I didn't go to classes for years and still graduated.

Breakage in aisle 12!

Where the hell have you been?

I was in Chicago this past week for work - just got home an hour ago. Very long days, but did manage to have a near religious experience by taking in a Cubs game at Wrigley on a glorious April night, heard GW Bush speak extemporaneously in person (which I think would even have impressed you Tom), and in what should be a felony for a Queens guy, had what may have been the best pizza I ever ate (Lou Malnati's deep dish).

Thanks for asking. It's good to be back, even if I did miss Jack Williams self-imposed leave of absence begin. Well, MAYBE it was self imposed, but possibly parentally mandated as a result of a recent report card. :)

FYI most of the kids on the team never go to class. Had class with Mason Jr(who smoked weed everyday), Justin Burrell, Aaron Brooks, all in different courses, they showed up twice and never came back . Although I sat next to Avery patterson in one course and he showed up everyday. Told me he was going to transfer because he hated how much of the offense ran through Mase.

It is interesting to note that, according to articles, Kris Dunn of PC has continued to attend classes, work out with teammates regularly & confer with coaches while he decides whether to go pro or not. Sounds like an intelligent approach to managing down time, developing your game & utilizing your supports.

Maybe he's going to transfer some courses from UNC.

Whoa, are you seriously trying to tell us that some college basketball players never go to class? I wonder when THAT started? :)

I'm more interested in when Aaron Brooks was on campus. He'd have helped the teams in question. But seriously assume SigEp went to STJ and Oregon.

Yeah I've seen and heard really mixed things from D1 college in general. I had classes at a different D1 undergrad with college basketball players who showed up and some who didn't after the first class.

My brother is at NC State and he's in different classes with some players. Apparently they mostly show up but are listening to headphones or whatever during class. That's more than I was expecting honestly.

SI has him being picked at 17 in their first mock draft and say his stock is rising:

Dunn has enjoyed a rapid rise up draft boards the last two months as scouts have gotten a closer look at the total package he was believed to be before injuries slowed his ascent. Dunn is a big time athlete, but needs to learn the nuances of playing point guard. Who better to teach him than Jason Kidd?

Hahah I think he meant Aaron spears.

I had Lamont Hamilton, dexter gray, Otoja abit and Showtime in different classes. Otoja and Hamilton were the only ones who resembled "student " athletes lol

Hi Eddyjean!
Met Otoja Abit at an alumni hall game this year - very polished and articulate young man! He was sitting with (spelling) jasalonis/European player

That encounter reinforced my desire to have all former players in attendance recognized and announced at all SJU games!
These two players sat there, quiet, polite as if they had never even been on campus!

Wow this is not a new topic but I hope henceforth under Coach Mullin
ALL FORMER PLAYERS ARE RECOGNIZED
at sll home games. Can we savor our players and heritage just a little???

Now that I reflect upon this a few years back in the walkway behind a scoreboard, Jeff Allen and I had a wonderful conversation. He was in from Connecticut I believe. Not a peep about his presence.

On another occasion Terrence Mullin and I chatted - he was scouting for an NBA team perhaps his brother's. I know many of you fellow posters have met countless former players at games.

Can we get with it St. John's? I'm not even a grad and this discourtesy annoys the hell out of me!!! ( a vulgar descriptive adjective deleted to protect the innocent etc. whatever :) )
all the best!

Thank you Redken and Richard Steinfeld for your "thank yous"
I think there are cash rewards if one receives enough of them - and experienced posters have hundreds, others like myself a mere handful...
:)
pardon my brand of humor
all the best
and goodnight

"Thank You" SSG

because you deserve better damnit! :)

And I will not be satisfied with former players coming through until I know where Lee Green is. :)

Years ago, someone told me that they had student managers assigned to walk Showtime to class because he would never make it there on his own without an "escort"

I guess they didn't do a very good job :)

Never, ever, bring up the name "Lee" (Green or otherwise) to someone named Sherman, Sheridan & Grant ... or are you just taunting him?

Wow I hadn't thought of Lee Green until now, I remember how happy I was when I read in the Dsily News that he signed!!!
Goodnight Sleek!

Hey Beast
It all started, once upon a time of course, in 1891 when the Canadian- American Naismith invented the game - they must never had attended class at U Infiana because he also coached there!
:)
Goodnight
and
all the best
