Rysheed Jordan - Stay or Go?

Just a quick side question for whomever can answer; how much can the coaches work with the players in the off-season?
Thanks in advance

8 hours per week in the off-season for required activities. There are many ways around this rule (working basketball camps, phys ed classes, etc.). Most schools will have veteran players lead "voluntary" drills and games.

Sheed coming back is so awesome. Like that the handlers none of us would trust see that another year is the right play. I think his maturity did kick in this past season as it went on, and again, I do give Lavin some credit for not losing this kid for whatever reason. He's itching to go pro, but a year with Mullin, leading the team, and building on that wonderful 2nd half of the season...just the smart move on paper. I do hope this young man can have that story book ending of sorts, and love that he's the number one recruiter on twitter. :) I think he's ready to take his entire game up another level this coming year and like many others have stated, could really be one of the top two or three in the Big East this year. I think Mullin's more disciplined approach will be exactly the icing on his cake.

peace.

We have to be careful not to assume too much. We assumed for two years now that both Sheed and CO were goners and killed Lavin for it. Turns out CO is going to get his degree and Jordan will at least play his junior season.

Jordan seems to be on the Dlo path, and I mean that in a good way. Would be great if he stays for a fourth year too but obviously not counting on it.

Didn't you read the rulebook for this website? You are not allowed to give Lavin credit for anything! He was terrible! He is in the past.....we have moved on already, and so should you!

While everyone is talking about a potentially monster year from Rysheed, mostly about stats, what I am really hoping to see is a refined, more controlled game: Reduced turnovers, confident running of the offense, improved shooting percentage, and a well rounded boxscore of 17-18 ppg, 5 assists per game, 5 plus rebounds, and a shooting percentage around 50%. If he does that we could be a bubble team.

If Jordan accomplishes that, he could be first round material. What wouldn't impress me is 22 ppg on 40% shooting, poor assist/turnover ration, and only a couple of boards per game. I'm confident that Mullin will let this team run, but not tolerate sloppy play and poor execution.

If Jordan plays close to his collegiate ceiling, this could be a 17-20 win team.

He will have to score and will probably shoot a low %

As you agreed w 18-5-5 as a goal, what he needs is a refined, consistent game to attract 1st round attention. He can't go off for 28 one night, and 6 the next. 5 assists mean nothing if there are 5 turnovers. He has a nice stroke from the outside, but sometimes launches way too early at ill advised times, which lowers his shooting , reduces the chance for offensive rebounds, and shortens our possessions. Often he gets it in his head he is going to the hoop regardless of what the defense is giving him, resulting in blocked shots or turnovers. I know so many of us are enamored with his game, but I just think he has a long way to go to be an NBA player. If he puts the time in and listens to Mullin, he may travel quickly along that long road.

As far a complimenting Lavin on keeping him, I'm still on the fence. Some kids need to be coddled a bit and given a little more leeway, and others not. Some here feel that Lavin enabled him a bit, in part because we needed him and had no one nearly as skilled off the bench behind him. In terms of Lavin's handling of Jordan, I'd give him no better than a C+ or B, and maybe worse. However if Lavin was really a maestro at keeping him at SJU, then he'd deserve a B+ or A.

I think most of us are enamored with his physical attributes. His game still needs work.

His maturity might still need work also. Of course that is not uncommon. .
