Rasheem Dunn

Dunn is not a PG. he has good form on his shot. If he works on his three point shooting in the offseason then with his ability to get to the rim , he can be an extremely effective player next year for us in this conference. But, he’s just in a little over his head right now being asked to play PG in this conference and be the dominant ball handler on this team.

I’m very happy for him and me that he was cleared. I can’t imagine these BE games without him.

As far as Dunn, he's a 12 PPG first year player in the league, and his been a model of consistency. He's arguably been better than 2 projected all league players, it's not "blind faith" to assume a player that's been consistently good will improve in the off-season. Especially when I've seen players that have had his similar skillset make jumps and become all league players. Jaylen Barford is a guy that comes to mind, 1st year after JUCO averaged 12 PPG, struggled at PG position, shot 20% from 3, and following year averaged 17 PPG and made all conference.
Dunn is a 2G that can't shoot from the outside. That's a bad recipe for being an all conference selection. I like him and think he has a role on this team next year, but let' be serious...we have a better shot at making the NCAA tournament this year than he has at being the best PG or 2G in the BE next year.
I didn’t hear anyone say that he’d be the best PG or 2G in league next year, but IMO an all Big East selection(not necessarily 1st team) is not out of the question based on what we’ve seen this year. Do think he would need to develop a better jump shot for that to happen.
Think he needs to improve shooting and recognize when the shot is not there. That said, he has arguably been our best player and Certainly would be a candidate for all defensive team
I like Dunn, but that dribbling with the clock running down and then forcing a drive into traffic on our second to last possession was awful.
And on the coach, obviously he instructed Dunn to dribble out the shot clock, then attack. If not, he would have been screaming for something else when Dunn settled at mid-court, the play was in front of our bench.

Where are they when it counts. They seem totally incapable of making a play when it counts and coach doesn't seem to want any play set up for them. What is going on between the three of them?
This loss is on CMA. They were running clock with 10 minutes to play and a 10 point lead. You CANNOT do that with this group. I said this month's ago, the biggest weakness this team has is that it doesn't have anyone to close out games, to make sure we get good possessions down the stretch and limit the empty trips. Need one guy who is a quadruple threat to shoot, break down a defense off the dribble, set up a teammate for an open look, or get to the foul line.

That guy isn't on this year's team. Mike has to let them do what they do well and that's force the issue. Play up tempo. The minute they start winding the clock down to 10 sec and then chucking up a prayer to beat the shot clock they lose all momentum and rhythm on offense. This loss is all his.
Hard to get out and run, when you're not getting stops defensively. If a team is going to sit back in zone against us, that's going to slow it down, right there.

It's much easier to slow a game down, then it is to speed a game up.
You are right, we can't run just because we want to. But that doesn't mean we need to stop attacking in our half court offense. We spent the last 5 minutes of that game running our offense just to wind the clock down to 12 seconds and let Dunn improvise. They had one 3 on 1 break when the ball went to Heron for as wide open a 3 as you could ask for, and he kicked it back out to kill clock. Just saying that this team can't play that way. It needs to maintain its aggressiveness on offense.

Anderson obviously felt there was nobody else on the floor he wanted to run a play for, right or wrong. It's not the first time this season he's run that type of play for Dunn instead of looking to set up someone else.

This thread suffers from schizoid personality disorder, shifting back and forth from being a Cole or Dunn thread.

Tend to agree. Dunn's best suited to play the off wing opposite a shooter like (hopefully) Cole and to assist a true PG like (hopefully) Posh. He's not good enough at either position to be the primary option but his effort and defense should definitely get him a starting spot in a game where almost all teams are going 3 guard. If his forays into the lane are not the only option they should be more successful. And hopefully in his 5th year on a college basketball roster he will be able to also lead with maturity. If he can improve his jump shot substantially that would be great too.

It's called playing not to lose... not playing to win. But all of you know that already.

Fact is Dunn beats everyone down the floor most of the time for a layup or assist. He was in the process of scoring the winning basket when he mistakenly bounced the ball off his foot. It happens but 9/10 times Dunn wins the game on that shot.

Anderson obviously felt there was nobody else on the floor he wanted to run a play for, right or wrong. It's not the first time this season he's run that type of play for Dunn instead of looking to set up someone else.
Runnung out the clock results in a poor shot 9/10 times.

9 out of 10 times? Uhhh, that seems high

Sure. That's the way it usually works. Guys shooting 38% from the floor always improve to 80-90% in the last 10 sec of a game. ;)

I started the thread to praise the kid. Others have used it to attack him after Sunday’s game. Kid has played his heart out all year for us. Really pathetic to kick the kid when he’s down.

I missed it. Who was "kicking him when he's down"?

Monte, not too sure who is kicking the kid when he is down. Rasheem has been a g d send for us and has been a great addition to our team. He is neither as great as some have made him out to be nor is he anywhere as bad as some have portrayed him out to be. When anyone is put on a pedestal on this board there is always a group who feels the need to bring others back to their reality. That is just the nature of this board, be it players, recruits , coaches and former coaches.
Personally my reading of the board was that most posters pegged the horrible loss on CMA and not on Dunn.
In any event I look forward to the team bouncing back, getting a few more wins and Dunn having an even better year next season when he will not have to play the point or be the primary ball handler.

Shoot, layup, or dish I'll take Dunn to score or assist on that one over anyone we have.
