+100They have not improved. To me with the exception of the Seton Hall game they have basically been (in the macro sense) the same team all year. Some games or some stretches one player or another has stood out and another has regressed, but overall they have been very consistently who they are.
I think what that says is that Pitino has maxed out the results he can get from trying to get this group (in any combination, and he has tried just about every conceivable one) to play his way.
In my view - and it's just my opinion, and there's no way to know unless it was tried, which it hasn't been - things might have been different had he decided at some point to adapt to the tools he has to work with instead of trying to get the tools to become what he wants them to be. And it's too late for that now.
Hopefully the lesson learned is what tools he needs to acquire to do what he wants to do. There is obviously a track record that his approach can win a lot of games. I don't think he's going to change gears, so what's left is to see if he can get players who fit his system profile and can then get them to execute. I wouldn't bet against him, but I don't think any reasonable observer can say there's no cause for concern, either.
There is not a single grain of truth in that comparison, not one. An absolutely asinine ridiculous comparison.Even I think that "Daniss Curbelo" is an overstatement. Hilarious, grain of truth, but an overstatement.
Well, the facts don’t bear that out, we just disagree. Funny how the best player on the team, talent wise, is the one you choose to single out after citing the lack of talent as the problem. My last comment for sure.
I don’t think we overrated Joel. For whatever reason, he has fallen apart. . .he was absolutely 1 of the top 3 centers in the league up until this last 5-6 game period. . .I haven’t the foggiest reason what has happened. But, he is showing no fire and no pride and has definitely killed us.The harshest of realities down the stretch of this season is that Soriano is probably about the 5 th or 6 th best Centers in the league ..Oduro abused him all night and Joel put up another clunker on offense . We have over rated Soriano beyond his skills . That’s on us as fans .
One of the biggest weaknesses of the team is that they are very poor shooters . We have guys playing who hit 3 point shots .
Whoever blew smoke up Pitino’s Ass that Dingle could score in the BE should be identified and ask for forgiveness and banned from Recruiting .
Our Ivy League All Stars are out of the skill level in the BE . And , we all had them penciled in as impact players
Luis is too turnover prone at the most in opportune times . He has game but ,,his handle needs a lot of work and his IQ on the Court needs mucho off season tutelage .
Jenkins doesn’t have much help from this Roster .
My question is were any of these mid-major players that have had an impactful year available after Petino was hired? if not, then can't complain about the coaching staff grabbing who they could. We literally just had a list of 10+ guys who are impact players in the Big East who came from non-major programs.
Hell, looking at the national landscape on a very very quick search:
Mark Sears -- averaging 20ppg at Alabama. Transfer from Ohio
Dalton Knecht -- averaging 20ppg at Tennessee. Transfer from North Colorado
Tyson Walker -- averaging 19ppg at Michigan State. Transfer from Northeastern
The issue is that we simply chose wrong in the portal. It's not where they came from, it's about the players specifically.
Knecht was.My question is were any of these mid-major players that have had an impactful year available after Petino was hired? if not, then can't complain about the coaching staff grabbing who they could.
Were you banned during that time? You know exactly who he is as SJU79 has been on this site under your other pseudonyms. Also there was a very well regarded poster on this site who stated that Dingle was a difference maker, a potential pro and at another level of the rest of our recruits. I was not on this site at the time but I remember reading as such.
and to add to your comments, Dingle was given the direction to move w/o the ball yet seems to get to a spot a wait. . .if he moved crisply (which doesn’t seem to be in his DNA), he would getting (and probably hitting) more Open shot opportunities - which he does seem to hit with regularity.Didn't you watch the game last night? We DID die with Dingle and Alleyne. They both stunk up the joint in the second half. They GET OPPORTUNITIES AND THEY MISS.
stop gaslighting everyone here by acting like Jenkins is the bad guy at the end of a scooby doo episode who they rip the mask off of. I watched, with my two eyeballs, Alleyne miss multiple WIDE OPEN looks in pivotal moments in EACH of our last two games. He got two beautiful mid range looks late last night. Big possessions. He bricked. Dingle tried to hit multiple momentum altering threes in the second half. The BEST of those attempts barely grazed rim. and I mean BARELY.
Yea, Jenkins misses shots too, he has missed several big shots, and did last night as well. But he at LEAST shows a pulse in these games, and as a result is the guy that gets the shots.
Because he's the guy who hits the big midrange out of a timeout in the second half when the game was slipping away. Because HE was the guy who hit an outside shot to tie the game at 70 with a minute to go. Because HE hits those shots, HE gets to take the big shot down 3.
If any of these other frauds deserved these shots, we are all waiting for them to prove it. Luis is maybe the only other guy who was showing any semblance of shot making ability in the second half. But of course, he was 0-3 from downtown to that point, and we needed a 3
He's trying to play coy.
That's what gets me... I mean, c'mon- guys have bad games- bad stretches- they struggle for whatever reason offensively...they can't help it....But, he is showing no fire and no pride and has definitely killed us.
I still visit realtimerpi.com from time to time becaues their functionality is excellent, even though RPI is not a factor anymore. It can still be used as a directional indicator. On their conference rankings Ivy is #12, Summit is #25, Patriot is the worst in college basketball at #32. Doesn't reflect on any individual players but it does reflect on the level of play and competition they face.Is the Ivy League worse than the Summit League or Patriot League??
Absolutely has to be. . .he may not have the best footwork but he absolutely had refined his jump hook with both hands. His fall off is biggest reason for our demise and he has deserved to lose PT. But, we have zero chance (and maybe we already are at zero) w/o him getting right.Look, he's not playing like one right now, but let's not rewrite history to try and make a point. The kid was an all Big East level player last season, projected to be a 1st team all big east player this season, and played like one for the early part of the season. Something physical, mental or both is going on right now that's preventing him from playing up to his ability. No one is happy with how he's performing, but I for one am not going to discount how he's performed in the past, and give up on him performing that way again before the season is
over.
Marquette’s Tyler Kolek Voted BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year
Marquette guard Tyler Kolek has been named 2023-24 BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches. Connecticut guard Stephon Castle has been chosen BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year. The coaches, who were not permitted to select their own players, also chose...www.bigeast.com
Daniss Curbelo is meant to accumulate stats on a losing team at this level. No matter how much anyone likes him nobody can say he makes any of our perimeter guys better.Ahh! what a joke. Two players who have consistently shown how incapable they are of having any meaningful impact are the two that you are willing to accept losing with... Jenkins for how imperfect as he is, at least has the cojones to impact the game... Still waiting for Dingle to do that one game much less Alleyne!
He's dying for someone to start a Fire Pitino thread too. Were you banned during that time? You know exactly who he is as SJU79 has been on this site under your other pseudonyms.
Not to mention, why passive-aggressively call out SJU79? You've done it twice.
From his Penn stats it was clear he was a high volume shooter . One game he was 9-25 and throughout that year , rarely had a game where he didn’t put it up in mid to high double figures .Jordan Dingle 2022-23 Stats per Game - NCAAM - ESPN

Every year he played well against high majors also.
Ya think? Was Curbelo ever the best player on St. Johns?Even I think that "Daniss Curbelo" is an overstatement.
He could have been if his head was straight.Ya think? Was Curbelo ever the best player on St. Johns?
I know he is well respected and has given allot of good information. Banned? I just got here. Are you looking for an argument? .I didn’t come on here to argue with anyone but to discuss Johnny hoops. I didn’t think that arguments were tolerated here unless it’s a basketball disagreement. I met some pretty nice guys on here so far, hopefully that continues. Were you banned during that time?
