I know we aren't a great shooting team, but at least get good looks. Also Mamu is a very good player, very skilled...but it was too easy for him. He got too many clean looks. He was blowing by Julian and Toro all night. Wusu did a decent job late in the game on him but by that point the damage was done.

On a positive note I thought Dunn looked good. Considering he missed games and the season opener he played poorly. Going to need his minutes because the freshmen and the jucos need some time to adjust to Big East play.

Gtown is going to be a problem for us. I think their size gives them an advantage.
When you are down 6 points with 2 to 3 minutes to play it is time for 3 point shots. You need to toss Caraher in there with Cole as having only 1 shooter let's the other team focus on him.
Why is it time to take shots behind the arc in a six point game with two or three minutes remaining?

When has Caraher shown he's a reliable shooter behind the arc?
Certainly not this year, since he has yet to hit a 3.

We needed to rough up Mamu to slow him down.

We don't match up well with any team that has good big and strong front court players. Mamu and Obiagu killed our bigs. Moore, Roberts, Toro and Earlington were totally outclassed. Nobody could stop Mamu. He is very versatile - he can handle, shoot, pass and play in the post. Obiagu was a great "garbage" guy - picking up several offensive rebounds and scoring on put backs.

By the way, according to Zach B., Toro played as many minutes as Roberts and Moore combined. That's ridiculous!! Toro has not earned the right to play that many minutes based upon his performance this year to date. He should be the last option of these three guys until his play merits more playing time.

As mentioned, our half court offense is not good at all. We depend too much on our defense to generate scoring possibilities. We rely on hoisting up treys and we are not a good outside shooting team. We missed (as usual) several bunnies. But, despite it all, our kids fought their hearts and and kept the game close until the very end. Champ was excellent (needs to get the ball more often in the half court) and Dunn gave us a nice lift.

Getting a "W" at Georgetown is very important. They were picked near or at the bottom of the conference in the preseason poll. We can't afford to start the league season the same way that we did last year. I have faith in our staff and in our kids and trust that they can get the job done.

Agree completely on the half court offense. And without an effective half court offense, we are not going to get good looks from 3. I think we have capable outside shooters, it's just that their shot selection often results in lower % shots.

You left out Champagnie who spent the most time trying to cover Mamu and played very poorly defensively. We are just not a very good team on either side of the ball right now.

NOT having an INSIDE threat who is a good passer to cutters & over the top of the D to open players is going to hurt all year. (Of course you need him to score a decent amount, play D & rebound).Obvious they didn't have an athletic BIG to match up with Mamu who had almost 1/2 the Pirates points. The fact that the Johnnies were in the game until the final minutes speaks well of their effort. They play HARD & seem to be unselfish.
I have to agree with the announcers that Champagne has to get some more touches. All and all in this crazy season of the CV19 pandemic, I think it's a loss they can build on & hopefully start hitting some outside shots. PS Have to recruit A BIG.

Im surprised at how bad champy was on D. Mamu was just going right by him. Champy is better then that.

Mamu has close to 1/2 a foot on Champ, and is skilled as all hell. Let's be fair to Champ. What happened to Earl covering Mamu? That didn't exactly work out...to few people's surprise

Moore, Roberts, Earl, Toro, Wusu and McGriff had a combined 5 points and 13 PFs. This against not one of the best teams in the Big East. Safe to say we need better production collectively from those guys if we're going to have any kind of a quasi-successful season.

Mamu beat Champagnie consistently off the dribble, height had nothing to do with it. So let’s be fair.

Agree on all but Roberts and McGriff who only played 4 and 3 minutes respectively and took no shots. Equally alarming was the play of Alexander, Williams and Wusu - 78 minutes 20 points, 9 assists and 7 turnovers. There is plenty of “concern” to go around with all aspects of the team. As for those (not you) treating this as a “moral” victory to build on because we stayed close, Seton Hall is not a very good team. You build on moral victories in which you play well against a strong team, it is much tougher to treat losses you endure because you played poorly as learning experiences. One final thought, hanging close with a mediocre (at best) team is not any evidence of playing hard when the eye test tells you different. Outside of Alexander and Dunn, I don’t see many junkyard dogs out there, just my opinion.

I thought Posh played at a higher level offensively in the BC game than he ]did against BYU or Seton Hall. I think it was the size inside. Would like to see him attack the basket more even if he gets a few shots blocked or altered.

As someone had already pointed out recently,
Dunn can get anywhere on the court but misses easy layups once he gets there. That happened again yesterday. He still was a huge spark that kept us in the game. Wusu missed all four of his three point shots but I still felt he had a nice impact on the game. He is a great passer and sadly might have been our best defender on Mamu. Neither Williams or Cole had a very strong game offensively and that hurt.

I understand we are challenged by bigger teams, so they need to come up with a different game plan. I don’t agree that Seton Hall is a bad team but they are not Villanova or Creighton and we have to win more games against teams at their level to be competitive this season.

Wusu was terrible on offense but the kid busted his tail guarding a 6'10 All-BE for the final 10 minutes.
And Champ did everything out there, seemed to be the only helpside defender and worked hard to score on the baseline.

Can we finally admit that we are a little worried about the recruiting and talent that CMA has brought in here? Seton Hall beat us handily without one of their bette players in Aiken. They controlled the whole game, tempo etc. It was clear our talent level was no where close to theirs in all honesty, and as someone posted earlier, they aren't even one of the top teams in the conference. If we want to be a consistent winner we need better talent. I don't want to have to wait every 3-4 years for his teams to get good because they are all upperclassmen.

Is it just me or does anyone else just so frustrated watching CMAs system? It like they have no real defensive plan to stop other teams best players, they just throw pressure at you and hope that you turn the ball overloading to quick points. I feel like it is an out of date system that doesn't make proper adjustments. Far to many teams have Bigs that can handle which kills us. Much like our prior two coaches this coach runs no half court plays it seems. Our offense is that on defense we hope to turn them over, which is not a recipe for success. We need another game changer on this team. its Champ and a bunch of average role players right now. Sure I think posh will be good but he's limited offensively right now.

I just feel like this team has a very low ceiling, not trying to be negative, but just honest assessment so far. I just feel like if this system was so successful why don't any other coaches adopt it?

I know it's 1 B.E. game and there's a long way to go but after one B.E. game here I am hoping for .500 conference record and a bubble spot for NIT berth.

Certainly Roberts and McGriff bear less responsibility, but collectively the group was very ineffective. Although Wusu did contribute on D and with a few boards and assists. But you need more offensive production out of someone who plays 24 minutes, unless they're dominating on the boards and blocking shots. So going back to the point I and others have been making, the term "depth" that's tossed around so loosely here is a complete misnomer. We have a full roster, but right now we do not have much "depth". Maybe that changes as the season progresses and kids improve.
Will Champ get frustrated and transfer?
If he wants to go to a national contender he will. We had one end up in the final four...and Fig is playing for a top 20 team.
Face it. We're getting Norm Roberts players. Coach Anderson's style will keep us above .500...probably forever. Without another bonafide stud, that's all we can expect. Two and three star players have their share of good games...but not enough to be relevant.
Will Champ get frustrated and transfer?
Nothing to indicate that he will, but as his stock continues to rise, I'm sure other programs will be putting feelers out. Maybe he can convince his brother to come back home and play here.
