Boards is there any chance he changes his mind about maybe coming back for his senior year? Probably not
Probably not. He sees himself as a pro. He will play in the G League if necessary.
How does that make any sense. The G League will still be available to him after his SR year, no?
He’s made it pretty clear he doesn’t wanna go to school anymore and wants to make money playing ball. He’s as good as gone
Thank you. Obviously Drama can’t comprehend this.
I can comprehend this, doesn't mean it makes much sense.

You really wanted to see those freshman get put on a poster by Zion and have their confidence shot for the rest of
Their college careers? No thank you
I really want to see them in a St. John's uniform next season. Does that happen if they never play? I imagine never playing is damaging their confidence more than being dunked on by the No. 1 pick in the draft.

We might have a couple of second round picks. Those teams Fran recruited had first round picks, so we were very competitive with Duke then.
We beat them last year!
Not the same Duke team
True, different players, but Duke came into that game at 19-3 and ranked 9th in the nation. We were 10-13, and 0-11 in the Big East with an 11 game losing streak. We were a very different team too. Actually, a lot worse.
Duke did not have a player last year as dominant as Zion on their team. They had Bagley and Carter but those guys are nowhere near as dominant as Zion.
This Duke squad is also much better defensively than last year’s version.
My point was to add to Las Vegan’s assertion that we were competitive with Duke during the Fran years. That may be true, but we were also competitive with Duke last year as is obvious from our win.

And we are still the last out of conference team to beat them on their home court 18 years ago. Not much solace to today’s trouncing, I know, but hey, I’m a St. John’s fan. I get my highs with this program wherever I can! ;)

Ponds was getting stripped left and right, chucking up nonsense. This was his time to shine on the big stage. Nobody really cares about the BE when it comes to the draft. Marcus Howard is a 2nd rounder according to the mock drafts.

You can be the most talented player, but if you don’t deliver game in and game out then it doesn’t matter. Shamorie was sloppy today and wasn’t ready.

Irony is thatvhe called out the team after gtown loss, but he had been inconsistent.

Not the same Duke team
And their best player (Bagley) was in foul trouble and on the bench for most of the game.
The biggest difference between this year, and last year, was MSG vs. Cameron Indoor.

Yes, I know that Duke brings a lot of fans to MSG, but it's not the same.
The only way we beat them is if they are off and we are on fire + don't get in foul trouble. That's it.

Ponds and our guys thought they could turn it on and beat anyone. I did too. They just got embarssed and can't hide. This can either help by making them realize they need to fight for every inch it can kill their confidence.

I think we will like the newly humbled Ponds better than the guy that thought he could just flip a switch this year and get what he wanted. It's been a rough year for him all things considered.

We don't have the roster to match up with this Duke team. Still, I agree, the way we lost is disappointing.

Yes, Ponds had a bad game and it may have impacted his draft position. That said, he's our guy. He's our ride or die. Let's not rip him apart for the next three days.

This was a game that could only help us, playing a team That has not lost a non conference game at home in 19 years. We hung in there for almost a half with our best player out to lunch. I think SP sees this as a humbling experience and comes back next game. An absolute spanking shows how far we have to go to be a really good team. UVA played Duke close at Duke a few weeks ago. Let’s head north and play hard at MU. If we beat MU we have a chance to go on a nice little run.
Shamorie is very talented but I think he will be disappointed with his draft position
In their last update (3 days ago) nbadraft.net had him at 54. I think he falls off of draft boards after today, but he still has time to prove otherwise.

I agree we shouldn't rip him apart.
Some of my frustration though relates to his more recent amp up in playing what appears to be a false casual air. It seems he want to project, I can play around with my dribble and make you look silly. He "pounds away" as the commentators said a lot more than needed with that bent over, through the legs approach. That may work with weak players, but you can't go through three all star defenders who are themselves bound for the NBA and think you are going to make the supreme shot or pass at the right moment. Instead, he got stripped over and over.
It's the attitude that he is already a pro tiger that can play with his food. This time he was the one who got eaten.
Nevertheless, while I prefer a humbler approach to this game, he got us to here, so we need to root hard for him vs Marquette and the rest.

Shameful Mullin didn't empty the bench.....with about five minutes left. Nothing to be gained with Ponds, Figgy and Heron on the floor.
Total contrast in styles(and yes, the talent dictates that style)but one team values offensive rebounding, the other considers the thought of it almost sinful. We don't even have anyone lined up in the blocks on a foul shot..in the first half! I know they are trying to avoid stupid fouls, but c'mon, could you make it any easier on the opposition? Many rebounders fall asleep on free throws(Sedee, I'm looking your way) and even someone without much size can sneak in and steal one, not from halfcourt though.
Thought a good play would have been having Ponds harass his man full court, like what was happening to him, maybe get into his head a little.
Nothing I hate more than a privileged coach bitching about calls when they are up 25. Coach K gets on the refs case because they called a tie up after that crazy scramble(and Williamson soccer kicked the ball out of the mass) C'mon!!

C'mon man, he was a 2nd rounder before this game. Big fan of him, but have to keep it real.

There is not much you could do. Bad match-up. I think Zion and any 3 on his team could beat us 4 on 5. They had size and speed and strength at every position. Problem for rest of season is Simon's complete lack of confidence in his shot. From anywhere. His handle is gone too. As a coach, what can you do. You need him for other reasons. Very big disadvantage to have a guard that can't make a basket beyond an uncontested dunk. He is given open looks, and it takes away from his drives which everyone overplays.
Remember if Ponds is our point guard then Simon is the shooting guard. God help us!
Unfortunately today Neither played their position.
Ponds bringing the ball up was painful to watch. Played directly into traps as if he had money on the game. The strip by Zion was embarrassing but not as much as his casual fast break dunk attempt. What scouts saw today was a very aloof player. Like the rest of the team he is rarely consistent for an entire game.
As for the game I expected to lose by around 15 and had we not shot like a D3 team in the 2nd half we should have covered the spread. Also, no Zion and it could have been a much closer game.

No one perfect, today certainly a poor outing, but clearly this team would be in a ton of shit w/o Ponds.

Slick controls his own destiny. This game will mean nothing if he carries this team deep into March.
