Pinzon Instagram

CMA was right to suspend Pinzon. You don’t go on social media to trash your coach the day before a big game. What did Pinzon think that was going to do to the morale of his teammates who are working hard under already difficult circumstamces? He didn’t care. It was a punk move and he needed to be taught a lesson. Anderson may not be a good X and O guy but he got this right.
I agree.

But where was CMA when Curbelo was suspended for a game, not allowed to even be on the bench. With that Curbelo shows up at the game as a fan, crashes CMA's press conference and the posts it on Instagram for the world to see. Curbelo was allowed to play next game.

No doubt that Pinzon wants out of StJ and do doubt he and his friends are attempting to market him but IMO his post does not make him more attractive in the transfer portal. His act shows poor judgment and a level of maturity which many coaches would not welcome as a first alternative.

Have to agree Otis, he should have kept his mouth shut (fingers still?) finished out the year and bolted. Not many coaches would welcome a kid who would publicly undermine a coaching staff.

Anderson has thin skin as shown in his defensive, even silly, responses at his press conferences. Read Pinzon’s post again. It praises his high school coach. Nowhere does it mention Anderson. The post praises structured basketball. Anderson will tell you he plays a structured system. Remember, he told us it takes a great deal of time to learn his system. He also told us we have lost some games because the team had to learn his system. So why is Anderson upset that Pinzon likes structure? A better coach, one that could lead and had the respect of his team, would have handled this situation differently. He would have posted agreement that Lui had a great coach and spoken to Pinzon privately. But not
Iron Mike, who has caused more players to transfer in four years than any coach in our history. Think about that. Now he has ruined our relationship with Lui, and the PR National Team as well. Note that Pinzon has been a high profile player on many teams and has never had a problem with any other coach. At the end of the season Pinzon will be a sought after transfer. No one will be interested in taking Anderson.

Don't blame the messenger here. Pinson is giving you an insight into what's going on with the team in and out of the locker room.
He's telling you what the players are saying about the coach. He just had the cojones to put it in writing.
He's pointing out the ineptitude that many of you are writing about here. There's ineptitude on many levels.
He's screaming that a mass exodus is on the way after this shitshow of a season.
You're looking at careers going down the drain.
Sure, there will be more than a thousand players on the portal...but what winner will want to come here, especially with the chump change NIL money we'll be offering.. Two and three star players will be rejecting us...but we'll laud every signing until they dribble the ball for the first time.
My guess is even a Pitino may not be enough. Up and comers??? Keep laughing.
NIL is the biggest lure and this will probably be the only money most of these kids will make playing basketball. Pinzon sees he won't get very much from this administration. especially with Mike (You're In The Doghouse Now) Anderson at the helm...thus the frustration.
Our current AD thinks nil...as in nada/bupkis is all the players are entitled to...and the team senses this.
I don't even know if he has any NYC connections with deep pockets. Today's successful AD's need connections. Maybe Cragg knows a couple of tobacco farmers...but this is the biggest city in the country. There's big bucks here. We know Duke got jobs for players' parents as a major recruiting tool...but I don't know if Cragg had a hand in that.
We haven't had a impact player in the NBA in years. Kids still dream of playing there. Who's coming here with that track record?
All I can say is "Thank you, Mr. Pinzon for drawing the curtain back and revealing Oz is just another illusion."

The players who have recently transferred out and have performed the best have been the ones that worked hard and found a good fit, look no further than Josh Roberts, M. Earlington, G Williams. We also had the Isaiah Moore, Mikey Dixon, and Ian Steere that seemingly had talent but didn’t really fit in at any of their stops.

If Curbelo and Pinzon transfer which, is probably a good bet based solely on suspensions, it will be interesting to see what category they fall into.

Pinzon was out of line with his post. Period. Actions have repercussions. Suspension was warranted. Pinzon is not a D1 player And will not be missed. CMA is not a D1 coach. Too many things lacking in his game.

The term “not a D1 player” or “not a big east player” are thrown around way too often. Pinzon is one of our more skilled players on offense. Obviously he lacks foot speed defensively but he belongs at this level or just below it, far from “not a D1 player.”

CMA not a D1 coach? He has been a D1 coach for 20 years. Is he not going to be a D1 coach in the future? Sure. But that’s a silly statement.

Pinzon is not a Div 1 player? He was the starting pg on the PR u17 team that had success internationally. And he will be sought after in the portal. Watch!

In case Cragg is reading this, here is checklist:

1. A lot of basketball left - It was folly when Cragg said it, because the balance of the season was nothing more than a glorified exercise in scrimmages. Once we reached mid-January, it was obvious the only way this team goes to the NCAA tournament is by winning the BE tournament.

But now as this team regresses, there is little hope of this team winning consecutive games on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

2. Recruiting - I do not doubt it would have been very unpopular among the local coaches (especially LUHI) if Anderson didn’t accept Curbelo. But now it has now metastasized into Pinzon and truly wrecked the relationship between the staff and LUHI. But the mess has also been noticed by the other local coaches.

3. The Media - No one pokes fun at SJU because that would mean the media is paying attention. We barely make a ripple in the local media. Forget the national media which does not even remember we have a basketball program.

4. Fans - While we are a proud community of masochists, everyone has a limit. How many times can we watch reruns over and over of mediocre programming without finally tuning out?

If I missed anything, feel free to add.

I did not judge CMA on his prior jobs, just what he has demonstrated here. The guy has no clue when to call a timeout. He’s past his prime.
What ARE Pinzon’s offensive skills? An occasional 3-pointer? He’s been hurt most of his time at SJU.

Pinzon suffered from post Covid heart complications He could have and should have taken a red shirt year. But he stuck it out for the team. Foolish him. Check out Pinzon PR national team videos on u tube. The kid can play. Kolby Kung could not even make those teams. Pinzon started and was often the high scorer. Pinzon spike the truth. I don’t blame him one bit for being disgusted with this street all knifefight that Anderson preaches.

Pinzon’s act has negative consequences for both CMA and himself.

For CMA, it illustrates that he may have lost control of his team which, if true may cause the StJ’s Board to gag and pay out a buyout.

For Mr. Pinzon, coaches at other schools may now view this 3* high school recruit who has been unable to distinguish himself on the St.John’s roster may lack the discipline and maturity to recruit through the transfer portal thereby preventing from getting the number of transfer opportunities that may have otherwise available to him.
Never met Pinzon not do I know who his advisors are but I have zero doubt that someone or more are pissed as hell at CMA. They also knew full well what the consequences of his actions would be, meaning they know he is gone one way or another.
Contrary to my buddy Otis I don’t think other programs will be hesitant to take Pinzon. In 2 years he failed to distinguish himself in the BE. He will be going down a level or two and many a lower level coach will be happy to welcome him to their program. It will be easy to paint a poor picture at SJU.
As for CMA everyone knows of the Andre Curbelo problems , for which blame cannot be solely attributed to CMA , however , Pinzon’s post really paints a negative portrait of CMA that will be very hard for him to bounce back from. CMA and SJU are thé bigger losers as a result of Pinzon’s post.

I think it’s pretty obvious Pinzon has skill. He’s a good shooter, has a pull up game and is good off the dribble at creating his own shot. Those are things most of our players lack. Now he does have some issues playing within the offense sometimes where he wants to be “the guy” when we don’t need it. I think if he had been healthy and had a coach that could use him correctly he would end up one of our top scorers.

If Pitino comes here, Pinzon is not going anywhere if Pitino wants him to stay.

So how about he address his concerns with coach behind closed doors instead of calling him out publicly?

You’re talking about a coach who won’t listen to his own coaches. Do you think he will listen to one of the kids then?
