Nuri Leaving

On a side note UCLA just dismissed Reeves Nelson. Wonder if he is a reclamation project?

If he proves to the NCAA that the only person who can save him is a NYC-based psychiatrist, can he get a waiver and start playing with us next semester?

LOL! B)

According to the Daily News, Nuri wasn't at practice yesterday because he was filming a commercial? What the hell? Can there be a more selfish act than that?

I heard it was a commercial where he had to sink a free throw at the end, took 4 takes.

That was the funniest post on this depressing thread. Kudos ccnobz

Bobre you are out of your mind!!! We are so fortunate to have Lavin as our coach. Give the guy a break!!! In collegebasketball s__t happens. It occurs in many scholls not just SJU. We have to look at the long range future of SJU basketball and not focus on this year. Believe me, LAVIN is the man!!!!!

This all stems from the fact that Sean Evans did not get enough pt last season and when he got in the nationally televised Puke game and was the player of the game it showed how Bobre has been correct from day 1. I suggest Bobre replace Gene Keady on the bench.
By the way has anyone seen Vernon Teele, we desperately need a pg?

If Mark Jackson was our coach, Sean Evans never would have been benched and he'd be on the Knicks roster right now.

In the end, would anyone want a kid to play for StJ, who doesn't want to be here? I personally have faith in the coaching staff, and hope they stay in tact. If so, I think the future of StJ hoops will be bright, even if it isn't as quick as all of us would like.

I do recall when Jay Wright had that great recruiting class when he first took over. Most couldn't believe that his talented freshmen and Sophomores didn't make the tournament. Some wanted him gone. Building takes time.

Building takes time - absolutely - what could we have expected this year with all the changes and new young players? It's all alright.

Is Nuri taking his exams?

Any hint of where he will end up?
Knicks amnestied Chauncey Billips so rumor has it the Knicks are salivating at the thought of signing Nuri as their starting pt guard. :silly:

From ESPN Insider-

It's a slightly old update, but when Nurideen Lindsey announced he would transfer from St. John's, the most popular potential destination was La Salle, a school the guard had originally committed to back in the aughts. However, according to Matt Breen of Philly.com, Lindsey will probably not transfer to the Atlantic 10 program.

Another possible destination? Drexel. The assistant who recruited Lindsey to La Salle -- Ashley Howard -- is now an assistant for the CAA program and it would not surprising if the Dragons start to pop up in the where-will-Nurideen-transfer-to discussion.

La Salle does not want him. The problem is with his accademics.

Do you think that part of the reason he quit was that he was going to flunk out of St. John's? That makes more sense than him sucking on the court. ;)

Nuri leaving was the best thing to happen to this team. We went from a horrid FT shooting team to #2 in the Big East with a group of first year players...we've gone 4-2, and we've landed a true PG that plays defense and will be eligible to play an extra year longer than Nuri.

I only wish Nuri left before the A&M game, so we'd have an extra two wins (A&M and Detriot).

I originally thought Nuri left because of selfishness and his desire to go pro. I'm starting to think it was likely other reasons and more academics. He tweeted today about how much he missed his SJU bro's... I don't thnk we'll ever know the true story. Starting to think though, that it's not quite what it might have seemed. Good luck to him and hope he makes it to a place where he is content.

I was not a big fan of his game but I think this is a little tough. The team did need him early in the year when the others were feeling their way (and btw although they've made huge strides they still have a long way to go). And I think that had he stayed and worked on the holes in his game he would have been a good player for us. You're right that if he continued to be selfish and didn't develop a jumper then we are better off without him, but I have to believe that had he stayed he would have improved on that.

It's a little tough and its also nonsense. SJ is 8th in the conference in FT shooting, not 2nd. Take out all Lindsey's FTs and SJ moves up a couple of spots, unless of course Dom Pointer (.47), Amir Garrett (.37) or Harkless (.68) took those FTs, and then not so much. Lindsey led the team in scoring vs A&M and was second in rebounds -if he'd made those 2 FTs they'd have given him the game ball. Meanwhile versus A&M Gazuntheit Achiewa scored 3 points and had 3 rebounds in 30 minutes; versus Detroit GodBlessYou had no field goals and 5 TOs in 38 minutes. Meanwhile w/o him SJ managed to beat the likes of Texas Pan Am, Fordham, and St Francis.

That said, Lindsey wouldn't have been around in 2 years when the team contends so in that sense the more minutes for the freshmen the better. But mindlessly ripping the kid and spreading lies and rumors about him really should be beyond the pale.
