NIL’s

Lad
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you are being naive to think NIL doesn't factor in situations like this. Kadary Richmond was benched last season for a couple of games.
The circumstances were obfuscated by PR folks but some coaches are fed up with changed relationships post NIL.
A great coach at the University of Virginia chose to retire rather than deal with the bullshit.
Give me players with a "team" mindset over some of these gold miners.
For you I would use Davidson and their basketball philosophy as an example.
It was a pleasure watching a bunch of "student-athletes" school a Big East Providence team in basketball fundamentals.
Kadary was not benched last year. My understanding is he chose not to play because Seton Hall was delivering on his NIL deal.

The time for "feeling bad" for players charging 6 figures for their services are over!
Their agents negotiate like 10th Avenue pimps and they are professionals in every sense of the word without having to honor a contract beyond one basketball season.
''players charging 6 figures for their services''. You familiar with NIL? How much do colleges make on college sports? 110,000 people bring in a boat load of revenue on a Saturday afternoon. You begrudge the players getting a piece of that pie?

No I do not. But it seems they need a CBA. The model now will imploded and I think that will be a good thing. To bring sanity and common sense back to college sports.
I'm afraid that cat's out of the bag. These state colleges never had it so good. The donors are coming out of the woodwork.

I don’t begrudge them Tom. We live in a free market society with a free market economy. Anyone should be able to monetize their skills and be compensated as much as the market will allow. If they are creating and generating revenue then should get be able to share in that. That being said, they are basically pros now and no one should bitch , moan and complain when they are treated as such. That’s part of the deal now.

There are 352 Division 1 teams.
There are only 25 profitable Division I programs; the rest lose roughly $16 million every year. All of the schools in Division II or Division III have consistently reported financial losses from athletics over the past 16 years.

You are delusional to think college basketball (and sports) can sustain equitable opportunities for players and competitiveness among schools with the current sad state of affairs.

I'd like to see how much more revenue the schools have gotten based on the increased applications, ticket interest, and revenue increase from happy alums/fans. I personally know people who increased their contributions after pitino's hiring and we're not close to the only school with a Mike Repole. All colleges have them. You don't hear any schools complaining about it. Colleges are making the jump up in competition (Division 1 from 2 for example). You don't do that if it's losing money.
