Michael Chandler (OREGON VERBAL)

Since it looks like Nolan is off the table, can someone please summarize the status and posible timeframe for knowing if Chandler will qualify, and when we might (hopefully) get a commitment??? Thanks.

I'm guessing a commitment by may 16th at the latest, so less than 2 weeks :silly:

Nobody knows except for those ppl in Indy. If he gets cleared he will be here. Simple as that.

our history with NCAA has not been favorable. Seems Uconn gets away with grand larceny and get players reinstated and we cant even get a parking ticket without being held hostage by them, Here's hoping,

I can't even pretend to understand the NCAA, it all seems so arbitrary. Sometimes they are very merciful, see UConn, and other times what they do to young kids is boardline criminal, See SHU wrt Michael Glover.

Lasti heard, rumors were that there was a good chance he'd be cleared. NCAA taking more time isn't necessarily bad news. It's pretty easy for them to outright deny clearance pretty quickly. Chandler is the big prize here should he be cleared. He'd step in and be an instant force up front for teams to deal with. We will find out sooner or later one way or the other. Things could swing in our favor very quickly if NCAA gives him the thumbs up. Cross your fingers.

As far as is knwn, are the issues re clearance pertaining to his academics, or to the alleged involvement with an agent or someone conected to an agent?

Academics.
The agent stuff was cleared up prior.

The agent stuff was all cleared up and Chandler had been commended for being cooperative.

Does his clearance with the NCAA have to do with how he scores on the May SATs or is he just waiting for the NCAA to clear him ?

Any time frame? Thanks.

Paultzman on JJ said it might be this week
I've got my fingers crossed

Right to hope we will hear from the NCAA by the end of the week?

By the way I feel like the son in the backseat bugging his parents, "are we there yet"

You are :)

And you can hope all you want but honestly nobody knows. NCAA is unpredictable

My gut tells me that staff probably feels pretty good about Chandler's chances considering they havent reached on a big man. I don't think we need to reach at this point considering who we have coming in and our greatly increased depth. Still no reason to push Chandler for any type of committment before he's in the clear. At that point it would make both SJU and Chandler look bad if he doesn't end up qualifying. Let's just sit tight and wait it out. We have a really nice class coming in and a nice group returning.

We wont be tremendously undersized against teams this year, but certainly Chandler would be icing on the cake. Chandler is one of a very few post players that can be a big difference-maker here. Just watch his videos, which aren't just a bunch of dunks. In addition to height, he has great hands, great ability around the rim with both hands and a great sense of space down low. He'd also be a great compliment to our zones down low with his ability to block some shots and cover the paint area. There aren't guys out there that can provide for SJU what Chandler potentially can IF he ends up qualifying. We'd be hard to stop this year if Big Mike Chandler suits up next to Jakarr, Orlando and Amir with Branch and D'Angelo in the backcourt. Very exciting possibility to have a team that can hang with anybody.

I don't know if it's the NCAA clearing house that's the problem, or it could be that MC just took the May SATs. None of this has been made clear and it's hard to understand the secrecy behind this recruitment ! We all seem to be kept in a sort of la la land concerning MC's status . Nothing is clear except that we are waiting.

If it's the NCAA clearing process, they have really put us at a disadvantage, as well as other schools in their respective recruiting.. Except, in nailing down the recruiting of MC the delay exacerbates the entire scenario..

We have come to the point where the NCAA will decide after the signing period has expired.

If MC qualifies, we are relegated to a verbal and/or a grant in aid procedure which ends in a soft unenforceable commitment. No teeth !

Both of these are very tenuous kinds of commitments. Meaning they mean next to nothing as far as obligating the recruit.

Speaking candidly,an LOI was the real thing that we wanted from MC, especially from MC.

What's done is done and I guess let's be thankful for at least getting something, if in fact we do. Let's hope we do.

I hope Green and other players "under the radar" are not forgotten - and as we know sometimes a kid blossoms more than expected!

all the best
