Mets 2024 Season

Met fans are always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

We are in a real playoff race. Our collective fears after decades of trauma is evident in every bad at pitch, pitch thrown, and managerial decision.

I'm really just trying to enjoy this for what it is. A decent team who have pushed into the playoff discussion surprisingly.

Something about teams in Queens that provoke such emotions

We’re playing with house money this year. Where we are now is where I hoped to be when August came around.

I feel multiple things at once about this Mets team.

I get that because of the disastrous Verlander and Scherzer salary situation, this team has the highest payroll in baseball but yet clear roster holes. I am so happy we are actually in the wild card mix because the year started ominously

But at the same time, guys like Pete Alonso need to be held accountable when playing poorly, because we don't wanna make the payroll situation worse by investing too much in a guy who simply may be past his prime.

Alvarez got touted by the fanbase as this messiah-like figure when he originally burst onto the scene, the hype was out of this world, but the lack of power hitting has been frustrating to watch. I trust he will continue to evolve as a hitter, but damn his ABs can be annoying.

Nimmo is paid like a star, he batted .188 in July and has seem to hit a wall.

This season has been exciting yet also mildly frustrating, because the starting pitching has given us a real chance to make the playoffs, guys who are paid to produce don't always seem locked in.

So a very tough hard fought loss for the Metsies against another top notch notch MLB powerhouse, 3rd in 4 games in which their 3-4-5 hitters have gone a collective 6 for 42, 1 for 10 with RISP.

The lack of power from Alvarez is wild. He’s got great bat speed and he’s hit absolute bombs. Baty had the same problem too. They both have great natural power and should be 25+ homer guys.

Alvarez has a launch angle this year of just 6.8…which is almost half of what he had last year.

I think it’s been reported Alvarez is battling a shoulder issue. It’d make sense why power is down if it’s more serious than what they’re leading on

Mets take strikes right down the middle then flail wildly at pitches off the plate has become the norm. Very frustrating to watch.

Agreed 100%, that and pitchers consistently running deep counts, resulting in way too many walks and high pitch counts, and too many, “I’ve got to throw a strike” pitches make them a very, very frustrating team. There are those who revel in them being in the wild card race, me, I think with a little more focus on smart basic baseball play, their record could and should be much better.

Good comeback win. Butto strong yet again with two big innings late. 0.87 ERA as a reliever in 20.2 inning. Blackburn 2/2 as Met.

3 hit game for Winker, we need him to add some pop to the lineup, good sign

Lindor with the big hit nice to see as well cause he’s been cooling off

I can see fans on twitter are really starting to get fed up with what we’ve been seeing from Nimmo lately

Since June 2nd in 20 IP/22 games, Ottavino has a 3.15 ERA, his RE24 is 3.75, 24 strikeouts to 6 BB and .585 opposing OPS

Pretty crazy we're in a situation where he's now being openly talked about as a guy who can get released. I think they'll play the options game and Young goes down when Garrett is ready. But everyone will be on notice with SRF and Nunez also popping up.

I've missed the last few games but Nimmo's someone I can't get mad at. I know he's a gamer and trying hard out there. I'd like for him to get back (a little bit) to prioritizing walks/getting on base but he'll turn it around.

He’s streaky…like pretty much all of them 😂

Yea I'd never question Nimmo's effort he does seem to leave it all out there.

Logen noted recently he thought Nimmo may be prioritizing power hitting in his ABs of late, and it could be impacting his average as a result. That has stuck in my mind watching him bat the last few games.

This whole wild card push would feel a lot easier if could get going a bit

Good bounce back the last couple of days. Ok, on to Seattle. Tough matchup. Hopefully, they play well.

Not gonna lie, If you would have told me the Mets would have a record of 61-54 at this point I would have asked for whatever you were smoking. They also are officially in 2nd place ahead of the Bravos by a half game and 3rd WC. Sprint to the finish. Hope lives.
