Mets 2024 Season

Braves down 6-0. DBacks down 4-0.

Big opportunity for us today to win a game, win a series, and potentially gain some ground
Dbacks up 5-4 going to the 9th. Mets have a chance for a 1st inning run without a hit on a Lindor walk, stole 2nd on a Nimmo K, 3rd on a throwing error by the catcher and Martinez never swings, taking 3 strikes sandwiched around a ball, Alonso grounds out, 0-2 in the first with RISP.

That Martinez AB was as uncompetitive as it gets

And the Mets fail yet again to bring in a runner from third with less than 2 outs. 2-10 RISP, 3-17 last two games.
And another numbing loss.

Disgusting loss.

Padres and DBacks are playing great baseball right now. They look like the teams ready to make that October push, we look like the odd team out

I feel like every time I come into this thread and say "big game today" we play awful and lose.

So this game against the Cardinals means nothing, I hope we come out lazy like yesterday and strike out looking seemingly a million times

I get it’s baseball but yesterday’s loss was disgusting. Look at the two rosters. The Mets have much better active personnel than the Angels. Sure didn’t look like it. The players are responsible for a lethargic, piss poor effort. It is also on the Manager to push the right buttons. Ron Darling, from the beginning of the game, highlighted as to how important this game was. Don’t seem like the Mets players felt that way. If they miss the playoffs by a game or two point no further than the last two losses.

I could not believe Martinez’s first inning AB, which you described perfectly as “uncompetitive”. Hard to understand…………..

I understand JD has hit a couple grand slams recently, but him and Alonso both have become too content with lazy ABs. Alonso just whiffs at anything and shows a refusal to work the count ever, while JD seems so content with just standing there with the bat on his shoulder unless the perfect pitch comes along. These are the guys who appear to be locked in as our 3 and 4 hitters for the rest of the season. They need to be way better, especially since the other "power hitter" Francisco Alvarez has been completely figured out by opposing pitchers...

JDM stands very far off the plate. Teams know it and are trying to hit the corner on him. Down and corner strikes he can’t touch and I think he knows it. It’s frustrating that he seems content to wait for “mistakes” that he hammers the opposite way most of the time. Not sure why he doesn’t adjust closer but he has a very successful track record. Maybe he does or maybe the hitting coach is talking to him but we will never know.

Tyrone Taylor with a massive hit. 5-0 Mets!
And maybe I am being picky or too greedy but they again fail to score a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs, this time Nimmo, who seemingly decided to turn himself into a power hitter and has fallen off the face of the earth. I would add him to the Martinez/Alonso critique as another player who seems to have forgotten what a tough, grind it out at bat is.

Or right on target!

Ebbs and flows.

Mets just have to find and ride another wave here. The starting pitching is strong, so they are in virtually every game.
Garrett and Ried-Foley back by next week. Marte shortly after that.

McNeil seems to really be picking it up. If you asked me before the season, I would have said his absolute floor was the .270 he hit last year. It would take a really good finish from him to hit that mark. This is a guy that had a .360 career OBP coming into the season and sits at a mind-boggling .293.
