Mets 2024 Season

Sounds like this is dragging along, but whatever. It isn’t stopping us from signing anyone else.

I think Steve is grinding Boras and Boras has no real recourse. His guy is tainted and no one else is throwing him a ton of money. Boras being a hedge fund manager wants his risk hedged. I think he gets it or he walks.
Agree Man and I think Cohen wins this and we still get him

What happens now when the Twins view the same info that caused the Giants and Mets to pause on completing their deals with him?
Boras goes to Plan D: Package Correa and Conforto back to the Mets for some Shake Shack vouchers.

He is going back to Twins where he played and they know about his physical condition.

The Mets are still short a bat. I keep hearing about Baty and Alvarez but neither is even assured of making the team out of ST. The need is and has always been a right handed DH complement to Voglebach. I still would argue the Voglebach signing is poor roster construction. He cannot play ANY position. He cannot hit LHP. However, he is what they chose. Ok great. Ruf is a bust. So why haven’t they filled that hole? Alvarez could do it but they want him working on his defense. He might be in AAA. Does Baty start at 3rd and Escobar DH? Not ideal.

I agree. I feel like we could use a right handed hitting outfielder who could platoon with Vogelbach so we can get rid of Ruf. We could always get rid of Vogelbach later on if he isn't hitting and as he has no position. We certainly have the money now to sign one of the few guys available hopefully for a one year deal to help fill that need. They won't be superstars but hopefully they won't be Darin Ruf either. We also need another reliable reliever to help keep our rotation fresh. As for our prospects we have to see how they do in Spring Training but we need to find playing time as keeping them in the minor leagues can't be a long term option.

Spot on, Andrew. I laughed when the signed Correa. I thought it was overkill but amazing because it gave them so many options and apparently SOLVED the ongoing DH bat problem.

OK it didn’t happen. Here’s the problem, the “problem“ is back. The move that didn’t happen is very telling. Sure sounds like they want to bring Alvarez along slower than they were showing last season. If not why is Narvaez here? Very doubtful that Alvarez is the DH this season. What about Baty? Not exactly a ringing endorsement of him because Correa would have all but eliminated him from his primary position. He also is not useful as a DH candidate as he is a left handed bat. So we are back to Voglebach already there.

We don’t need an All Star but running back the 2022 offense is not a WS winning plan. That is an awful risky approach given the age of our rotation.

Let's hope the Mets don't have a fantasy football league.
Here’s my Tommy Pham story. A few years ago he was playing CF for the Padres. I’m sitting out by the HR Apple with my son. Cold night. Some teenagers in between innings are screaming for Pham to throw them a ball. Now I am sure (probably) someone must have said something. I don’t think it was the kid asking for the ball.

However, Pham makes a motion like he’s going to throw the kid the ball. He proceeds to deliberately throw the ball off the wall and starts to laugh. He retrieves the ball and once again fakes throwing it over his head. Then proceeds to throw the ball into the bullpen Coach. It was a bit of a jerk move. Hey, it happens but I am not a fan of the guy. I saw it first hand and thought it unprofessional.

They said he can earn $2 million in incentives. I am hoping that slapping someone voids those.

dick move

I am surprised he came so cheap. The economics of baseball is crazy. Good job locking him up at that value. Alonso will be harder but should be next. Don't wait two more years and still need to give him a ten year deal. Do it now and save the back end.

Look, I'm glad we signed him and it's a friendly contract, but I'm also shocked it was so low.
Nimmo gets $162M.
McNeill gets $50M.
Bizarre.
