Ah yes the Jared Porter era was almost as long as the Carlos Beltran era.
Mets still have tons of money coming off the books in the next few years. They lost ZERO draft picks because they signed no players who have been tendered. In fact they gained picks from DeGrom and Bassitt who were tendered by the Mets. Trying to win now, while keeping the future open. I like it.
When I heard the size of the deal, I had 2 thoughts. (1) would this cause Lindor to get his nose out of joint beacuse his riend was making more but on looking back I saw that they are paying more per year over his 10 year contract so there should be no jealousy. (2) What are they going to have to pay Pete. He made $7.4 million and opted out of arbitration. He is still "under Mets control" for 2 more years and the free agency. Any thoughts in locking him up for 10 years now??? might be able to do $300 to $330 million now.

I wonder what we will do with the young kids. We have now blocked SS and 3rd for a decade. I’m really intrigued by Ronny Mauricio. I think they start getting these kids experiences in the outfield. I hope we don’t trade too many of them away and keep the flexibility we have in the organisation.
Gman, their is already some talk of Baty playing some left field. He did play a couple of games at Syracuse there.
Mauricio is a bit of an odd duck. His on base percentage is below .300. His pitch selection is not good…so far. Very free swinger. However, he is growing into his body and the power is coming. The Mets seem to value him more than other teams or so it seems. He’s another OF candidate because of his size.
Good problems to have though.
Mike, you could be right, but that is the Wilpon influenza sneaking in. Two days ago I was laughing at my son who thought Correa was going to be a Met.
Remember, the Mets will soon have serious money coming off the books. This is the final year for Canha and Escobar. Scherzer is likely to opt out after THIS season. Verlander is a two year deal. Those two alone is $80M.
Bigger question is what will they do about future pitching. Shohei Ohtani anyone? One thing is certain this team will look very different in 3 years.

I’ve been saying for weeks now Ohtani is Cohen’s end game. Y’all just ain’t hearing me. I think that’s the biggest reason we didn’t resign deGrom.
Sounds like this is dragging along, but whatever. It isn’t stopping us from signing anyone else.
I think Steve is grinding Boras and Boras has no real recourse. His guy is tainted and no one else is throwing him a ton of money. Boras being a hedge fund manager wants his risk hedged. I think he gets it or he walks.
