Mets 2024 Season

I’ve never seen a prospect disrespected to the level Vientos was. If Mauricio never got hurt and/or Baty didn’t play like trash? He’s still be in AAA.
Vientos had his opportunities before Baty, and didn't dazzle anyone. You never quite know who can play at MLB level till they start performing. Lots of .300 hitters in the minors don't put up numbers at the next level. Right now Vientos is proving himself but with 164 at bats .287 can become .237 in no time.

I see your point but let's just root for Vientos to have a great second half.

Lindor has been so awesome lately. Another great game for him. Mets just need the pen to get 6 more outs to close this one out
Our fans were so hard on him early too. The guy always produces. He's .260 30 homer 100 RBI 100 run shortstop that plays near gold glove caliber defense and is a plus runner. It'd be nice if he was a .300 hitter, but that's just who he is.

The MLB collective average is like .243 now, and I don't think a lot of longtime fans have recalibrated their mindsets to match the new batting averages of the modern game. In just 2006, the league average was .269 -- and that was with pitchers hitting every game in the NL and in away interleague games or the AL.

Vientos was called up almost a month after Baty in 2022 -- and after Baty had a season-ending injury. Baty jumped over Vientos and almost completely skipped AAA (played just 6 games there) after a brief stint in AA. Vientos had over 100 AAA games and twice as many AA games at that point.

I think that decision very likely hurt Baty's development and that he Mets front office would readily admit they mismanaged that. The general consensus is that you want to get prospects a minimum of 40-50 AAA games unless they are an unusual talent.

Really fun turnaround but this team needs a 4-5 run lead MINIMUM every night when things are turned over to the pen. With the exception of Nunez and Diaz every single one of them is allowing a crooked number 100% of the time. It’s a dire situation, hoping this guy from Tampa helps and they can nab 1 more arm prior to the deadline.

Big inning and the Mets lead 5-2, but bullpen time should be coming shortly

So Mendoza again shows he has NO feel for the game, NONE. Six shutout innings for Peterson, Maton one, throwing 10, count ‘em, TEN, but let’s take him out searching for someone who can keep up the Mets bullpen implosions. So bring in Young, he keeps throwing a slider he can’t control, hits a batter, gives up a base hit, walks a batter, sandwiched around two outs. So bases loaded and changing pitchers, just terrible, formulaic managing.
But they do get the 3rd out……:ROFLMAO:

Feels like most of if not all of baseball predetermines pitching changes in pregame strategy meetings and just follow the formula as you say.

Somehow the bullpen made a 7-0 shutout an uncomfortable game. It’s amazing.

Multiple HBP, 5 walks, multiple WPs that counted and that doesn’t include 2 balls that hit the backstop and bounced back so fast the runners couldn’t advance. The offense deserves so much better but how can I bitch about a SO!

Shut out was the first of the year---second worst in Mets history AFTER 92 games; at this rate may be the only one of the year.
