Mets 2024 Season

Scott Boras-dum de dum dum for negotiations with the Mets.
Nimmo did the same thing and switched to Boras. They worked out a deal.

On the other hand, Mets need Alonso. I don’t see a clear answer to replace his production. Mets talk about contending in 2025 would take a major step back. That will be a tough sell. I don’t think Ohtani is coming here either.

Unless it was an agreed upon resignation, I don’t understand Eppler’s play here. He ain’t getting another job in this sport handling a roster with his resume. Good freakin riddance.

Eppler did a poor job, considering the immense resources he had at his disposal. His inability to get a real DH was absolute malpractice, and letting Tijuan Walker, Seth Lugo, and Chris Bassitt all walk away made no sense. He laid an egg at the trade deadline last year. Then this year he waited WAY too long to bring up the kids - long after the season went in the dumpster.

Just an absolutely terrible hire in the first place and one of the worst GMs in the organization’s history. At least he traded none of the kids. I really thought he was gonna trade Alvarez at one point.

Gonna add, I don’t even give him much credit for the Scherzer and Verlander trades. If Cohen doesn’t pony up the money, those trades would’ve never happened.

Nimmo was a bad deal. I suspect the new president would love to get out from under that contract, but I doubt there will be any takers.

I have to disagree with you there. Nimmo was a 4.7WAR player. Consistently in the top 10 in OPS+. He also was about 600 ABs the last two seasons. Nimmo seems part of the solution and not the problem.

I assume you don’t like the length? (8 years)

He earned his contract this season.

It's definitely the life of the contract that makes it questionable.

But then again, Uncle has shown he can absorb bad salaries for the sake of the roster.

His contract comes out to $20 mill per year. By the end of it, I'm sure that $ will be way less than what the qualifying offer is (currently its $19 mill). I think its a fine deal, assuming he moves to left field for the last couple of years. With Cohen, his $20 mill won't restrict us in any way. It'll be a drop in the bucket.
