Mets 2024 Season

And they are bringing in a new President of Baseball Ops, and he needs to have a clean slate.
That is all it is about, it was pretty obvious Stearns was coming here and he should be able to hire “his guy.” Buck did a great job last year but the Mets bottomed out in September and that carried over into the wild card series.
This year was a disaster and Buck was part of it, certainly not his fault but he was just as certainly a part of it.
But when all is said and done, IMO Eppler was a holding pattern exec and Buck just collateral damage to the “decided upon when Cohen bought the team” future plans. This was always going to be Stearns’ organization.

I like Buck a lot, but he probably wasn’t going to fit in with the analytics-heavy approach they will be employing going forward.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go to a 6 man rotation next year if they land one or both of the Japanese pitchers. Pitchers only start once a week in Japan and Senga, Megill, Peterson, and Quintana all have better #s on 5+ days of rest. I wish we had 5 Sengas, so sign me up for every Japanese pitcher available.

Of course the Mets win both yesterday to secure a 7th place finish in the lottery when only the top 6 picks are protected. If I’m understating it correctly, the Mets will have about a 40% chance of getting a top 6 pick and a 5.5% chance of getting the top pick.

This won’t be popular. And I’ll give full context. Last year when Chile Davis or whoever was the hitting coach got fired Alonso absolutely didnt speak to his successor. My brain is friehd I’m not gonna look up the text. But again to be fair Traczoks son Who lives in Cali was at a bar this year and a guy taps him on his shoulder and says “ thanks for wearing my jersey “ Pete F’ing Alonso what’s the point of this story ? I forget but we always suck and I liked Buck

I blame the World Baseball Classic.
No WBC, no Diaz injury
Leaves Roberson for the 8th Ottavino for the 7th.
We don’t get totaled in June like we did.

1986 gets further away in the rear view mirror.

I hope Acuna’s brother gives us 75% on Ronald’s productivity

I don’t think this is really about Buck. This seems more about the incoming Stearns being able to bring in his own Manager. Good or Bad the “Stearns era” starts today.

As a Mets fan I’ll pray for the best but like Charley Brown I might have the ball pulled away by Lucy. 😖

as my parents aunts and uncles used to say as long standing Brooklyn Dodger fans--"Wait Till Next year"; now if only Next Year would come😞😞

Yeah, Stearns said he wants a manager he can work closely with. To me that means he’s going to have an analytics team make all the big decisions.

I don’t understand why Eppler is still around. Cohen has a soft spot for him.

Eppler’s job now is a high end record keeper. Not much to worry about now. He will gather the information for Stearns is looking for.

If Eppler was going to get fired, it was during the past couple of years where he was making personnel decisions.

P
What an absolute 180 he was from last year to this year. He shouldn’t have been in the roster the second half of the season. That cost the young guys a ton of at bats.
Voglebach should NEVER been re-signed after the 2022 season. He is a DH who can’t hit. I don’t care about his walk rate. He was here to produce RUNS. He didn’t. Many here pointed out that he was a base clogging, zero dimensional player who could play NO positions. He gave us no versatility. This is POOR roster construction at its finest. Eppler should be held to account. No explanation as to why this guy was kept around.

Worst part? The Mets have to decide if they want to bring the slug Voglebach back! How is this even a question?
