Mets 2024 Season

I really hope the Mets go after the Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He's won the Cy Young two consecutive years while winning the pitching triple crown both years -- and on track to do so again this year. He profiles to be better than Senga and best pitching prospect in Japan in awhile.

Perhaps most importantly, he's 24 years old. He fits with the new timeline, won't have as much pressure next year, and is a signing that won't hurt us with losing any draft compensation (i.e. won't have a qualifying offer).

There's also a Korean teenager who's bypassing the KBO league for MLB. He throws 97 mph. He's another kid I'd like to use our money on. Get him in our minor league system. We should be using our money advantage for investments like this.

After those two guys, I don't want the Mets going after anyone with a qualifying offer + long-term commitments. Roll the dice with some veterans and let's hope the young guys outperform expectations.
I have a friend in my Mets chat text exactly this. I really like the idea.

Eppler said last night they'll look in free agency for OF, SP and RP. You have to wonder what Vientos & Maurico's future on the team is if they're looking for OF help, instead of giving one or both of them a chance.

Either way, Jung-Hoo Lee is another international guy to be posted this winter. He's 24. Not doing as good this year as he did last year, but he's another guy I'd be willing to roll the dice on; https://www.mlb.com/news/jung-hoo-lee-next-korean-superstar-mlb

This is the 17 year old Korean kid I was talking about. This has to be the Mets wheelhouse with Cohen. Especially since there's no international free agent signing limit involved here. He's nasty.

Per Baseball America:

Of the prospects traded between 2010-17, 25.5%—or just over 1 in 4—went on to have big league careers.

FWIW BA ranks the prospects traded this year Acuna (2), Gilbert (4), Clifford (7)

Vientos has been treated like garbage. Having him blocked by guys like Ruf, Vogelbach, and Canha has been tough to watch. He needs to play almost every day from here on out so we know what we have. Get Mauricio up in a few weeks as well.

Plus no state income tax in Texas so their take home pay increases dramatically
I’m pretty sure professional athletes have to allocate where they earn their living.
so athletes in Texas Who play 50% of their games in Texas & 50% in 15 Other states
have to file non-resident returns & pay tax in each of those states if they have an income tax.

NYS athletes get it bad too. They also have to file in each state, pay the other state’s tax,
they get a credit for the tax paid to each other state, but the net sum of all state taxes will
never be less then the tax if 100% earned in NYS.
Yankee,Mets, Rangers Knicks, nets etc players also pay NYC tax ONLY if they live in NYC.
NYC eliminated the non-resident personal income tax over 20 years ago.
So these players living in Long Island , Westchester or NJ Don’t pay NYC tax ( nor visiting players)

I assume heavily skewed towards top 1-10 in an organization

The winner here is ownership.

When things fall apart, Steve doesn't play it both ways. No one foot in, one foot out. No false hope. No ya gotta believe.

He knows a loser when he sees one.

And he's quick to blow it up and EAT mega contracts to restock the farm system and go back to redraw a winner.

Next is the front office.

Time for Mets to discount all ticket prices at Citi so they are comparable to minor league ticket prices. Maybe have 50 cent hot dog nights and $1 beer nights. Losing 3 in a row to 32 win (now 35 win) Royals may just be the bottom of the barrel or the beginning of even worse outcomes.

"Turn out the lights, the party's over!" (kudos to Dandy Don Meridith)

$1 beer nights we know who Brook Red is friends with here

Clifford was 2-3 with a homer and two walks in Mets farm system debut for Brooklyn yesterday.

It’s kind of crazy how fast this kid is moving through the pro ranks. If he keeps this up, Mets brass should get him 2-3 weeks in AA once the MLB rosters are expanded and promotion dominos follow.

Brooklyn has a nice 1-5 in the lineup now with Jett Williams leading off, Ramirez, Clifford, Consuegra finally healthy, and Jacob Reimer— who I like long term.

Good call on Reimer. Hope we can develop him.

We have a damn good shot to finish in the bottom 6 and not get out 10 spot penalty for the payroll.

After next July’s draft we have a chance to have a Top 5 farm team. I guess that’s one of the goals but not sure what that means. It’s a good thing I guess but… some of these kids are 2,3,4 years off. How long can Cohen wait on fielding a better ML team? Can he wait? Let’s say Juan Soto is moved by the Padres (or a similar player). Would they let that pass? Will the fans and ownership stay patient? I wonder.

I think Steve's playbook for Mets success is having a robust farm system to merge homegrown talent with big (but short-term) FA contracts that you can and are willing to unload if things go south.

Time to DUMP VogelBAD. He is useless. 4 strikeouts last night including 2 against a guy who walked 7 in 5 innings. He can't run the bases and is easiest guy to double up in baseball.
bring up one of the kids from Syracuse and see what they can do with a bat for future (which VogelBAD isn't).
