Mets 2024 Season

Guinness why don’t you like the catcher part of the trade? This kid is at least 3-4 years away. If ever. However, if he’s good and you have other catchers they can always trade from strength?

I agree on Eppler. I don’t trust him. He had lots of assets with the Angels and left a mess. Two superstars and little else. Hopefully, they bring someone like David Stearns if not Stearns himself. We’ll see.
I mean, we have Alvarez. We just drafted another catcher in the 1st round 2 years ago. I would like to see this organization stockpile some pitching. I really don’t like inter-division trades. I know Robertson is only pitching there for a few months and then he’s a free agent, but…I would have liked to see them go into the weekend and see how desperate some teams will get.

I know I’ve said this a million times now but how did Eppler even get this job? His track record was mediocre at best, definitely dubious. You have Otahni and Trout and you’re still a non-playoff team? Oh yeah, sign that guy!

Yeah, I’ve heard other people say they should have waited to the end to deal Robertson. That’s fair. I don’t know if they like the prospects and I’ve read some promising things then I can also see not waiting. The position to me doesn’t matter because I view these kids as assets either as players for you or trade bait 2024 and beyond. I mean these guys aren’t projected for at least 3 years if not longer. Or maybe Alvarez gets run over by a bus, heaven forbid.

I agree with you in the pitching. I do think they had a pitching heavy draft in July. Most have been signed. Draft picks take time and luck so we shall see.

Unfortunately, for those of us who grew up rooting for both players and teams, the way of the world in sports now. Here today, gone tomorrow. No blame attached, just the way it is.
And certainly not associated with Scherzer, he was obviously here for only a short time; me, I have never gotten over the Mets trading Seaver.

The Mets actually compounded that error into something even worse when they allowed Seaver to leave the second time.

The Seaver rejoined the Mets on a one year deal for the 1983 and pitched well. I remember the excitement of him pitching opening day at Shea. It made the cover of Sports Illustrated “You Can Go Home Again”.

Part of Frank Cashen’s reason for not resigning Seaver after that season was he didn’t want an older Seaver taking a spot from one of the younger pitchers coming up (maybe Gooden).

More to it of course, as Seaver was such a huge personality, Cashen did not want him to run the clubhouse with a young team and a rookie manager, Davey Johnson.

Seaver goes to Chicago and wins his 300th career game as a member of the White Sox against the Yankees in NY.

While the Mets turned the corner in 1984 and began winning, there still should have been a way to keep Seaver and have him finish his career as a Met and win his 300th with them.

This kid Acuna that we got for Scherzer is now ranked No. 2 in our system.

So it begs the question: is he that good or is our system that bad?

His brother‘s stats:
.333/24/61

so hopefully it’s the former but it could also be the latter (especially given almost all of our top guys are in Queens now)

Considering the money Cohen eats on Scherzer contract means nothing to him at least it seems like we got a very good prospect he was top 3 in rangers system

We just graduated Baty and Alvarez or he would be safely behind both. Plus Pete Crow-Armstrong is ranked #7 overall prospect and we traded him for a Baez two-month rental. Matt Allen would be ranked higher than Acuna as well if he didn’t get Tommy John.

I think Acuna is a very worthy top 100 prospect. I don’t know if I’d rank him above Jett Williams, who I’ve been very impressed with seeing live, or Mauricio. They are all kind of in that same bucket.

We need to move Jett Williams or Acuna to full time center immediately. SS is blocked for almost a decade and we have the worst OF prospects in baseball with a dozen middle infield prospects at the top of our organizational rankings.

I think one of those two guys will be going to 2B. Jett just got promoted to Brooklyn, so hopefully we see him change there soon so we aren't teaching new positions in AAA (e.g. Maurico).

I wouldn't discount Alex Ramirez yet. Certainly stats-wise a disappointing A+ campaign, but still only 20 and 2+ years younger than the competition.

Agree

Mauricio should be a corner OF from here on out

The Deuce you say
Michael Jeffrey is for Michael Jordan when talking heads like Mike Wilbon would refer to him as Michael Jeffrey Jordan. My friends and I took to referring to anyone named Michael as Michael Jeffrey ... whatever. Example: Michael Jeffrey Maher. :ROFLMAO:

a lot of chatter re Verlander going on. Personally, I'd like to see him stay as he has come back well from early injury and believe he was better than Mad Max. He is a real professional who aged like a fine wine and has excellent choice when it comes to a wife.

I am extremely disappointed in Ramirez. He's actually having a worse season in A+ ball than he had last year in a lot of ways. He's hitting for absolutely no power...he has the same amount of extra base hits this year in 33 more games than last year. I really thought he had a chance to be in AAA by the end of this season. He's shaping up into more of a 4th or 5th outfielder, but he'll only be 21 in January so there is time.

I'd move Jett immediately to center. He has played 14 games there with no errors. The kid can really run too. His glove at short hasn't been great either. It seems like a no-brainer. Acuna has over 100 games at second base in his career (because the Rangers were responsible with his development) so I'm fine with letting him get reps at second and short.
