Mets 2024 Season

Verlander goes to the Astros for their No. 1 prospect: OF Drew Gilbert and their No. 4 OF Ryan Clifford.

Quite the haul over the last week or so...
My son played regularly against Ryan Clifford growing up. Big strong kid Lefthanded power has advanced quickly through Astros system just turned 20 has been in high A since May. Strikes out alot but good LH power

Clifford seems to have a higher ceiling than the #36 overall prospect, Drew Gilbert, we received in that trade. Not a bad duo…one kid with a really high floor and another with a very high ceiling.

Ehhh not impressed. I'm going to lead the march on eppler's house in garden city ( walking distance from Novita )

Sign Ohtani and the Japanse pitcher who is supposedly the best pitcher in Japan the last 2 years

Uncle Steve has made so much money this year I'm not allowed to publish but just google it but I want results and I dont want Buck fired. But for the life of me and I'd like to think I'm a student of the game ( well at least pitching ) I just cant understand what I watch at the plate. Last year it was literally beautiful watching them work the count but this year it's f'ing butt ugly

So you’re flipping their rankings. New nickname for you … Mr. Unconventional 😉😊
5’9 and not a ton of power or speed so he’s not going to be putting up crazy stats. Very safe floor though as he seems to do everything good.

Clifford might be the kind of player that hits 30-35 homers. We need more of those kids.

Jett Williams 1-1 with two walks and a steal hitting lead off in his Cyclones debut tonight.

My Mets text chat had several death threats to Eppler today.

Has anyone in any position in any sport ever consistently done less with more money than Eppler?

Oh Well--another "Wait until Next Year".
The funny thing is, outside of Alvarez, Robertson and Pham, there is not a Met that performed anywhere near expectations, proving once again that once you walk inside those lines the size of your paycheck means absolutely squat.
And lose tonight by giving up 3 in the bottom of the 10th after getting 2 in the top of the inning; the winning run scoring on a balk by a relief pitcher just brought into the game; balked before he ever threw a pitch. Comical……..

Not quite sure how to feel after last night. We helped a crummy minor league system. It felt like a very expensive way to do it, but it’s not my money. I think the lack of arms means we will be after college arms early in next years draft.

I’m sure we will fill some holes in FA next year, but sucks feeling that the best case scenario is .500

I think Cohen learned that buying a team is harder than it seems.

This season was going nowhere.
April and May were mediocre. June was awful.
This pivot was decisive and clear.
Get the bad assets off the books.
Unload the expiring contracts, the older players who won't help next year.
Actually get something back in return.
Keep the core and move on.

Cohen tried to do both, win now and develop a strong minor league system; obviously didn’t work. The pivot of the Met team from last year to this was very tough to watch, completely 180 degree change in approach at the plate by the whole team, lousy pitching on both sides of the game. Gambled big time on Scherzer and Verlander and neither panned out. I do admire Cohen for quickly moving on from what didn’t work, now we shall wait and see……….in some ways I am surprised they were as close to .500 as they were because it was just a lousy baseball team.
For me Alvarez is the one and only bright spot from 2023 going forward.

I would not be that pessimistic about next year. This was a complete team failure. Hard to think it will be the same next year. Not saying they win 100 games, but they won’t be anywhere near this bad. It is not a stretch to think they reach close to their mean next year.

Cohen ate a lot of money and replenished the farm in the A to AA levels with some good prospects with the recent trades (and yes, they are just prospects, so we will see).

Also, Cohen has reset payroll and I do not think will not simply punt next season.

I really hope the Mets go after the Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He's won the Cy Young two consecutive years while winning the pitching triple crown both years -- and on track to do so again this year. He profiles to be better than Senga and best pitching prospect in Japan in awhile.

Perhaps most importantly, he's 24 years old. He fits with the new timeline, won't have as much pressure next year, and is a signing that won't hurt us with losing any draft compensation (i.e. won't have a qualifying offer).

There's also a Korean teenager who's bypassing the KBO league for MLB. He throws 97 mph. He's another kid I'd like to use our money on. Get him in our minor league system. We should be using our money advantage for investments like this.

After those two guys, I don't want the Mets going after anyone with a qualifying offer + long-term commitments. Roll the dice with some veterans and let's hope the young guys outperform expectations.

Next year ain’t gonna be any better probably worse. Mets admit they are gearing up for ‘25 and ‘26 and we know there’s no guarantee they’ll be good by then either.
I am hoping that was said to get Max to agree to a trade. Our farm system is better, but it’s certainly not great. It’s not like the Braves had 5 years ago when everyone in baseball was worried. We don’t have megastars worth waiting for or overwhelming depth. There isn’t one kid ranked in the top 35.

We fixed the outfield a good deal, but we have some of the worst pitching prospects in baseball.

Nimmo-McNeil-Lindor-Alonso-Marte-Baty-Alvarez-Vientos-Mauricio-Acuña-Gilbert is not bad start on offense if we could add some solid pitching.

Also, what’s the point of having Vogelbach on the roster now? He’s just blocking a chance to get our young guys consistent playing time on a team that has thrown in the towel.
