Senga tooPete is the Mets representative to the all star game so he can yell LFGM!
The kid the Mets “redrafted” is a Florida pitcher named Brandon Sproat. Last year the Mets drafted him with a 3rd round pick. He didn’t sign. This year they used a 2nd round pick. I know if a #1 pick doesn’t sign you get another #1 the following year. I don’t think that applies for a 3rd rounder. Only the Mets would use a 3rd and a 2nd to draft ONE player. Also two interesting draft picks. We nabbed the #12 prospect with the 32nd pick and redrafted out 3r round pick last year in the 2nd. The HS kid sounds like an athlete and likely will change position if Lindor is still around.
We also own 5 of the next 70 picks.
My guess is he signs under slot since he didn’t have a great year and that means that can pay the 1st round kid over slot money or save some for the next 5 picks and try to nab another kid that falls in signability concernsThe kid the Mets “redrafted” is a Florida pitcher named Brandon Sproat. Interestingly I believe the Mets had to ask Sproat if he would accept being drafted again by the Mets. Sounds like he will sign. This is his 3rd time drafted Texas 1x and Mets 2x. They must like him. Apparently he has good “stuff” but his results have fluctuated.
Many of the best athletes play shortstop. They often get moved. Except for Mauricio for too long. This draft is going very heavy on pitching and SS. 8 of 11 are pitchers. The other 3 are SS.
I certainly don’t know anything about the players (other than what Jim Callis or some other expert tells me) but this team does need young pitching so you can’t argue with that approach. No idea if they are the “right” guys. We’ll know in about 4-5 years.
Always interests me that college baseball just does not get the attention of college football and not even college basketball level.
Also look out for Nick Lorusso in the 9th round. He is almost 23 but he can hit. Many of the best athletes play shortstop. They often get moved. Except for Mauricio for too long.
Yeah, I agree. A couple of the guys they already mentioned may end up at a different position. Many of the best athletes play shortstop. They often get moved. Except for Mauricio for too long.
I believe he had 100 rbi season. Read that he projects as a corner. You never know how a guy will do. The mystery of baseball projection. Also look out for Nick Lorusso in the 9th round. He is almost 23 but he can hit.
Almost all the the best prospects plays SS CF and/or pitcher early. The Mets have done a poor job moving guys to other positions IMO.Many of the best athletes play shortstop. They often get moved. Except for Mauricio for too long.
In fairness they did work out a walk over those 27 outs!!Brandon lead off the bottom of the first with a double. The Mets then made 27 outs without getting a hit… awesome! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, and since the game was on Apple TV almost nobody did.
Cue Michael Ray…
…AND it was right out of the AS break! Really busting out of the 2nd half gate. Same old same old. Pathetic.Brandon lead off the bottom of the first with a double.
